Hilarious action fight scenes

Passenger 57
John Cutter (Wesley Snipes) vs Charles Rane (Bruce Payne)

If you don't laugh when Snipes kicks Payne in the head in the middle of the passengers and a pissed off Payne elbows a helpless guy in a seat something is wrong with you.

Mission Impossible 2
Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) vs Sean Ambrose (Dougray Scott)

This hilarious contest of weakness goes on for an eternity on screen as Tom hoots, hollers and screams. Poor Dougray.

How can anyone forget the fight scene in They Live? Pure genius.
Are we talking intentionally hilarious or unintentionally?

For the former, anything from Kung Fu Hustle is just brilliant, especially the Landlady. I also like the 'pit fight' in Hot Shots 2 (as well as Lloyd Bridges vs. Saddam Hussein).
May I add the underwater fight scene from "Top Secret", and James Colburn VS Bruce Willis in Hudson Hawk.
Seeing Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson beat the shit out of each other and then hearing Tommy's drunken cackle makes for a pretty funny fight in "Rules of Engagement".
Bruce Campbell vs. Bad Ash!

I'm wracking my brain, there are tons out there I'm forgetting.
The scene in Tokyo Drifter where Tetsu tosses his pistol in the air, runs an arc, catches the pistol again and shoots the Yakuza boss is hilarious. The Western saloon brawl pastiche had me doubled-up, too.
The bowling alley fight from the Mr. Miyagi-Jay Leno masterpiece Collision Course. You can see the stunt men in the background throwing incrediably fake punches.
They Live was my first thought too, upon seeing the thread title.

I'd also have to offer up the final fight between Steven Seagal and William Forsythe in Out For Justice. Intentional or not, I crack up every time.
Arnie in Total Recall when he brutalises Harry & the Gang, mainly just for the fact that he 'Karate Chops' one of them.
Van Damme Vs. The Pittsburgh Penguins mascot (with a woman inside the suit) in SUDDEN DEATH.

"GUMMY BEARS! GUMMY BEARS!"

"SPRINKLES! SPRINKLES!"

Classic.

I'd like to add just about any fight scene from Jackie Chan's extremely early (I think he was 17 or 18 at the time of filming) film Fearless Hyena. The best one has to be where Jackie's character and his uncle have a chopstick fight over lunch. It has to be seen to be believed.

The scene in Fist of Legend where Jet Li wreaks havok on the connective tissue of an entire class full of Japanese students is another high point for chuckle (and cringe) inducing fight scenes.

Oh and since I read an article about the homosexual subtext in the original Transporter, I can't watch the greased fistfight with a straight face.
Pretty much any fight in either Transporter film has me and my brother rolling in our seats with laughter. It's just too much fun.
The Burly Brawl from The Matrix Reloaded.

It is so ridiculous, so over-the-top, that it defies description.

And it is comedy gold.
Yoda vs. Count Dooku in Episode II had me in fits of hysterics for some reason.

Not Yoda vs. Palpantine in III though, that just made me sad.

None of which are as good as R2 vs Yoda in V though. Even if it was very one sided.
15 posts and not a single mention of EVERY SINGLE fight scene in Riki-Oh?

He punched THROUGH another guy's fist for cryin' out loud!

I will quite often put the disk in just for that sequence. It's so pointless. Serves no purpose. Yet it's fantastic. It's like the ultimate special effects "Fuck you". Put there just for the sake of it.

I find the fight between Tyler and Jack at the end of Fight Club pretty funny. Jack using a car antenna, and Tyler beating Jack with his shoe.
As for unintentional laughs, I caught 15 Minutes on TV a few weeks ago, and the "fight scene" where DeNiro is taped to the chair had me laughing my ass off for some reason.
Also, any movie where the film is slightly sped up to show how bad-ass someone is. I'm thinking of Under Seige 2 at the moment, but there are plenty more. Off topic, sped up film just looks like shit to me whenever it's used, so maybe I'm just biased. One example of a good sped up moment(not a fight scene though) is the Trainspotting shot where Renton is sitting perfectly still in the booth while everyone plays bingo(?) around him

Jackie Chan fight scenes have a lot of intentional laughs, as do the aforementioned Kung Fu Hustle and Riki-oh(oh god I hope they were intentionally funny).

*edit- Oh shit, how could I forget the end fight of Commando between Matrix and Bennet, pure genius!
Paris vs Menalaus (sp?) from Troy. I almost felt sorry for Orlando...and then we see Agamemnon pointing and laughing from the sidelines and that just made me fall out of my chair laughing
post #20 of 64
I've got to go with the backalley brawl in They Live. The first time I saw that I was amazed that it goes on for as long as it does. I haven't seen the movie in awhile, but thinking back on it, the fight seems to go on for about ten minutes. Just two guys beating the hell out of each other - classic.

As a youngster I also thoroughly enjoyed the first half hour of Karate Kid wherein Ralph Macchio gets pummelled over and over and over again.

Pain does not exist in this dojo.

