Lethal Weapon - Page 3

Cool thread. Bumped in honor of the potential glorious return of Shane Black for a part 5. Here's hoping the series can be saved by a rediscovery of its roots.

For the record, as far as buddy cop movies go-I put 48 HRS. and FREEBIE & THE BEAN at the top. LW slides in at 3.

Stuart Wilson's villain was weak, yes, but I liked how it shifted the focus from Riggs to Murtaugh. The first film had such a wonderful balance of that, and LW2 really became the Riggs Wacky Shoot 'Em Up Hour. I thought the third movie did a nice job of giving them interesting things to do. Sure, Getz was shoehorned in there, and the series started to feel some of the bloat that would sink LW4 altogether, but I thought it was a lot of fun.
I love Lethal Weapon 3. Lot of folks dump on it but I thought the whole thing with Murtaugh dealing with shooting his son's friend was some of the character's best stuff emotionally. The drunken argument with Riggs on the boat was good stuff too.

It's so painful reading old posts. I feel like there should be a middle school photo affixed to all my posts that are over a year old.

The Lethal Weapon sequels still suck with reckless abandon. Fuck those movies.

It was one of the most unfortanately timed movies ever. Remember watching it a month after the riots, and being really embarassed & uncomfortable. (The jaywalker scene especially) Seeing abusive cops-even Mel & Danny- played for laughs...not funny or advisable.

The motorcycle stunt was cool.

Keith Fordyce, There are no weak Lethal Weapon films. LW and LW2 are great films...while LW3 and LW4 are near parodies of the classics. LW3 and LW4 are excellent films as well.

Die Hard 3 and Live Free And Die Hard on the other hand are far below the greatness of Die Hard and Die Hard 2: Die Harder.

Fat Elvis, Riggs and Murtaugh are not abusive cops, they are supercops with a mean spirited sense of humor...it is not the same thing at all. Also why would anyone think about a riot in real life while watching a Lethal Weapon film? It is true though...Mel Gibson is a riot in the Lethal Weapons series.

Define "excellent films".

Duke, sometimes, at least for me, its impossible to escape from reality.

I gotta side with Duke. Lethal Weapon 3 and 4 are excellent fun.

I just saw Lethal Weapon 4 again last night, and that opening sequence is still great. I dig 3 also.

Lethal Weapon 4 is an excellent sequel but Die Hard With A Vengeance isn't? Sorry. No sale.

Duke Fleed I'd like to smack the taste out of your mouth for your attack on Die Hard with a Vengeance.

You have attacked Die Hard with a vengeance....... with a vengeance.

I've got the novelization for this and its got Riggs resigning from the Force and signing up as a Self-Defense Instructor at Murtaugh's Church.

LW2 is still a barrel of laughs for me. Ranging from Glover's "SOUTH AFRICA" speech and Toilet bomb scene. I even liked Patsy Kensit as Rigg's innocent love interest.

Even LW4 has its moments

1) Murtaugh mistaking Chris Rock as being Gay

2) Jet Li snatching Rigg's gun in that takedown scene.

3) "WHY CAN'T WE BE FRIENDS?"

Felix, My fave scenes from the action classic...Lethal Weapon 4.

1)  Riggs drives his car from the off ramp, Through an office building, and back onto the highway.

2)  While Torturing Uncle Benny, Murtaugh finds out everybody lied to him about, Det. Butters secret.

3)  Riggs and Murtaugh vs Jet Li!

The opening shot for Lethal Weapon still blows my mind.

Waaaaaaaalt, Well, considering...Lethal, Weapon, is my favorite cop film franchise, there is little that I don't love about it.
