I officially hate DVD manufacturers

Thread Starter
Two weeks ago, I bought 24: Season 1 and disc 3 was scratched all to hell.

Last week, I bought Battlestar Galactica: Season 1 and there were two disc 5's in lieu of a disc 3.

Today, I bring home my new purchase of Arrested Development: Season 2 and guess what? Two disc 1's and no disc 2.

Are these factories staffed with retarded lemurs or something? I've had problems here and there in the past, but never this frequently. It really sucks because I have to drive back across town each time to get an exchange.

I guess I'm going to have to start opening these damn things in the store before I leave.

Anyone else experiencing an increase in problems like this? Or am I just unlucky?

It's never happened to me with a DVD, but I once bought a brand-new 2-Disc Best of David Bowie CD at Best Buy that in reality included no discs. Back in the days of the original Nintendo, I once received a brand new and still shrink-wrapped box that contained no game.

So this kind of packaging error is rare, but it does occur. Sometimes quality control fails. It sounds like it just fails you a Hell of a lot more. My advice? It pays to complain. These companies are out for a profit, but most still seem to recognize that they can't just screw over their customers outright.

I've had friends tell me stories of all kinds of free crap they've gotten for complaining to places ranging from Coca-Cola to Software companies. All of these products have customer service addresse or numbers on them. Call or write and give them a piece of your mind. You're not guaranteed a refund or replacement, but it's worth a shot.

Sorry you're having to experience all that. I think it's just a string of bad luck. I've been buying a lot of discs lately, new and used, and I haven't had any major problems. I remember way back when the GODFATHER TRILOGY came out I thought I had a busted extras disc but it turned out to be something wrong with my player because it worked fine on my PS2. Hopefully the DVD Gods will take it easy on you in the future.

Bad luck. I've purchased hundreds of DVD's, and I've received one dud: I bought a Hitchcock movie that contained a blank disc.

The wretched thing is that I picked up the movie again at the same store a couple of weeks later. The shrink wrap seemed to be of less than professional calibre, so I asked to preview the disc at the store. I crack it open, and it's the same blank disc. I recognized the fingerprint I put on it the first time I bought it. A & B Sound are bastards.

I also bought a copy of Hemispheres years ago. The CD was labelled properly, but it was the wrong recording; I ended up with some album that has, among other things, a Latino version of the Mission Impossible theme. And way back in cassette days, my first copy of Tin Machine was spooled backwards or something. Side 1 was really Side 2 backwards, and Side 2 was nothing at all. Three duds in what must amount to 1000 separate purchases seems pretty good, so I thik you're just cursed.

Too bad for you.

The one problem I ever had was my FUTURAMA season 2 set had two disc threes and no disc four.

Does this happen more with TV sets?

I've never gotten doubles of discs, but my Matrix set had 3 scratched discs. They weren't loose or anything either, so it must have been a factory error.
Also, for some reason the second half of Lolita from my Kubrick set won't play. It pisses me off, but at least I've seen the film before. The disc itself is pristine. Plus I bought it used so there isn't much I can do.

I am hearing a lot of this with BSG.

The only bad one that I ever had was Spartacus: Criterion Collection.

Both discs looked normal, but when you played the second disc it was "All the Pretty Horses".

It was weird, even the people at Borders thought that it was weird.

It happened to me with one of the Babylon 5 seasons, it had 2 disc 2 and no disc 1. I just took it back and explained the problem, and it was no trouble getting another one.

I had a problem with some recent dvd's playing on my computer but not on my DVD player until I replaced the DVD player I got in 2000 with a more recent one, then no more problems with that.
But BGS is having more then it's share of problems.

I've never had a problem with duplicated or wrong discs but I have run into the problem where the little raised center spindle the DVD clamps onto was busted causing the disc to flail about inside the case (causing quite a few scratches). Originally I figured just shaking the case would warn me of that, but now with all the little included pamphlets and coupons and such you're always going to hear some rattle or another.

I remember when Episode 1 came out on VHS, I went and bought the "Deluxe Widescreen Edition" and had to return it three times because each one was a pan and scan, even though on the tape itself it said widesceen.

I also got a double CD once, I went and bought a Nirvana CD and noticed it seemed to be thicker that usual and it turns out it was two copies of the same disc stuck together.

What's really pissing me off now is how the DVDS are being packaged in multiple layers of wrap, security tape, stickers...half the time you end up warping the plastic because you pulled too hard. That or it takes you about 15 hours to open the damn thing.

Whoa... same thing happened to me.

Weird... thought I might be the only one.

It's more likely that you'd be one of many, I think. This kind of production error rarely happens to one item on an assembly line. Usually there's a whole batch that's affected if something's screwed up.

I purchased the ROTS 2-pack from Wally-mart. There was this sticker holding the 2 DVDs together. The bonus disc had no shrink wrap on it, the sticker was just stuck on the DVD case and did not peel off completly. Easy to fix, but still kind of lame.

The only time I ever had a problem was with Monsters Inc. Got it home and had 2 bonus features discs and no movie.
