Sox & 'Stros - the 2005 World Series - Page 3

I'm so hungover it's not even funny. Or is it?

Unfortunately here in Boulder there aren't many Sox fans, so I didn't get to celebrate the way I would've liked but who cares, we won the fucking World Series.

Not only did we win, we did it with panache. We won games in every way possible: long-ball, small-ball, pitching (lots of good pitching), defense, blow outs, clutch plays, you name it. I haven't been around as long as many of you, so my sense of baseball history is limited, but I don't know that any other team in history could've beat us this post-season, we were that good.

I can only hope everyone comes back next year.

On an unrelated note, I've always liked Pierzynski for some bizarre reason. The guy has a kind of Pete Rose-ish (not that I'm comparing their stats) "loveable jerk" quality that's endearing. It still makes me laugh to think about that play in the 2002 ALCS when Garrett Anderson barely scooped up a fly ball of his to end the game and A.J. was giving this hilarious "ah ah ah...no!" gesture with his index finger as he was on his way to second, trying to get the umps to rule that the ball was trapped. He's certainly a gamer.

Apparently my sports worlds have collided. The White Sox have been carrying around a "Play Like a Champion Today" sign like the one ND taps on its way out of the locker room.

Well, I've gone out and done it.

I just spend $100 bones on 2 shirts, 2 hats, and 2 different newspapers to remember the year.

What's the streak, 20 out of 21? Just an ungodly run of baseball, and you deserve the hell out of this Series.

And at least now I can still say the Sox are world champs
actually I think it was 16 of 17 and 19 of 22... but still, talk about "it's how you finish."

The first and last games of this year were won 1-0 by the Sox. Some sort of cool little fun fact, I guess.

Hahahaha! Don't worry, you'll be spending a lot more in the upcoming months. Official DVDs, magazines, etc.

I've been looking forward to the DVDs more than anything. I hope they put it all out there, but I hope to get an optional Jon Rooney/Ed Farmer commentary track... Tired of Timmy and Joey.

What did the Red Sox DVDs have on them as far as highlights, complete games, etc... I'm sure you bought those.

Once again, I would like to apologize on behalf of all Cubs fans for the actions of stupid smarmy bitter little cuntrockets like Anya here. I myself have no hate for the White Sox, mostly because I reserve all my hate for the Cardinals and the Yankees. What the Sox did this last season was play some damn good baseball and I wanna congratulate them and all their fans who've stuck through thick and thin to get to this championship moment. Don't let the haters bring you down.

That said, whatever you rub in the faces of Cubs fans this year will be returned next year, so try to keep it tactful please?

One negative. McCarver has done countless post-season games and has not improved one iota. In fact, he may have become worse.

The Red Sox DVD set is actually pretty damn amazing. All 7 ALCS games, and all 4 WS games, plus a bonus DVD (I'm actually watching game 7 of the ALCS now...yea, I'm a freak).

Each game DVD is exactly that...the Fox broadcast of each game, commercial-free. Of course, you have to put up with Tim McCarver's dumbass, but that's a small price to pay for these games. The bonus DVD contains the celebrations, interviews, ring ceremony, etc.

Now, don't get me wrong...the DVDs are excellent. However, what I think really makes this set cool are the DVD cases. The scores are on each spine; the fronts have the box scores across the top, along with other relevant info for each game; best of all, however, is the inside...the box score along with play-by-play for each inning. Cool stuff.

Hopefully MLB will put out a DVD just like it for you White Sox fans. This was what I wanted most since the last out of last year's WS, and they certainly delivered.

Bah! I sound like a salesman! Ah well.

That's EXACTLY what I want. I purposely didn't tape the games for that specific reason.

No need. I think I can speak for the rest of the Sox fans (at least here) by saying, we don't have any shit to give any Cub fans except Anya, and as I said before, I really do hope you get to see your team win. (I'm just happy we got there first.) And yes, I'll still root for the Sox to destory the Cubs in the crosstown, and I'll root for the Sox if for some reason they play against each other in the WS, but I won't root against the Cubs for the rest of the time. This is too sweet to not be felt by others...

Except, I do want Anya to become a member of "Lost" when it happens. I don't want him to enjoy it. I want him to return from him island a year after the fact.

I don't suppose the Series ending early means Fox might actually show the Simpsons Halloween special ON Halloween weekend?
I've never had so many of the same commercials banged into my head so often.

...but I kinda want to watch that wife swap with the crazy churchy fat lady now.

Ha! The Yankees/ChiSox might have drawn better ratings for Fox (Onion link, above) but I think the result would be the same.

Congratulations to GFC, Boomstick, and the rest of the long-suffering ChiSox fans. Looks like pitching, defense, and the ability to exploit a little luck wins championships. Who'd a thunk it? I was ready to bet that Cleveland was on their way to the postseason in the final month, but Ozzie and the gang kept it together. Good stuff.

Better question: What's wrong with finding out?

If Selig really wanted the major leagues to regain their strut, he'd take Valentine's call and make this happen, somehow, some way. Not now, maybe, but maybe next year. Designate the last two weeks of October to a real world series, and see who's boss.
I wouldn't have a problem with it, it might be fun to watch... but baseball would be stupid to do it. sure, it might get some hype for a year or two... but diminishing the world series even in a little way by playing another "world championship" against a league that is in no way going to increase the success or profitability of major league baseball, not to mention catch on with the american public, would eventually be counterproductive.
