Guitar Hero! - Page 2

You can get it directly from Red Octane's site. They've got plenty.
This isn't really my type of game, so I probably won't be picking it up. I do think it's cool that a Bad Religion song was included, but I wonder why they chose "Infected", as it's probably the least "fun" song of theirs to play. That's just seemed really odd to me since I first saw the tracklist for the title.
Play it on Hard and Expert, you know why.

It's like a training course to learn how to shift your hand.

And, why isn't it your kind of game? Not looking to bust your chops or anything. Just curious.
Fair enough. I would've put in something like "The Empire Strikes First" or "Struck a Nerve" if it were me, though.
I had another question. Some of these songs have both rythim and lead guitarists in bands, do you shift from one to another from level to level or is it just one pattern of music you play that just gets progressively harder.

I would love it if on one song you could play the rythim then switch difficulty and try for the lead parts.

And yeah Millette, Infected is probably the worst choice. But it's the most public-known song so I guess that's why they went with it. I hear it on the radio often still.
You're pretty much playing whatever guitar part is most prominent at any time in the song--all the riffs, the solos, etc. The difficulty is based on how closely the pattern mimics the actual part.

Jesus... I tried finding this game here in Montreal. The few store that can order it are sold out. Pretty much unfindable at EB game because they officially don't have it, due to some retarded law about not being able to sell games without a french instruction manual... I'll probably go with the new Cherry guitar mutiplayer bundle from Red Octane. That's 35$ of shipping to Canada.... goddammit... a 180$ ( 155 US$) investment. The price is not bad, considering that they sell the game 99 CAN$, but the shipping.... seriously, i'm considering,

IS IT THAT GOOD ?
Yes.

Or just wait on EB.
Is it $150 worth of good?

No.

But just barely.

The guys at EB told me that

1st - 1 chance in 10 that they are able to get some of them
2nd- They can only get the game. So I might as well order the 2 guitar bundle and be done with it. I give myself a few days to reflect on this... or so I tell myself...
I haven't really had too much exposure to Guitar Hero, but isn't the core gameplay here basically the same as Amplitude. I recently re-acquired that one at a KB Toys for $10 and it really is a lot of fun. I was hooked, but got creamed in the second tier... It get's hard. And I watched a demo that looked nearly impossible.

Didn't get Guitar Hero for X-mas, but oh well. Some other time I guess. Ten dollars for Amplitude isn't too bad of a substitution, huh?
It's the same insomuch as there's a track moving toward you, and color coded little discs to hit. In retrospect, though, Guitar Hero's a little more forgiving. Miss a note here, you just try to get the next one, and you lose your multiples. Missing a note in the wrong section of Amplitude can mean your ass.

However, I will say getting your brain used to following notes and the rhythm is decent training for Guitar Hero.

And if you're playing on any difficulty other than hard and Expert you have NO idea how hard it's gonna get. Try I Am Hated on Insane, and despair.
Well, I found out how far my abilities extend. I can pass every single song on hard except Bark at the Eat My Balls Moon. That main riff just isn't clicking with me.
if you wanna bullshit your way through the main riff, fuck the chords, just hit the green notes. Cheesy, and anybody watching will laugh at you....but effective.....
i posted this in other forums awhile ago but for those who may not be aware of this, here's a news broadcast mini-review from early December 2005. the cast and crew is absolutely having a great time http://cbs13.com/video/?id=3252@kovr.dayport.com
post #67 of 4241
That was hilarious. Seemed like a cool news set to work on.
Shit, I'm applying at the wrong news station. I SHOULD be trying to work there.
Has anyone here played this with a second controller? I just ordered a second guitar from the Red Octane website (they sell a pretty cool red one for 49 bucks), and I'm curious if anyone has checked out how the two-guitar thing works.
Well I said fuck it and bought a PS2 just for this game yesterday. And Holy Crap. I burned 5 hours like it was nothing. I slid right through easy with mostly 4 stars and then slid through Medium without a problem until I hit "No One Knows." Although by then my fingers were numb and my eyes were tired of following the dots, but that song kicked my ass and the whole time I'm thinking "There's still 2 more levels?!" Also, I don't know about you guys but I played it standing up, and in doing so sometimes you just can't help but get into it and rock out and so today my legs are cursing me. I'm totally hooked on this game.
I've been going back through to get 5 stars on on everything on easy, then I'm gonna work on medium, etc.. I haven't even bothered with the unlockable songs yet, I really need to check those out.

For some reason, this game gives me carpal tunnel syndrome only in the first finger of my left hand. Doesn't hurt or anything, but after I play for a while I can't curl that finger down to touch my palm for about a week. Freaky.

Can't wait for the cherry red second controller. It arrives tomorrow. It's gonna be a rock wars weekend...
Some of the unlockable songs are genuinely pretty good (Fire It Up, Cheat On The Church, Sail Your Ship By, The Breaking Wheel, Even Rats). Some deserve their own special category of oddity (Freezepop, as usual). Some just plain suck altogether (You pray for prog rock, and the best they can do is Farewell Myth? Dammit...). The rest vary in between, but most of them wind up being fun to play nonetheless. Give 'em all a shot.

Not to mention, getting 5 stars on every song gives you the Guitar God status on that difficulty. I won't spoil what the magazine says after that, but it's hilarious.
TWO GUITARS FUCKING ROCK!

More later...
I think I'm gonna have to cave in and try and get this pretty soon. Dang! Sounds like lots of fun. I've seen people playing along to "I Love Rock N Roll" a few tims in a local Best Buy. Must... shop!
And "I Love Rock and Roll" is probably the dullest song in the game. Wait until you can bust out some Spanish Castle Magic or Godzilla.
It is the dullest. Godzilla is fun, and I think i got the most satisfaction in getting 82% of the notes on Texas Flood. Granted it was only on medium but I've only been playing for two days.
Texas Flood is great fun. Bark at the Moon is fucking IMPOSSIBLE on hard.
Bark at the Moon on Medium: MASTERED! Got 5 stars for every songs in this difficulty, I believe it's now time to move onto Hard, which is gonna kick my ass for a few days. Thanks for the tip in the other thread Crow, I'll try that.

