Guitar Hero! - Page 80

The Heidi Klum ad has two variants, one where she wears the shirt, and one where she rips it off... they played the tame one in the early football game Sunday, which was nice. Then they played the racier one during the late game, which was NIIIIICE.

It almost makes up for the 'gay athletes' ad. Almost.

The first Guitar Hero: Metallica tracks, courtesy of the new Game Informer:

Metallica
---------
Enter Sandman
For Whom The Bell Tolls
Fuel
Hit The Lights
King Nothing
Master of Puppets
No Leaf Clover
Nothing Else Matters
Sad But True
The Unforgiven
Where I May Roam

Alice In Chains - No Excuses
Bob Seger - Turn The Page
Judas Priest - Hell Bent For Leather
Kyuss - Demon Cleaner
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Tuesdays Gone
Mastodon - Blood and Thunder
Michael Schenker Group - Armed and Ready
Samhain - Mother of Mercy
The Sword - Black River

There's also tracks from the Foo Fighters, Slayer, and Queen coming, too.

A bit too much Black Album representation, I'm officially nonplussed by Slayer tracks in Activision's hands, and while No Excuses is great, I will continue to be disappointed in Alice In Chains' spot in these games till I'm playing Would? on bass. Still.....not bad. Not bad at all.
The big question is what Queen are we getting.
Considering we're getting the Seger version of Turn The Page, Stone Cold Crazy's a solid guess.
This might have almost kept me from selling my Wii, had I read it earlier. Oh well.
'Stone Cold Crazy' would definitely be a fun Queen tune, but doing full albums for 'News of the World' or 'The Game' would be awesome
post #3958 of 4241
There's no good reason they couldn't have just made these available for download.
Yeah, sadly, I'd rather just have all those other songs in a game, and skip the Metallica focus.

Also from the new Game Informer:
Quote:
In other Guitar Hero news, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said during an earnings call that the company might turn downloading user-created Guitar Hero songs into a subscription-based service. This would cost money, whereas now you can get those songs for free.
GH: METALLICA sounds way better than GH:WT to me. This feels like a GUITAR HERO game, instead of a Rocktar Bandero game.
I'm surprised that I like that Metallica setlist so far. More for the non-Metallica stuff but still...

Kyuss - Demon Cleaner
That's such a fantastic pick, but I'm still not buying this until it's under $30 in the used bin.
Okay, so whose bright idea was it to make the bass pedal indicator purple on a purple background? Is there a way to change the fretboard design to something that will actually contrast with the bass note? Otherwise, I'm surprised at how much I like this game so far. I'm just playing on Hard and the note tracks are pretty easy but I'm only to the third or fourth set of posters (I just beat the Zak Wylde battle).
Are the battles only on higher difficulties? Because I've played all the way through the drum career on easy (and a chunk of the guitar career on hard), and never had a battle with anyone.

The fast sections are positively hypnotizing, like a purple strobe light.

I don't think so. There's only a couple of them in the whole game.
If you create your own character, you can pick what fretboard design you want to play with.

As for Battles, there are only 2 and they are only on Guitar. You do them when you pick the setlist that ends with Stillborn by Black Label Society or the one that ends with Stranglehold by Nugent.
Thanks for the tip, Flap. I must have missed that option when I was creating my guy.

I'm really amazed that you guys have the energy for two Instrument Protagonist series.

Then again, I never get tired of being a space marine or shooting zombies ...
None of these songs will be fun to play.

Hey, if you were a metal fan you'd think otherwise. I don't understand why a virtuoso like you doesn't like a little challenge, though. I agree that when a song gets a little too ridiculous it's near unplayable but for all these songs with such great solos and riffs... it's going to be fantastic.

Never mind how much fun it's going to be smashing the shit out of the drums to this stuff.
Guitar Hero always errs on the side of button mashing, which is bad enough, but all of that songs will consist of huge sections of cascading notes that make no sense. They're just going to be jumbles.
That sounds like Guitar Hero in general.
Is it true that they are adding a second foot pedal to the drum set?
I tend to avoid the metal songs as it is. A whole game devoted to them? No thanks.
Considering how fucking bored I am with what I've played of GH World Tour, it feels good to actually be excited about a GH game again. The Metallica tracks in both RB and GH so far have been amazingly well translated, especially the Death Magnetic DLC. I'd like to think this means they're bringing that extra care to this disc as well.

But then, I'm the asshole who bought, still plays, and loves the shit out of the Satriani/Steve Vai/Buckethead pack from GHIII.
I just really want to play 'No Excuses' on drums.
I have both RB2 and GHWT, and I'm already tired of the ridiculous note chart of GHWT. It makes no sense except their preference to have as many notes cascading down at once as possible. I think they really take the fun out of this game, and I've gone back to RB2 instead.
I got this for xmas. The bass open note mechanic changes things up a bit, at least keeps it from being boring on some songs.

