The Jarhead trailer

Does anybody here know what that song is they're using in the Jarhead trailer? I must get a copy of that.

The movie looks good, too.

If they haven't changed it...

it's "Jesus Walks" by Kanye West. Unless they've changed it in a new trailer--that's just the one i've seen on all the jarhead stuff.

Jesus Walks by Kanye West

Edit: damn, too late.

I preferred the teaser. This one has too many shots of Gyllenhaal grinning at his comrades' goofy behaviour. Don't know how successful Mendes will be at showing Swofford's change of character in the film. Looks pretty, though.

That trailer kicks unholy amounts of ass. The other song at the trailer's beginning, btw, is of course DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY by the great Bobby McFerrin, who claims to never ever want to do that song again.

This is one of the scripts a friend sent me from Los Angeles the other day, and it was total tits.

Busting with excitement for this one.

Love the trailer.

It reminds me of the Full Metal Jacket trailer. It has a similarly cynical and detached tone.

I love this trailer.

The trailer alone made me go out and buy the book. Haven't started it yet but I'm looking forward to it.

I'll see the movie, but I'm not a big fan of the trailer. "Jesus Walks" seems all wrong for it. It sounds nice and the clips are well edited to go along with the song, but does it have anything to do with the movie? Or did they just pick a popular hip hop song to get viewers to bob their heads and say, "Hey, I know that song. That's Kanye West. And look, it's in an army movie. And there's Jamie Fox! And..." I just don't think it fits. At any rate, it looks like a good movie.

If for anything else, 'Jesus Walks' works simply for the intro line:

"We're at war. We're at war with terrorism, racism, we're at war with ourselves."

Not that I've ever seen combat, but it's a little hard to buy the "war is hell" argument from a movie about the Persian Gulf War, which by most accounts was a walk in the park for U.S. forces. I think the troops in Baghdad today can probably make a much stronger case for knowing what "the suck" is all about.

I'd never heard the song before, but I thought the tune matched up with the visuals amazingly.

It's not so much telling a story that "war is hell", it's telling a story that basically goes "Yeah! Let's go to war! Action! Battle! Take down the enemy!.....shit, it's been five months and I haven't seen a single bullet, I haven't engaged a single target, I'm bored and there's sand in my boxers, why are we even OH FUCK THERE'S A TANK AND IT'S SHOOTING AT US."

Indeed. Well-put.

I think this is going to be more in the vein of THREE KINGS than anything else. Ain't no "war is hell" stuff.

I think the "Welcome to the Suck" is justified in the first Gulf War because it means that not only did soldiers have to suffer the "Big Army" BS but do so without the comforts of home. Its the MTV generation's first war. I'm really looking forward to this movie.
