Why'd you have it sent to your old job?

Amazon ships UPS. They are completely removed from the Brooklyn post office.
If you complain to Amazon, they're just going to tell you to call UPS.

This is truly bizarre.

You had a personal delivery sent to your place of work.

There's your first no-no.
It means your fucked.
I'm not trying to be antagonistic, but if the package arrived to the address you gave, UPS isn't liable anymore.
I'd find a new shipping address if I were you.

But they didn't fuck up, they sent it where you told them to. If you knowingly had them send it to a place you don't work at and they couldn't possibly hand delivery it to you even if they tried, why should UPS have to replace your product?

Damn you, Amazon, for delivering perfect service! You stupid fucks should be ashamed of accurately and promptly filling a customer order.
I got three packages from Amazon last week and it was ALL sent by USPS. I'm surprised they weren't stolen as the mailman just left my packages sitting on TOP of my mailbox.
"It's a write-off for them."

"How is it a write-off?"

"They just write it off."

"Write it off what?"

"Jerry, all these big companies, they write off everything."

"You don't even know what a write-off is."

"Do you?"

"No, I don't."

"But they do. And they're the ones writing it off."

"I wish I had the last twenty seconds of my life back."
Seriously, this thread totally pisses me off. What a giant load of horseshit.
From Diva's above post, it appears to be a pattern, whether it be Amazon, a restaurant, etc.

Similar to scamming/spamming her friends to get a free iPod.

I kid, Diva...sort of.
From my experience UPS just wants some bastard to sign that tablet that makes your sig look like a retarded bear gave it a shot.

I did have that little "We came by, you weren't home, we have your package hostage" slip left on my door and by the time they came back the damn motocross tickets I was waiting for arrived two days late.

"My bad". I just remembered FedEx was in that ticket fiasco. Not that friendly brown car.
Every time UPS has sent me a package from Amazon.com no one ccould sign for it but the addressee. I asked if I could have a neighbor sign and they said no. Little bit of a pain, but nothing got ripped off.

Your avatar is the second no-no of the day.

I keed. I keed.

TO DIVA:

I'm with you Diva. I lost a package once with Amazon. My thing was that I never received it nor did anyone else sign for it. Amazon, after the delivery window was up, refunded my money.

But, I don't recall what the protocol is for a package to which someone else signed for.

Did Amazon charge your credit card? If not you could do a stop payment and tell Amazon that you want your DVD sent to you before you lift it. A bit of a hostage thing, but might work.

Try stopping payment on your credit card if the opportunity is there.
Why didn't you just pick it up at a store last week?
That's outrageous, Matt.
Living in the suburbs advantage #1: Packages left at your doorstep with no fear of them being stolen. However, Amazon is really really easygoing with their frequent customers, so if you complained to them you'd probably get what they want.

There's one thing I've learned in life, if you complain enough, you'll get what you want. I've gotten free phones from my cell phone carrier, meals for free when the restaurant fucked up my order, etc. I may be fucked but I'm not going down with out a fight.
But you would be complaining over what amounts to a non-issue. I would think that it was folly to have it delivered to your EX place of employment, unless it was an excuse to go be social with old freinds. Even then, wouldn't this be something to take up with your friends at work? Someone at Amazon may get their wrist slapped if you follow this through to conclusion Sabrica. Everyone loses when people behave with this much entitlement.

Did you order it from the CHUD link?

Man, everyone certainly has opinions about this. Here's mine:

That sucks.

Hey Diva, did UPS say if this person also used the last name of "Borealis?" Because I once knew a hooker by that name. I don't know if she liked "Arrested Development" but she was always stealing things, mainly my heart.

If one complains hard enough, is one able to get a film reshot so that one understands it ?

But...you gave them an address where you no longer work. It wasn't a mistake - worse, it was on purpose. You knew you weren't going to be there. You trusted the people there to sign for your package and keep it safe for you. They didn't.

The idea that Amazon or UPS should compensate you when they're the only parties involved that have acted exactly as they should is completely fucked up.

The people at your old job should take some small blame for letting someone walk off with it, though it's hardly their priority to guard your property just because you still use their office as a mailbox.

