Personal music preferences aside then, Rock Band 2's preferable to 1 yeah?

Yup, and you can DLC Rock Band 1 for 5$ when you buy RB2.
Bah. It has started. Rock Band 2's going to be another £29. Be trading in that Guitar Hero first methinks.
I'm pretty sure if you would have asked most everyone would have just suggested going straight to RB2.
The sheer volume of DLC makes RB the logical choice, Dan. You'll be able to pick and choose from a huge, HUGE library of available songs that cover almost all genres and skill levels. Just stick with a GH guitar and you'll be happy.
And should I wish to be unethical and use my free rental service to aquire RB1, I can just pay that gesture of coins to transfer the tunes over - it'll never ask for RB1 again?

I can shift GH3 for a tenner, trade in Killzone 2 and get RB2 for next to nothing. I love it when a plan comes together.

This solo thing being more difficult in RB sounds slightly daunting, but i've already consigned my fingers to arthritic hell anyway.
Honestly, you don't really need to worry about it until you're playing on Expert. And the quality of fake plastic guitar is so much better for most every other song it's probably still worth it to use the GH3 one.

I almost never used the Rock Band guitar except on a couple songs where the HOPO's were just too much for me (and I only played those when I was trying to 'beat' the game and not playing for fun).

I just wanted to be clear what the difference between the guitars are.

You are correct. All of the songs (except for 3) from RB1 will be saved to your hard drive. You'll never need the disc for RB1 again.

So you've got THAT going for you...which is nice.

I'm VAI PETRUCCI on XBox Live, by the way. If you need someone to jam with you on there, ping me if I'm online.
All this advice is appreciated guys, it's obviously difficult coming to terms with the fact i'll probably never have another full night's sleep again, or eat a meal without being glued to a screen for the duration.

Cheers for the challenge Judas, but i'm from the other side of the tracks. Microsoft and Sony just don't want us to jam together!
Don't worry Dan, there are a number of us on PS3 who have the game (and have never played online together as far as I'm aware).
We'll jam it old school style then! (i've sent you invites for bits and pieces before - you're just always busy it seems! )
So as Brad said, i'm essentially damned. Fucking guitar won't link with my PS3 no matter what I do. Been told it's a common complaint with these cunting things - apparently this being the "good" guitar means fuck all then.

Selling it and being done with the sodding thing.
The prophecy is fulfilled!
I feel like my time with Guitar Hero has taught me many things.

Mainly not to buy Guitar Hero.
So i've gone and ordered the wireless Les Paul seperately from <Offending Game Name Here> in the vain hope that i'm not cursed and that all the rumours regarding dodgy Bluetooth adaptors and terrible lag are rare occurances.

And Beatles Rock Band has arrived! This is good, ja?

Assuming no further technical issues, it's bliss.

But you'll never truly be human again, Tainted One.

Thread Starter
Can't believe this thread's over four years old.

Anyway, there's a demo for Guitar Hero: Van Halen up on 360 if you're interested. Track list-

“Dope Nose” – Weezer
“The End of Heartache” – Killswitch Engage
“Eruption” – Van Halen
“Panama” – Van Halen
Man, nothing reminds me of Van Halen more than Weezer and Killswitch Engage, I tellya.
I may regret this but I just picked up Guitar Hero Smash Hits from Best Buy for $15 after it went on sale for $20 this week and I used a $5 coupon. There were enough songs on the list that I still kind of wanted to play that it seemed worth the small amount of money.
Can't believe no one's posted this yet:

Christmas Light Guitar Hero.

OK, he's playing on "Easy", but still...
Just in case anyone was still considering picking up Guitar Hero 5 at a discounted price, Amazon currently has the game for only $18 and the guitar bundle for about $39. Only for 360 though.
You know, my old GHIII guitar finally gave up the ghost, and while I was looking to get a new one, I saw the GH5 bundle for about three dollars more than a guitar by itself. So I ordered it, and I'm satisfied. The new guitar works great, and it's almost like I got the game for free along with it. And for free, the songs in GH5 that I like to play are worth it.
Picked up the Van Halen game on clearance for twenty bucks. Jamming out on "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" and "Panama" almost feels worth that alone.
There seems to be a new game coming:

Guitar hero : Warriors of Rock

http://www.lazygamer.co.za/xbox-360/...oll-adventure/

So my mind says "Guitar Hero with Brutal Legend's soundtrack"... but there's no way it will be that good.

