Arrested Development S2: Sold Out!

Ok, so this is probably totally inconsequential anecdotal evidence, but I thought some people might be happy to hear that my local Best Buy had sold out of the new Arrested Development DVDs by 6 p.m. yesterday. The reason this is worth posting is because my Best Buy NEVER sells out of anything. For example, I walked in on the release date of Halo 2 to find 40 copies on the shelf...at the same time, the local gamestop was sold out and had a line 20 people long out the door waiting to pick up their copies. This sort of situation has happened over and over again...my Best Buy simply does not sell out of anything. They had allotted shelf space for no less than 20 copies of the show, too. I'm sure this doesn't mean that the show is tearing up the sales charts, but on a microscopic level, it's pretty encouraging.

if they only have only 3-5 copies it's not much of an accomplishment. Do you know how many they had?

Well, going by the shelf space that was tagged for the show, somewhere in the area of 20 copies (might've been 15, might've been 30). So, it's not insignificant.

Three stores in downtown Toronto were sold out by 1:00pm yesterday. i was both angry and really, really delighted.

Amazon shipped mine yesterday. Can't wait.

"I blue myself."

I really hope they have at least one in stock that I can exchange today after work. The one I bought yesterday had two Disc 1's and no Disc 2.

When I was there buying it yesterday, it looks like they had space for upwards of 40 copies.

Same experience here in Richmond, VA. I went to Target as it was the closest option I had on the way home from work, and they were sold out at 6:30 PM. I went over to the nearby Barnes and Nobles and picked up the last copy there and the clerk said someone had come in 5 minutes before me with the same story of trying to find it and having difficulty.

I too, was slightly annoyed, yet quite pleased to see that my local Best Buy had sold out by the time I was able to get there last night [around 7pm]. It appeared as if they had sold quite a bit, maybe 25+ copies-- judging by the sizable shelf space.

Hit up the Target down the street and they were sold out, as well. Looks like they had only allotted for about 5-6 copies, though.

The Wal*Mart a little further down the road did have about 5 copies in stock and it was hard to tell how many [if any] they had sold.

Not that it means much I suppose, but I'd be very curious to see how the sales stacked at the end the week. Does anyone know of a reliable source for that type of information?

Bestbuy.com isn't out of stock and I would think that would be a better judge. I hope it sells out across the country so Fox doesn't cancel the show. Bastards.

I just ordered another copy from Amazon.com to gauge their stock and it won't be ready until the 18th!!!! Surely thats a good sign! I figure this copy will be the one that goes in the time capsule. I can see it now, a millenia from now Aliens will find it and understand just how great we were, they will emulate us and do the chicken dance.

Sounds encouraging, unless its just Ron Howard travelling all over the country buying up whatever copies he can.

And I bet none of them were sold to Nielsen viewers.

In fact, I bet all these people have every season of THE KING OF QUEENS. And they couldn't wait for the DVD, so they taped all of WIFE SWAP.

AD's luck seems to run like this.

This news legitimately warms my heart.

It was the same for me, too. But not only was Best Buy sold out, but I also went to Target, Walmart, Circuit City, and two different movie stores in my local mall- and they all had nothing. I finally went to Media Play and snagged the last one. Right after I picked up my copy, a family asked the nearest employee if the had any AD S2 DVDs. I screamed "No, but I do!" as I skipped toward the checkout aisle. Come to find out, that family had been to a couple of Blockbusters, a Hollywood Video, and a Movie Trading Company and still hadn't gotten their greasy palms on it. This is all wonderful news!

What kind of prices did you guys get it for?

Preordered my copy months ago. Should arrive tomorrow.

It's not terrific news for the contigent of shoppers who simply considered buying it on impulse, but otherwise: yay.

You missed a prime moment there - you should have done the "chicken dance" as well....

"No, but I do - Caw-ca-caw! Caw-ca-caw!"

I bought my set for 24.99 and there was only two more left...

"Have any of you people ever actually seen a chicken?"

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA.

Great show. Anybody know how much it costs to produce a season of AD? I'd love to know if the DVD sales are turning a profit on the entire series. I know that happened with Family Guy, but they didn't have any actors to pay.