Ultimately it's all down to you for using such a bizarre and pointless way of having something delivered.
I'm pretty sure you need to specify on your order if UPS needs your signature to deliver the package. Otherwise it's assumed they'll leave it with anyone at the location. This is especialy true for deliveries to businesses where it would be ridiculous to get different employees to sign for packages every day. All packages are signed for by the receptionist where I work. It's just common practice.
I don't have any big complaints about UPS, but it does kind of suck that someone out there took something that wasn't theirs. Argh!

I wanted to chime in about the mail in Brooklyn. It definitely is kind of shaky. I've never gotten more mangled magazines in my life or missed issues. There's proably other stuff I'm not even aware of. Argh! Argh!

The problem this time is that the receptionist was a fucking moron and left it sitting out unattended.
Just because you've done this before doesn't mean that this organisation is obliged to safeguard your mail. The "fucking moron" receptionist has a job to do that doesn't involve looking after your property.

So you didn't actually lose any money in this situation, which was your fault, but you were still willing to try and squeeze a refund out of the company which you acknowledge wasn't at fault...and you've also managed to sell something you got for free for $300?

Diva, you know I've got no problem with you, and I hesitate to say any more because these sorts of threads have a history of turning ugly for you, but...you really aren't coming across very well in all of this.

That's the nicest way I can think to say it.

These actions don't really fit the "small, not-for-profit" mindset, you know?

You should get a personal secretary, since Nidhi's job description doesn't cover that, and it'll be fucked up if she gets in trouble over this.

It doesn't matter if she keeps her job, it's fucked up if her boss so much as has a word with her about whether or not she is taking care of the packages of people who don't even work here anymore. You should get a PO Box.
Anyway, there's a reason I lock my door here. And now there's not just TOP in the office, but a campus chapter.

I believe it's also common sense to have items you have purchased be delivered to somewhere you have a physical attachment (i.e. your residence or CURRENT place of employment). You are the person who fucked up in all of this and it's rather petty and stupid that you're trying to pawn the responsibility off on the receptionist at your old job and UPS.

I don't know if Nidhi is at fault here but if you ask me she has always been bad news. All that toner that went missing a few months back? Probably Nidhi.

This wasn't wrong mail.

It's also common sense not to have things delivered to a place where you neither live nor work and then react with anger when eventually something goes missing.

Hey, good luck to you. It's just the combination of crowing about it in a thread where you've basically admitted to trying to bilk an undeserved refund from a company for something they didn't do.

It's not pleasant.

Draw your moral lines where you like - though I notice your disgust at corporations doesn't prevent you from ordering their DVDs, using their websites or their courier services. You could have sold your Amazon vouchers on craigslist and taken your business to a local independent DVD store if you were making some sort of anti-capitalist statement. Even though you were just singing the praises of capitalism.

Guess capitalism is only good when it nets you $300 profit?

Like I said, draw your lines where you will. I just had an idea of who you were based on our previous conversations on and off the boards, and this thread flies in the face of who I thought you were.

I didn't think you were a saint, but I never took you for someone so...selfish?

Don't know if that's the right word, but it seems like you're embracing the yuppie "mine all mine" mentality while waving the anti-corporate fuck-the-system flag.

You shouldn't. And, on the basis of this thread, you clearly don't.

You posted the thread, you made all this public, so you clearly wanted some reaction.

I'm just saying, is all.

My opinion of you is dented. Whether you give a fuck or not is no longer relevant.
Devin's suggestion of getting a PO Box is the way to go Diva.

Regarding the receptionist, even if she does not get in trouble she now has to deal with the fact that others in the office may start viewing her as incompetent.
Great thread.

It sucks you didn't get your DVDs. You've always come across as a nice person on the boards, and you do have my sympathy. I'm guessing somebody at your previous place of work saw the package, realized you weren't around, felt no sense of loyalty, and swiped it.

However, if you weren't personally involved in this, you would think that you exercised poor judgment, are refusing to take responsibility, and are paradoxically exploiting while at the same time professing to revile the capitalist paradigm. If you hated corporations so much, you wouldn't continuously utilize their services. If you weren't going to use your gym passes, why not donate them? You appear to have behavioral patterns that contradict your professed beliefs.
