Is there any doubt that Brokeback is the easy favorite?
Right now Brokeback looks unbeatable for BP.
Maria Bello might have a shot at best supporting actress but not best actress, the role is a little too short.
The best actor race is really competitive. It will be interesting which of the two Brokeback actors gets the nod. If both, they will probably cancel each other out, unless Brokeback gets sweep momentum, which is a real possiblity.
Best Actress will probably boil down to a duel between Reese Witherspoon and Judy Dench.

Ledger's a lock to be the BROKEBACK Best Actor nominee. Every other awards body and news outlet in the world has pegged him as the lead for such purposes, so I don't see Oscar changing that tune. And if the Best Actress race comes down to Witherspoon Vs. Dench then Reese has got it in the bag, because MRS. HENDERSON PRESENTS is no great shakes whatsoever.

You mean the best SW score since EMPIRE? I'll give Williams credit for being able to meld both new and old themes with such aplomb, and the SITH score is the most emotional of the three prequel ones, but I find myself more attached to the CLONES score outside of the film, and that's in large part due to 'Across The Stars'. But SITH's score works in the film. I just don't find it very listenable as a stand-alone. Speaking of which, I would still love to read your review of the score if and when you decide to write one.

And I'm saddened to say that the film itself is resonating with me less and less as I watch it more. I hope my feelings will change for the better as the film ages. And this is coming from someone who liked MENACE and had one of the best experiences in a theater with CLONES.

Williams' MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA is one of his best in a long, long time. Worthy of a nomination and maybe a win.

I'm working on a review of it as we speak. Expect it soon.

So, I guess we can expect to see them kiss on the MTV movie awards show? Somehow it's not quite the same.

It won't be interesting, as Focus is pushing Gyllenhaal for supporting.

The Locks:

I think Terrence Howard is a lock for Supporting Actor. There`s a buzz around this guy, and he will be recognised for the huge amount of flicks he made this year from Crash to Hustle & Flow, Four Brothers, etc...

Clooney wins for Best Director for Good Night, And Good Luck.

The Academy likes supporting young hot actresses so Reese Whiterspoon gets it for Walk the Line. Easy.

It`s between Ledger and Seymor Hoffman for Best Actor.

The 7 films that qualified for the makeup nod:

THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE

CINDERELLA MAN

A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE

THE LIBERTINE

MRS. HENDERSON PRESENTS

THE NEW WORLD

STAR WARS: EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH

Sin City? Land of the Dead? Devil's Rejects? Goblet of Fire? Kong? Brokeback Mountain?

Again, the Academy proves they don't know crap about this category.
If I am reading the rules correctly it could be that some of the movies (specifically Land of the dead and Devils rejects) you listed were not submitted to the Academy for consideration. Thought I do find it hard to believe that Sin City, Potter and Kong were not submitted.

Here are the rules:

Nominations come this week.

I would love to see William Hurt get a supporting actor nod for History of Violence, if ony for the fact that he was animated and entertaining and not in his usual stoic/stoner mode.

Mostly a really good list, although Munich is an adapted screenplay, from the book Vengeance by George Jonas

Anyone know of any sites that are streaming the nomination announcement? I'm stuck at work and can't get to a TV.

good night, and good luck getting the Best Picture nod.

Awesome.

Devin will be both overjoyed (Terrence Howard's Best Actor nom) and outraged (all the Crash love).
Seriously, they fell for "Crash"?

I gave them too much credit.