It's tough as nails, but I think so far my favorite song to play is Cowboys from Hell. I feel like jumping and trashing all over everytime I do it. What's great about this game is that it's making me pursue a ton of stuff, some of the bands on there I'd never heard anything from. Got a lot of musical catching up to do...
Shit - it's fucking impossible on medium. Or it was last night. Didn't help that my left hand had degenerated into The Claw after a few hours of playing. The notes aren't that hard to play they just come so damn fast and I haven't quite gotten the hammer-ons/pull-offs mastered yet.
It's far and away the hardest song on the game, even appreciably harder than the other songs in it's category. With a little practice, though, it becomes doable on medium.

But it's undoable on hard. It's the goddamn Mike Tyson of the game.

I can't do those for shit. Never even have the instinct to try and pull'em off. You don't really need anyway, provided you llearn how to strum fast enough. I can perfectly do the blue-yellow-red-green slide from Cowboys from Hell 9 times out of 10 simply by strumming.

Oh No, there goes Tokyo! Go Go Godzilla!

Awesome! I'll have to go browse that list of songs again. Thanks guys.
Ok, I just ordered this bad boy off of ebay so I should have it in a week or two. It has now been dedicated the Friday night druken game. So here's the question...on a scale of one to ROCK!!!!!, how kickass is two player mode with 2 guitars?

Oh, and apparently Cowboys From Hell kicks everyone's ass and I hear this video rocks. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...&q=Guitar+Hero All I know is I watch the first 15 sec. and had to stop, or my computer would have exploded from awesome.
I yelled "You show-off sonuvabitch" at my computer monitor after he did hammer-ons and pull-offs with his strumming hand. Jesus, he's showing off while playing CFH on Expert and I can't even hope to COMPLETE that goddamn song on Expert.
I. Must. Own. This. Game.
Wow...that was badass. Makes me feel like a tool for getting frustrated at Crossroads on hard. Which, by the way, I don't think I'll ever be able to beat. That second solo mocks my existence.
I was all cynical, sneering "Yeah, I can do that" most of the song. That chorus riff is actually the easy part of the song once you get hammer-ons down.

Then he ripped through the guitar solo. Switching hands.

Son. Of. A. Bitch.
Is the guitar full sized? Or a scaled down version?

In the middle somewhere. Not as big as my Strat but big enough to strap over your shoulder and play comfortably.

I love this game.

It's funny, I have no problem blasting through Symphony of Destruction on Hard with 5 stars, but Sum 31's song gives me trouble. It's much easier if you're familiar with the guitarwork, obviously.

This saturday I'm going to have my first 2 player experience. Can't wait.

Not necessarily.

I can beat the entire last section (Godzilla, Frankenstein, Texas Flood, etc) without breaking a sweat on Expert these days. Four stars on Crossroads through to Cowboys From Hell.

I've beaten No One Knows on Expert ONCE. And the meter was WAY in the red when I did it.

It's insane. Especially considering, from what I've heard, the song is ridiculously easy to play on a real guitar.

Well, I'm just saying that being familiar with the song helps. I smashed through Symphony with 5 stars on my first try. And I'm having trouble getting 5 stars on all the other songs at the end. Although Bark at the Moon is ridiculous no matter how well you know it.

And yeah, some of the songs are waaaay more intricate than they actually are if you played them on a guitar.
How many of you sing along once you've mastered the song? C'mon...admit it.
I do. And I'm proud to say that I blasted through most of the last section on Hard last night in one try. I still got Bark at the Moon left to do but I'm gettin 83% completion regularly. I just gotta figure out that post-chorus riff and I'm good to go.
That video actually helped me out. I never thought of trying to do slides on those passages that have a zillion hammers and pulls. My results aren't as refined, but it gets me to the end of the song.
Well then, I just ordered the multi-player bundle with the Cherry guitar directly from Red Octane.

All that thanks to you guys.

Just. Can't. Wait.
Good luck Winterfell!

Personally, I go through with BATM on Hard Friday night and used the weekend to fly through most of the Expert. I still got three songs left - Frankenstein, Cowboys From Hell & Bark at the Moon. I'm fairly confident about Frankenstein but I'm already intimidated by the last two.
Well. Thanks to you guys I have no life again.

I just received Guitar Hero with an additionnal Cherry guitar.

I rocked until 2 in the morning.

Just. Amazing.
Ho-lee Shit. I thought this game would probably be fun but I didn't realize it would be so amazing that it's all I would think about the rest of the day. I only played through two songs but it took all of my will power to sent the guitar down and walk away from the demo kiosk. I played Thunderkiss 65 and Take Me out and I gotta say, if they really were covers, they were two of the best covers I've ever heard. I didn't notice a difference from the originals other than my pathetic guitar skills. The only downside is that Donkey Konga is considerably less awesome now.

NOTE TO BEST BUY: If you're going to have a demo game this amazing that makes people want to buy it immediately, it's a smart idea to have some stock on hand. I hope I find a copy before the end of the week isn't extra expensive (I'm looking at you, GameStop).
I've gotten stuck on a few songs during the course of the game but nothing has frustrated me as much as Cowboys From Hell on Expert. I can't even get to the first verse on a regular basis and it actually pissed me off yesterday which is rare for me when it comes to video games. I somehow doubt I'm ever going to complete this game.

Needless to say any tips and/or tricks would be appreciated.