The best part was Mr. Miyagi beating up the bullies, even the one who wanted Johnny to stop hitting Daniel.
Most of the stuff in HARD TARGET is pretty funny. Especially in the UNCUT versions where Van Damme shoots every guy 40 times. Then it ends with a Grenade in Lance Henriksen's pants.
I also have to add the big crowd fight scenes at the end of Blazing Saddles. The one in the Western setting is brilliant enough, but the one in Hollywood is better, with pie fights, a "counter slide punch" and a guy playing Hitler ("They lose me right after the bunker scene") saluting in the background. Pure genius.
Um, you all seem to be forgetting a little something that I like to call Big Trouble in Little China. Where to start? Burton knocking himself out with a chunk of falling ceiling... Wang flying through the air for, like, years during the sword fight... An elemental swelling and exploding like Rosie O'Donnell after a trip to Taco Bell. So many, many cherished memories (the movie, not Rosie O'Donnell).
Eddie Murphy Vs. Nick Nolte in 48 hrs. Great. You can plainly tell which was Murphy, and which was his stunt double. Nolte's final hit is awesome.

Yoda vs. Count Dooku (I still have to take a moment and ponder that name...Count Dooku. Really, George?)...that fight was ridiculous. A part of me wanted it to look cool, but I couldn't get over how amazingly stupid it was. Who knew Yoda was such a slippery little mofo.

Oh, and Diomedes, your signature..."Gimme Danger", yes? If so, well done. Very well done indeed.
The 1994 flick The Puppet Masters has a scene where Donald Sutherland kicks a pod-type person in the face to remove him from a moving car, yelling, or rather merely stating, "Get out!". He then does this once more, and it is either the same scene edited in again or he gave the exact same delivery, but the effect is unintentionally humorous. Though I think the whole film is, myself.

Nicholas Cage vs. John Goodman in Raising Arizona.

End of discussion.

Agreed.

Any fight in "Attack The Gas Station" makes me laugh.

I forgot to mention unintentionally hilarious.

Pretty much any fight in Mortal Kombat Annihilation qualifies.
I second the vote for They Live. It his hilariously drawn out, and couldn't have had two better leads than Rowdy Roddy Piper and Keith David.

To second JOhnny's original lambasting of Passenger 57, I love how before Bruce Payne's character is kicked out that Snipes' character attempts to kick him in the nuts at least 7 times.

High Risk, when Jet Li drives his Mini Cooper-size compact car into a hotel elevator, rides up to the floor where the bad guys are, then peels out of the elevator in the car, driving around room in a circle, shooting everyone with a machine gun.

High Risk is the best Die Hard HK comedy around. That scene with the car is hilariously great.

Pretty much anything with Seagal - and Sinatra vs. the table in The Machurian Candidate.

That scene with Sinatra has been lampooned by my friends and I for years. I also second the Mortal Kombat Annihilation vote.
"Hey, it's Scorpian! But how did he live after...? Oh, he's gone now, moving on!"
Everything in Commando. But the part at the end when Bennet gets electrocuted for a moment and then springs off and punches Matrix while he declares the he's "Feeling really, really good John!" is truly fucking hilarious.

Count was a homage to Mr. Lee playing Count Dracula. Dooku means "poison" in Japanese. So it's pretty cool, from a certain point of view.

Blade vs. the vampire baddy at the end of "Blade II". Flying elbow drops from 20 feet in the air.

Dante vs. Randell in "Clerks". Dante gets slapped witha loaf of bread, rolls, or something.

O' Connell vs. The Scorpion King in "The Mummy Returns".

I've never seen "Catwoman", but Berry vs. Stone must be funny as hell.

Sarge vs. Reaper in "Doom".

Do you know what happens to a Stone when it's struck by a Berry?

The same thing that happens to everything else.

"you got a lot of guts ricky!!!!!"..... yes Riki - Oh could be the king of most ridiculous fight scenes ever....also shaolin soocer, along with kung fu hustle.... both super ridiculous shit ..... plus, I can't remember the name of the movie (another asian movie), but it has this insane fight scene where it is a sex battle and they are flying around the forest fucking each other in a crazy sex fight....shit....anyone? you have to see it to believe it....hilarious....

My friends and I waytched Dolemite when we were younger. There was a scene early in the movie when Dolemite was fighting, what I believe to be, three detectives. Besides the poor acting and one of the detectives inadvertently tripping over some hedges, you could see the sound mic hanging down from the top of the screen. We're still laughing about that one.

The end of Doom, with the the Rock and Karl Urban.
Hilarious and stupid.

The slo-mo slapfest between Xander and Harmony in an episode of Buffy.
It's not a fight scene, put when Forrest and the other dude are chasing Van Damme in "Bloodsport" it always reminds me of a Mentos commercial. Especially tha stupid song:

Every one you win
Everyone you lose
Blah, blah, blah
Everyone you choose
Every give and take
Etc, etc.

the vintage Sensei fight scenes tend to be good for a laugh because a) they're bigger mismatches than when the 400lb guy throws the 150lb guy around like a ragdoll on the wrestling shows, and b) the before/after dialogue model (e.g. "You wanna get by me? Let's see you get by meAAAGGGHHH MY FUCKING TEETH!!!" and "I'm gonna cut you man! I'm gonna cut your fuckOW MY FUCKEN EYE!!!" type stuff)

non Sensei... one fight scene I always found funny was Roger Moore's James Bond vs sumo wrestler- the sumo guy puts Bond in a bear hug, Bond frantically chops away at the sumo's love handles/backfat until he realizes that the only way to get the sumo to drop him is to twist his sumoknot like a vise
post #48 of 64
I've always thought the karate fight in the original version of The Manchurian Candidate was pretty funny. Oh, and when James Caan unconvincingly beats the tar out of the guy in The Godfather.
The scene in Airplane! when Robert Stack beats the shit out of all the people bugging him at the airport.

Excellent choice. I forgot all about that...time to break out the boxsets.