GH : Metallica was ok, but still could have had a better selection of metal.
Geez, what's wrong with just letting us play songs we like?
Letting us play songs we like isn't Guitar Hero's problem. Not knowing how to present those songs in a game players give a shit about, and not releasing 37 of the fucking things a year is.
I see we've reached the traditional "too embarrassed to mention the number" entry in an Activision franchise.

This is also fairly dickish of Activision considering they cut Brutal Legend loose.
Nothing about that description sounds any different than any previous GH game. They all had "stories". We'll have to see if this is anything other than the standard silly 15-second cartoon cutscenes.

Seeing as Neversoft has already been fired off the GH franchise the instant this title wraps, I'm not expecting anything revolutionary. Or good.
There's an article on Joystiq with the debut trailer with some tracks and gameplay features

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/04/gu...-with-trailer/

Aside from the abysmally stupid looking single player campaign some of the details and tracks look interesting. Although the 90 tracks on-disc sounds awesome I'm pretty skeptical about the quality of the song selection considering the route some of the more recent games' tracklists have gone. But then again I haven't bought a Guitar Hero game since GH3 so what do I know?
The best you could say for this is you'll get 90 songs for what will be a bargain title within weeks of release.

Every really cool track/artist on that list is in RB 2. Except Dethklok. ANd goddammit, Brendan Small needs to fix that post haste.

Keep trying, guys.

Hey guitar freaks, look at these radical new axes!!1

Okay, that, I want.
I guess they got rid of that touch pad slide-thingy from World Tour. Eh, I never used it anyways.
I think Activision may finally succeed in making guitars uncool.

More tracks for Warriors of Rock:

Alice Cooper "No More Mr. Nice Guy"
Alter Bridge "Ties That Bind"
Atreyu "Ravenous"
Bad Brains "Re-Ignition"
Blue Oyster Cult "Burnin' For You"
Bush "Machinehead"
Deep Purple "Burn" (Remastered LP version)
The Edgar Winter Group "Free Ride"
Five Finger Death Punch "Hard To See"
George Thorogood and the Destroyers "Move It On Over (Live)"
Lynyrd Skynyrd "Call Me The Breeze (Live)"
Pantera "I'm Broken"
Poison "Unskinny Bop"
Ramones "Spiderman"
Rise Against "Savior"
The Runaways "Cherry Bomb"
Steve Vai "Speed"
Strung Out "Calling"
Styx "Renegade"
Sum 41 "Motivation"
Them Crooked Vultures "Scumbag Blues"
The White Stripes "Seven Nation Army"

Aside from more Pantera, there is nothing in that list that even perks an eyebrow.
I think there's already around 66 tracks from the 90+ setlist revealed. After so many music games, I'm pretty ambivalent to the Warriors of Rock setlist, with the exception of the entire 20 minutes of "2112".

This was an odd thing. I watched that recent Guitar Hero video announcing the inclusion of "2112" as the final challenge - and Project Director Brian Bright, not once, but twice said that they were including the entire 2112 album. Has this been confirmed anywhere else? I'd like to think that the creator of this game would know what he's talking about. Perhaps he meant that side 2 of the album would be coming as DLC, and not on the game disc.
Complete Warriors of Rock tracklist.

Still pretty sure this is a No Sale for me, least till it's $20. Arch Enemy? Dillinger Escape Plan? NIN's Wish? Dethklok? I'm Broken? Cool. Almost entirely negated by Drowning Pool and Nickelback.
Yeah I don't see nearly enough in the full setlist to get excited about. Most definitely a game that's a rental, or a $20 bargain bin purchase.

As a Rock Band player, the Warriors of Rock setlist does have a few tracks/artists that I am envious of: Bad Brains, Neil Young, Rolling Stones, "2112".
