Have the CHUD boards gone wacky? - Page 2

I like the new look, although it was a bit shocking at first.

Looking forward to getting a unique avatar. Tomorrow, maybe.

Oh... and maybe the upgrades will finally let me have mod powers!
I think the teal is fine, a nice contrast. The grey on black was always hard for me to read. Everything is actually a little easier on the eyes to me now. I especially like the fading in the green.
Revised my avatar 'cause otherwise I'd be working. Nick's right-- black background works best. Love yours, Pop.
The new look sure is spiffy. I will say I liked the yellow dot indicating a new post in that topic. The blue to green isn't enough of a contrast for me just yet. Looks good everywhere else though !!

Me likey.
here's mine, good change. cool.
By the way, I love the Quick Reply feature. It's on a couple of other boards I go to and it's just really damn convenient.
I can't find anything that will let me change my avatar. It's just defaulting to "Do not use an avatar" with no other options available.
I think the only thing I don't like is the underlined links. I dig those funky colours, though.
Anyone?

Here's what it's showing me under "Edit Avatar"

Do you not have a "Custom Avatar" panel directly beneath that one?
right below that panel you have an upload option to grab your own one.

I had the same problem when I was trying to change my avatar. It took a couple of reloads to get the upload option back.

I vote for not having overly animated avatars. They tend to be quite distracting. And I agree with Ron Vogel, the current quote text is a bit too neon.

I'm with you on the overly animated avatars. I've got a five second switch back and forth thing going with mine, if it annoys anyone let me know.

well, what about not too long signatures. keep allowing several fonts etc.

The ones with rainbow color can get a bit annoying, but with no motion to attract the eye, they're easy enough to ignore.
On most threads I cant read the entire thread, the page gets cut off about 90% of the way down, I have to click on 'quote' or reply button to see every entry. Bit annoying.

Yeah, I'm getting that as well...especially with threads of more than one page. Any ideas?

LOVE the new layout, though!

I feel ashamed to do much posting without an avatar. I know what I want, I just have to go about getting it put together.

Any moderator:

I have a problem. I can't seem to stay logged in for a long period of time. Ever since the changes took place in the forums, I haven't been able to post all the time for some odd reason. Every time I log in, a screen pops up that says I'm logged in and that's supposedly redirecting me to another screen. But then when I get to that screen, I'm no longer logged in. Even stranger, in the Active Users section, my screen name appears, even though on the top of the screen it makes no mention of me being logged in.

Advice?

Thanks!

I used to think this message board (at both the staff and the members request) intentionally didnt have an option for avatars so that every member would only be judged and noticed by their posts' content and not their pretty pictorial representation.

How wrong was I!

That probably was the reasoning, but I'd guess that by now there's enough name recognition on the boards that adding a little picture for the fun of it won't hurt things too much.

Try clearing out your browser's cookies. That might fix it.

It would be interesting to know if it was intentional or if Nick just couldnt be bothered to have the feature. When I first joined I was so used to forums with avatars it was a bit of a shock to get used to but over time I did like the look, pages loaded quicker and my eyes werent diverted by images, just words from maniacs, obsessives and jokers.

Either way, I dont really mind too much, I just need the black background! Its soothing on the eyes.

I allow avatars for a few reasons. First of all, a lot of the new posters kind of blend together because honestly... so few people have real names on here. Also, I like the board to evolve. There's no right answer. I think the new look is terrific and hope the avatars add a little vitality to the boards.
I can already see that even with avatars, Chud still distances itself from other boards with its good taste. Already a lot of cool ones, and haven't really seen any lame ones yet.

I've also noticed the quick reply is working a lot better than I've seen on other boards. It doesn't have to reload the thread after you hit reply, it just pops up on there. Coolness.

well, if the sig is ten fold longer than the actual message ...
Wow, the colours! This looks great!

Will do.

Thanks.

Oh, and the forum looks awesome. The changes are ace.

Just uploaded a Avatar but it does not seem to be showing up.

Love everything so far except when typing a reply that little blinking cursor that shows you where you are in the paragraph is now black which makes correcting my posts using the keyboard a headache.

It's white for me.
Yay for avatar! Yay for green gradients! It all takes a minute to get used to, but it's a nice change.
This is super duper, folks!

You stay classy, Chud!

I'd thought I'd never see the day you'd allow avatars on this site! Anyway, I didg them. Thanks for giving us the option.

It's white for me now as well, thanks for the adjustment Nick.

For those who know Firefox I just have a quick question to ask. I know that a lot of people like those little boxes that pop up giving you the first sentence of a topic when you move your cursor over the link to that topic. How do I get the browser to turn them off? I find them kind of annoying.

Consider me in the same boat.

I have to fix permissions for some of the access masks of people who have access to various admin parts of the board. Will hit today.

But I have to say it again, these boards look and operate like a master. I really am glad I spent Saturday being punched by it.

The new look is pretty cool. Looks like it took some work. Thanks Nick.

I still have to tool around a bit and see where some other changes pop in. Ialready noticed some differences with editing post and stuff like that.

Actually, all I had to do was to log off the boards, clear my cookies and cache, and then log back in.

That fixed it for me.

Don't make it a priority, I'm content with looking at other people's pictures for a while. (That said, I am my own avatar, as rendered by LC3)
I'm digging on the new look. I need to put my avatar in.
Actually, I keep getting logged out as well. I've logged out and cleared the cookies and logged in from several different machines, etc. No dice. If I stay logged in but inert for a few minutes, I'm chucked out.
What's weird for me is that when I'm in Firefox, I couldnt see any avatars. But when I go in Explorer, I can see avatars. Is there some specific setting I'm missing in order to see avatars in Firefox?
Shouldn't all avatars be Krull-related?
Wow. I've been gone for a few days, so the new look and feel was a surprise to me. I like it a lot. Now I just have to find an avatar.

I'm having this problem as well (e.g. Devin's Requiem, Box Office Thread). What's funny is that it only happens on my home computer which is pretty powerful., not my work computer which is a lot weaker.

Nick or any other moderators, is there anything that can be done about this?

Same here. If I surf to other sites and return here, I almost always have to sign in again.

If you keep getting logged out, try clearing out your browser's cookies. That usually fixes problems like that.
