The Warriors: Ultimate Director's Cut

I searched around on the forums for something on The Warriors and didn't find anything, so I was wondering if anybody's heard much about this new release(what's on it, how the cut's different, etc.)? I loved the movie when I was a young'n so I'm excited about the new DVD. I'll cop it regardless, just 'cause I don't have my own copy of the movie. Curious if it's worth full price, though.

I'm on the fence about grabbing this one. I've seen it in the ads for $13 which is pretty cheap. I know there isn't a Walter Hill commentary because he doesn't believe in them, but there is supposed to be an introduction by him. As for the new cut of the film I've heard it mainly includes "comic book" style panels to introduce different sections of the film. If I'm in a store this week and it's a weak moment I might pick it up, though this might be one of those films that gets cut in half price-wise after a couple months.

Hey, look, a review by Mr. Beaks: http://collider.com/index.asp?cid=21&aid=1087

Thanks for linking that review, I was a bit worried that the comic book touches would hurt this cut. It's too bad they couldn't offer a disc with both versions but I still might get this one anyway.

I think if you hold on to the first release, it's like a jerry-rigged two disc set. Alas, the first release is in 2.0 mono, and not restored.

Great review by Beaks.

I too loved this film as a youngster. Although I never got nightmares.

Still a good fun little flick. I'll be on the lookout for this one.

I just picked this up at Best Buy for $13. The film is still as great as ever, even with the comicbook panel scenes added in - if anything they enhance both the viewing and storytelling experience.

P.S. It still sucks though seeing Ajax(James Remar - 48 Hours)getting caught by the cops. The great Walter Hill also makes mention of this in the 4 featurettes on the dvd.

It's too bad this new edition is getting panned so badly, I almost grabbed it last week but it looks like now it'll just be a rental at some point.

I was really hoping that a Hill movie was finally going to get a good DVD release. It's sad that about the only other flick of his that has some bonus material is RED HEAT, which is one of his films I've never been too fond of. The biggest travesty for me so far is the JOHNNY HANDSOME DVD, one of the worst transfers I've ever seen. I understand that it's not the type of movie that everyone will rush right out to buy but at least give me a transfer that doesn't look like the film is playing on a UHF station at 4 in the morning.

I've mainly held off on buying EXTREME PREJUDICE because I've heard the transfer is worse than the one for JOHNNY HANDSOME, it must be pretty bad indeed. I do have the TRESSPASS DVD and you're right that it at least has some bonus material. LAST MAN STANDING has next to nothing, well it does have Willis' scene from LOADED WEAPON (which is the only good part of that movie) but New Line could have done a bit more with that film. At least the picture looks real good on that disc.

I wonder why 48 HOURS hasn't gotten a better DVD yet. It's also not one of my Hill favorites, it's okay, but it would seem like a no-brainer for a special edition release.
