Your questions for George Romero

I'll be yakking with the man himself on Wednesday. If there are any pressing zombie questions you'd like me to put to him, here's the place to put them.
George do you think Hollywood's love affair with the zombie is over now? Is it back to the indies for zombie horror where it all started in the first place?

Does it ever anger you at all that people are seemingly unaware that you've made movies without flesh eating monsters, such as the underseen Bruiser from only five years ago? In other words, despite what all it has done for you, do you ever resent the zombie just a little bit?

Years ago I read that you would love to remake Tales of Hoffmann. Would that still be a project that interested you? Any other dream projects out there, anything close to fruition?

Not a question, but you can tell him how much Balmudo worships him. I guess you can ask him to sign my Land of the Dead one sheet. I'd love to tell him how I lost my job because of Land of the Dead, and it's not the skipping work thing.

Dude, seriously, what's with the glasses?
Well, I imagine there will be questions about DIAMOND DEAD and THE GIRL WHO LOVED TOM GORDON, as well as the CRAZIES remake...

Hmm...

How about what he'd do if he were asked to handle a proposed DAY OF THE DEAD remake? I'd also like to know some of his favorite filmmakers.
But seriously folks-
Are there any genres you haven't explored but would like to?
Do you feel that Horror is the most effective vehicle for social commentary in film? If so what do you think gives it an advantage over other genres?

(Did I butcher the plural of genre? I think I did. --Dont ask him that)

I'd like to know if he plans on revisiting horror in a similar vein to "Martin". I thought that his take on the vampire mythos was really interesting and I wondered if he contemplated an approach to another horror archetype.
I'd like to ask him what he thinks about the future of regional filmmaking. His films don't just have Pittsburgh locations--they're heavy with Pittsburgh casts and crew. What did this let him do that he couldn't do in Hollywood?
Land of the Dead, unlike the others, seemed to have been written with a sequel in mind to follow Dead Reckoning North. Did you think you were going to go directly into the production of a sequel after Land finished and what's the status of that now after a lukewarm reception at the box office?

Any chance for a special Edition DVD of "Knightriders" a film I have always liked and I think proves that Romero can work in generes other then Horror?
- What's up next for him? (From A Buick 8? Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon? Diamond Dead? Living Dead 5?)
- How are things coming along with The Crazies remake?
- Any original ideas for future films brewing in that wonderful brain?
- What was his original concept of The Mummy remake before exiting the project years ago?
- Any chance on working on Masters of Horror in a future season?
- What attracts him to horror more than other genres?
- What are recent horror films has he enjoyed?
- Which of his works is he most proud of? least proud of?
- Has the success of zombie films and horror in general recently made it any easier for him to get projects off the ground?

By the way Dan, you are one lucky SOB!
That's awesome, Dan. Lucky you. I just watched Monkey Shines last night. Love love love Romero. I ike Anderson's question about making more flicks in the vein of Martin, which is an underrated classic. Maybe ask him if there's a chance of another anthology flick like Creepshow, or maybe as Plisskin wrote above if he'd do a Masters of Horror segment... Have a great time!
Does it piss him off that a pretentious piece of crap movie like 28 Days Later that basically ripped most of its plot from his Day of the Dead can be so successful yet his films always seem to tank even though they're great.
Actually, only one-third of 28 Days Later was ripped off from Day.

"George, you've never directly addressed this in any of your 4 'Dead' films; there have been hints, 'scientists' and theorists talking to camera about the REASON THET THINK the dead are rising, and I don't expect a definitive answer as such in the movies themselves...but surely in the initial writing of the script, THERE WAS A REASON; be it downed satellite harboring space-virii, Haiitan voodoo taking hold of capitalist America, Paris Hilton, or just a sign of the 'End Days'?

...or does the reason change from film to film?

...or are dead-folk just 'doing their thing' enough of a reason? (They are for me)

I'm not looking to answer that question for the films themselves, but I reckon you had some sort of hook to hang this series from in your head, to get it in motion...and realised it wasn't in need of ANY explanation at all (filmically)...

I JUST WANT TO KNOW!!
(sob)..."

Until yesterday it was a one-on-one chat, but they had so many interviews lined up they switched it to a tele-conference. It's a shame, but hardly a conspiracy.

I wasn't aware that I'd said or implied anywhere that he would only be talking to us. He's promoting a DVD - I think it's clear that he'll be interviewed by a lot of people.

Good idea. I will ask Romero that.

Oh, wait a second - you've cleverly disguised a jab at me as a question for Romero. Superlative segue. Well done.

CC isn't running at full capacity yet. I'm aware of that and changing the Movie Of The Month isn't the absolute top priority. That part of the front page still needs Nick to change it, so we're working on a complete site redesign and my main focus until then is to rebuild the community and feature quality.

Dreher = Nick Beal. Interesting.

Go for it buddy! Movie of the Month isn't that important of a feature and I am glad that you guys are spending your time on more important aspects of the site. I can't wait to see what you guys do with it.

Look out for another chunk of Romero stuff to hit CHUD soon, this time with the big man talking more personally about his inspirations, his early career and his philosophy of horror.
That's the best news I've heard all day.
