Today, I was really enjoying a podcast I downloaded from iTunes, Alternative Hip-Hop show, cause it adds a feature I missed on my iPod (radio) but it does it on demand and free of FCC bullshit. I wanted to know which podcasts you guys enjoy, beside the CHUD one of course.

I listen to a daily current affairs show on the Autralian youth radio network Triple J. It's really interesting and they do crazy topics. This morning I was listening to the relationship between drugs and sex.

Twit--This Week in Tech

Diggnation (also a tech-related podcast)

Soccergirl, Incorporated. Strangely simple enough--a mid-20s girl from NY who has a live-in boyfriend, but they're not exclusive, and she's apparently horny most of the time. She also has pretty good musical ability as she "freestyles" a lot. She's very proud of her boobs, which there are pics on her site displaying them, and her boyfriend Ryan, when he's on, has some pretty funny stories, mostly involving the bathroom. I found it by accident, and got addicted to the show. She also is the creator of the "bathcast", which is her doing a podcast from her bathtub.

These two are great for tech geeks, which I am. Also, NEWSWEEK puts out a podcast which has a nice overview of news, and then they latch on to something specific and go a bit more in-depth. This week it was GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK, so that was cool. NPR really does need to put All Things Considered out in a podcast, other ones that would be nice (but I don't think they exist): This American Life with Ira Glass, and Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me.

I'll second the Elvis Mitchell.

I like the movies, music and news podcasts, so I'm going to check those out. The tech stuff doesn't quite get me amped as the rest. Too much technobabble.

edit: But thanks or mentioning them, I might need them as a reference in the future! Keep 'em coming....

Does anyone know where I could download older episodes of The Treatment. At the kcrw site you can only listen to the streams. Also I'm bumbing this thread, in the hopes of people having more good podcast suggestions.
Mine so far:

- spacemusic
- open source sex
- this week in technology
- pottercast
- all three of the "War of the Roses" podcasts
post #11 of 56
If you're interested in movies and entertainment industry, my recommendation is The Business.
Now I'm listening to

Cult Movies Podcast by Stomp Tokyo
Diggnation
this WEEK in TECH
The C64 Take-away podcast
retroCRUSH
KCRW's The Treatment
KCRW's The Business

If you want to hear Dan Whitehead speak, listen to retroCRUSH podcast episode 29. It's the full hour interview with George Romero, where bunch of journalists got to ask one question each.
One more recommendation. The Ricky Gervais Show. The first episode was released yesterday.
I'm listening to it now. It's pretty funny. It's essentially one guy telling stories, and Ricky and another guy making fun of all the things he says.

And a question--does anyone else listen to Soccergirl? I haven't been able to download any podcasts of her show past 10/31. Of course, my office may all of the sudden be blocking it in some way. I don't think I've tried it at home.
The Ricky Gervais Show is one of the goddamn funniest things I have ever heard. I cannot stress it enough. PLEASE get these. If you like his brand of humor, you will love it.
I actually find the Gervais podcast a bit lame. I really like his tv work but this has just been 11 episodes of him wailing on his producer, it's kind of juvenile.
Any of the documentary stuff from the ABC's Radio National from australia is pretty good, and if you can, the John Saffron/Father Bob Speaking in Tongues podcast is usually quite amusing.
I'm almost through my 2nd podcast of COVERVILLE and am digging it.

Thanks for the recommendation, Devin.
Yeah Coverville is particularly most awesome. Thanks for that one as well, Devin.
I love the Ricky Gervais show, but it got old and didn't really last the 12 episodes.

There's this great video podcast called Ministry of Unknown Science. They do really good sketch comedy on a weekly basis (think college meets Mr. Show).

From a fake promo for a television show:

"Starring Academy Award Winner Jon Voight as Academy Award Nominee, Jon Voight."

"Gene Shallit says 'I couldn't stop cumming!'"

"And a breathless Gene Siskel says 'Help! I'm still alive down here! Somebody get me out of this box! Jesus Christ, the spiders!'"

Ask a Ninja

It's for all you video iPod owner out there, though you can also watch the video within iTunes or at YouTube via the official site.

Penn Jillette podcast

This is a great podcast of daily clips of Penn Jillette's radio show.
I’m new to having an iPod so the only one I’ve found that I like is Formulapod. It’s basically Formula 1 news and opinion. I’ll have to look at the podcasts you guys have recommended.

And others, has anybody tried "cinecast"? Used to listen to that one, it's not too bad, I wonder what you guys think about it ...
The Ricky Gervais show was pretty good when it first started back late last year, but it soon started to wear thin with it essentially becoming the karl pilkington show where he would say something bizzar, and Ricky and Steven would make fun of him. It wasn't bad and at times quite funny, but I didn't get excited when a new one downloaded. And the less said about the "season 2" fiasco, the better.

I couldn't be bothered with the whole 'paying' thing, so I'm unaware of this fiasco. What happened?
The whole paying thing was it actually. They had so much support after the first season and then they decide to do more, but have you pay for them. After touting that he had the world's most listened to podcast for several weeks, when he starts charging for them, I don't think anyone really listend. As far as I know, they only released one or two episodes of that season then scrapped it in favor for the shorter and freer video podcasts.
Wait Wait Don't Tell Me is now podcasting, and it's glorious. Also, I've been listening to the Sound of Young America (www.maximumfun.org) lately, and while I'm not in love with the host, he does get great guests, and does okay interviews.

