superman 2 richard donner cut dvd finally happening ?

might be just a hopeful fan kickstarting a rumour. I don't really have any problems with superman 2, although more brando as Jor-el would be good...
from the digital bits....

Also today, there are online reports from various Superman-themed websites (including Superman Cinema) that Warner Bros. and producer Ilya Salkind have finally negotiated a deal for the release of director Richard Donner's original unused footage from Superman II. This would allow for the creation of a long-awaited Superman II: Director's Cut that would be closer to the film Donner was crafting before the film was taken away from him by the studio back in 1979 and given to replacement director Richard Lester. Donner, as many of you know, also directed the original Superman: The Movie (the two films were shot, for the most part, simultaneously). The idea behind all of this, of course, is that Warner wants to release new DVD special editions of Superman II, Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace in conjunction with the theatrical or DVD debut of Bryan Singer's currently in production Superman Returns. The new film is expected to hit theaters in June 2006.

We've got our sources checking on both of these stories, and we'll let you know when we're able to confirm them.

Stay tuned...

Do we really need special editions of III and IV? Ew.

That said, Superman II is still one of the all-time great superhero films, and it would be great to see something closer to what Donner had in mind. There are parts of the film that just don't really work, and after listening to Donner's Superman commentary, I'd really like to see his version.

I'm all for seeing this version make it to DVD, as long as it doesn't cut out any of Superman's diner-related shenanigans.

They can burn the negative of Superman III for all care, but if we must endure a SE so be it.

Unless they can delete Richard Pryor and that stupid fucking gag of the stop lights fighting each other, you can't polish a turd.

Superman II has some cool stuff we have never seen. I would like to see the scene of Zod using a machine gun on the people in the White House. The Jor-El stuff has always been a curiosity.

I wonder how this'll affect Singer using the excised Jor-El footage in SUPERMAN RETURNS.

I assume that was the reason Warners moved to acquire the footage in the first place. A Superman II SE would be a lucky byproduct.