Still, I found myself wholly bored with the game, the lack of atmosphere, and song selection. Add to that some songs not sounding 'right' due to funky mixing going on - crazy drum volume near the end of that Blondie song, some songs have painfully obvious tacked on endings, and certain songs feeling like they're fading out while you're still going - just sloppy. Which also applies to the in game advertising. I'd go wow Jimi Hendrix is in the game but I'm too distracted with the 3G speed cell phone service and KFC buckets everywhere.

Not that they force you to, but certain rewards require grinding the game? With such weak song selection? I did some custom sets and ended up going back to the same 6-7 songs (that's with some dlc bought) and called it a day.

I can't believe Dan Amrich in the end pages of the latest OXM was rallying against the GHWT vs RB fighting. He's a very cool guy, knows his stuff, and is the only good writer for that mag...but it's fairly easy to see one game is fun, has great songs, and is a better investment of your time. World Tour isn't.
I have to agree. While I'd love RB to steal the open notes on bass, the rest of WT is just a miss. There's a few great songs in there, but they're mashed together with a bunch of boring songs, terrible presentation, and complete lack of challenge or interesting progression. I don't care a huge amount aboud the character looks, but the models in WT are ugly, and animate like they're marionettes with a drunk guy pulling the strings.

I think I'm reaching the point of saturation with these games, so a new list of 60+ songs for $60 isn't going to cut it anymore (except for GH: METALLICA - that half-setlist is already heaps better than WT's). Both developers need to step up their game, but GHWT has been lapped at this point.
The tour in WT is just a mess. Doesn't fell like any kind of progression, and you can beat the final concert without having completed all the other gigs.
Yeah, I finished the final gig and expected to see a bunch of "tour completed" achievements pop up and got nothing. Weird. I also hate how you have to play a full set before you can play songs individually. Sometimes I don't have 45 minutes to dedicate to a set. That's why I play these games, so I can play a song or two and be on my way.

Two free Springsteen tracks week of 1/27. 'Born to Run' and the new 'My Lucky Day'.

"Coinciding with the release of his new album, Working on a Dream (Columbia Records), the two-song Track Pack will be available for download simultaneously with the album’s release on January 27, 2009. The Track Pack, which features the iconic Springsteen song “Born to Run” and “My Lucky Day,” a brand-new track off his new album, Working on a Dream, will be free to download during the first week of the album’s release."
I haven't touched either GH or RB in at least two months. The bloom may be off the rose.
I'm excited for those Springsteen tracks.

...but I'd like to see future Springsteen releases happen in Rock Band.

Question: My sister recently purchased a Wii and she really wants a Guitar Hero game. I see that the Wii-mote fits into the guitar but is it a necessary part of the controller?
The reason I ask is that I found a bundle that includes 2 guitar controllers but she only has one Wii-mote; would I need a second remote in order to use the second guitar?
Short Answer: Yes.
Also, you should tell her to buy Rock Band instead of Guitar Hero.

Not bad. Not bad at all. If the game wasn't going to be super mega ultra overcharted, it'd be a no brainer for me. The bonus stuff is pretty nice though. "Stone Cold Crazy" and "Demon Cleaner" FTW.
No Whiskey in the Jar?
Nice. Very nice.

I'd say One and All Nightmare Long was wasted real estate but pretty much everything else that would work in this game is already in there.

Also, thumbs up to one of my favorite underlooked Foo Fighters tracks, and, at least till I play the damn thing, and break my damn guitar in the process, more Slayer.
And how many goddamn times is Ace of Spaces going to show up in these games?
Battery
Disposable Heroes
Master of Puppets
Orion
The Thing that Should Not Be
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)

Come on, we're only 2 songs short of having the entire 'Master of Puppets' album.
Speaking of which, kudos for going with the right instrumental track. The non-S&M version of Call of Ktulu is such the wank.

I wish you can transport the songs from GH: Metallica over to GHWT like you can with RB & RB2. The bonus tracks are actually pretty nice and I'd love to play AIC's No Excuses.
I am DYING to play the Springsteen songs!
Not like I don't understand. But DAMMIT.

Quote:
Now a little something for the Slayer fans in the house: the game includes the Slayer track War Ensemble, from Seasons in the Abyss (what, no Seasons of the Abyss itself?). That's...OK. Better than a kick in the shins.

But originally, the dev team had managed to get "Angel of Death" in the game.

The Slayer story was interesting. We’ve had Slayer in [a "Guitar Hero" game] before. But now, you can sing their lyrics. It’s a totally different ball of wax. We had the song “Angel of Death” cleared.

Or so they thought. Flores says the song was then taken out of the game, loosely citing concerns from parents and elaborating with "We couldn’t get that song cleared, and we had to take it off".
And apparently, thats the track Lars was talking about when saying the band actively fought to get Slayer in this game. I repeat: DAMMIT.

Yeah, that suclks.

DLC, I could see. But not in a retail game- no how, no way. What parent's going to be pleased with their kids screaming "AUSCHWITZ! THE MEANING OF PAIN! THE WAY THAT I WANT YOU TO DIE!"

Never mind the "showers that cleanse you of your life." I could imagine them getting into some trouble with that. But DLC, with a warning, and they'd be good to go.
