My pants have been nearly burning off with the need to get this news out to all y'all.
I posted it in another thread, but I'm not sure anyone will read it. I hope I'm not stepping on any message board moderators' toes. If it turns out I shouldn't have posted this here, I apologize. The elaborately-tiered rabbit's warren that is the Chud message boards is well beyond my ability to navigate without adult supervision, so I never really know when it's okay to start a new thread as opposed to posting in an old one and hoping people will read it. Anyway....
I live in Seattle, where I had the good fortune of catching a midnight (give or take a few minutes) screening tonight (September 29, or 30th, technically speaking) of the first Evil Dead, introduced by Bruce Campbell himself. He was affable and quick-witted as he always seems to be during public appearances. You can really tell that his fans are important to him.
In any event, amongst the many questions posited (some very immature, and more just like insults) was the ETA for The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.
He said it should be released in the spring, which is indeed good news for me, as that is my favorite Bruce Campbell work. He also mentioned the upcoming film where he will basically play himself, and that it will be filming in Oregon, which must be pretty nice for him.
He had nice things to say about Ossie Davis, panned Batman Begins quite thoroughly (at which point you could definitely feel this sudden stillness in the always-vocal audience, as though their collective fan-person loyalties were threatening to collapse into an irremediable schizm). So there's more justification for you there Mr. Faraci, as though you needed it. He also talked about being uniformly loathed by the Xena fandom (this was actually at a Q and A earlier in the day at Seattle's best video store, Scarecrow Video, where he signed for g(you can imagine I capitalized this, if you like)od knows how long, whereas I rented volume 4 of the new Doctor Who show and went home.
I don't get why Xena fans would dislike him, but he didn't really go into it that much.
The Q and A wrapped with an audience member getting Mr. Campbell to prank-call one of her friends who wasn't in attendance on her cell-phone. The prank, which Campbell did really well, culminated with Mr. Campbell ad-libbing, "Tell Billy that if he ever wants to see Laura again, it's going to cost him." What a really fun night.
