Cutting out the UPC on the back of the slipcase

Who is doing this? Is it just Best Buy doing this, or is it how they're distributed now? Because it's really annoying.

i think it's the companies.

the warriors set has the slipcase barcode out too-i bought it from a non-chain, so it's just like some of the WB releases.

Shit comes like that.

Basically, it's to prevent people from putting another DVD inside the slipcase, and paying for another, hence screwing up sales for both the studio and for stores. It's more of a problem than you'd think it is, I assure you.

That does not, however, make it any less a pain in the ass.

Yeah, Best Buy isn't the one doing it, that'd be cost-prohibitive for them to make happen. But I hate it when the edge of the cutout (by the spine) gets bent/ripped up. I found 1 out of 5 copies of the recent Fly release that didn't have this problem.

But this is a minor annoyance compared to my gripes concerning things like when the cover protrudes beyond the aramay transparency only to have the paper ripped off when you remove the security stickers. And don't get me started on security magnetic strips on non-aramay packaging (The new version of Evil Dead II has it above the disc on the last page of the book and it's difficult to remove without ripping the paper). Like Nick, I like to think that more is better and I therefore hate scarring my brand new cases.

Yeah, I had the same problem with The Fly disc the other day. Warners does it okay, since the UPC is usually at the top of the package and it's not as conspicuous.