Gervais videocast?!

I love Ask a Ninja and the Strong Bad podcast

I really dug Brian Singer's Superman journal podcasts as well as Kevin Smith's Clerks 2 and Jack Black's Nacho Libre podcasts

Chud is always a fun listen.

I listen to the Official LOST podcast

The Atom Films podcast comes up with some interesting short films

Tiki Bar TV can be humerous at times

Ebert and Roper are good to listen to as well.

I am now addicted to Coverville.
Keith and the Girl: consistently funny

The Onion Radio News: with Doyle Redland!

(Cool) Shite on the Tube: blokes from AU that talk about movies. And they have plenty of insight as well.

Yacht Rock still amuses the heck out of me, though it's not as strong as it was in the beginning...

I dont ever listen to whole podcasts. I have a PSP, not an iPod, so podcasts stream for me, and once I'm out of signal range, no podcast. And I would probably listen to them in the car. Oddly enough, video podcasts are downloadable. The only one I'm watching regularily right now is G4's Daily Nut. Nice daily five minute morsels of internet goodness.

Thanks for that, check out "Gareth Jones on Speed". It's also about F1, but it's very humourous, also includes content from the sniffpetrol.com guys.
I've basically replaced tv and radio with various podcasts. I'm amazed by how diverse a group they are. The "amateur" stuff varies from commercial level quality and content to 2 drunk guys discussing weekly news stories (literally, thats a real show). There's also the traditional radio releases (pbs, cbc, bbc, etc.).

The ones I watch/listen to at the moment are:

- This Week in Science (Weekly science/tech show)
- Quirks & Quarks (a long running cbc science news program, they have something like 25 years worth of archives up)
- DVD Verdict presents... (an offshoot of dvdverdict.com, a great dvd review site).
- Ctrl+Alt+Chicken (a cooking show with hosts that can't cook)
- DL.TV (another tech show)
- Ask a Ninja (a ninja answers random questions from listeners)
- The Ricky Gervais Show (I assume everyone knows that one)
- Penn Radio ("liberal" talk show with the guy from Penn & Teller)
- Diggnation (the 2 drunk guys I mentioned above)

And I've just barely scratched the surface. Digg.com has something like 4500 podcasts listed. I'm really curious to see where this all goes and what impact, if any, it has on traditional media. Can podcasts remain free? Most shows seem to rely on pbs like donations/sponsorship, some rely on short commercials, others on merchandise (t-shirts, bumper stickers etc.) or a combination of these, is that a sustainable buisness model? I know some shows charge per episode but that isn't very common as of now. Also I think a distinction should be made between the shows that have an actual budget (in otherwords, programs that have a paid staff) and labors of love (the shows that rely solely on the enthusiasm of the participants and fans).

Any thoughts?

I've taken quite a liking to Kevin Smith's "Smodcast". Say what you will about him as a director, but the man can tell a story.

PTI isn't technically a podcast, but it it just as great in audio form (although it is a bit frustrating when they talk about how great a play or reaction was, and you can't see it.)

Mondo Movie podcast. Why, oh why did I discover this show just now. Now I have to go through all the old episodes and it's gonna take forever. My favourite film podcast now.

Monster Squad Terrorcast. I've only listened to one episode and this seems like a good show.

I definitely don't always agree with the Filmspotting guys, but much like CHUD, they exist somewhere between the art house and the grind house.

Do you guys have anymore podcast suggestions? I bought a 80GB video iPod recently, and I need stuff to listen to, to get me through work.

Previously, I've been listening to:

Lost podcasts
Josh In Japan
Keith and the Girl

I'm going to check out Diggnation, as I dont have the time to check the website much these days, and Ask A Ninja looks fun.

Anything else, not mentioned in this thread?

Savage Love.

Damn good podcast. Damn good.
If you like Diggnation and can stand uber-annoying host Alex Albrecht, you might be able to tolerate his whiny face over on The Totally Rad Show. Thankfully he has two co-hosts to distract from him. Geekscape also covers similar geek material, but is much better.

Scene Unseen Movie Reviews is another good one.
At work I popped on the Creative Screenwriting Magazine podcast, they have some great interviews with Seth Rogen, Michael Showalter, Paul Rudd, Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright, David Lynch, John Carney and Glenn Hansard [Who does a live performance with his co-star from Once]
So at the moment to get me through 8 hours a day I'm listening to:

Josh In Japan (almost nearing the end...)
Keith And The Girl
Diggnation
Japanesepod101 (very very good. Shitty itunes didnt have the archived casts, so I've been downloading them from here
Totally Rad Show (yeah, the hosts are annoying, but I download the mp3 version and still laugh along)
PRI's The World: Technology (co-produced by BBC so its automatically quality)
Self-Defense Show

Still looking for a news related podcast. Guardian and BBC are too dry, I need some laid back analysis or something.
The funniest Daily Show correspondent John Oliver has a podcast with a fellow comedian Andy Zaltzman called The Bugle. It's absolutely hilarious.
