Looking for suggestions for viewing, listening and surfing

Thread Starter
I herniated a disc in my neck in early September. Since then I've only been able to work about 1-2 days a week on average and spend the rest of the time in bed. I'm going to get neurosurgery in the next few weeks, which will require even more horizontal time spent alone.

Basically, as I am going out of my mind laying here, I was hoping for suggestions on DVDs to watch, CDs to listen to and websites to peruse. Seriously- I am nearly bored to death.

Thanks in advance

If you share Nick's tastes, I would suggest searching the archives for the Steady Leak articles. Towards the bottom, Nick has a segment where he recommends websites, books, CD, DVDs, etc. to check out.

I hope you get better soon!

Click the "Random" link on Wikipedia. It's amazing what turns up.

If you are on Pain Killers I always suggest Canadian Soft-Core lesbian porn....

However if you have a bit of space I might suggest a boardgame to take some of your time. I won't shill my own company...but I will direct you to some general info sites...

or

http://www.consimworld.com

I like war games but there are literally thousands of companies who make all types of games.

Music: Arcade Fire, Interpol, Killers, Franz Ferdinand – You want more upbeat stuff to keep your spirits up.

Games: Grand Theft Auto – San Andreas if you can find it. The game is huge and has all kinds of entertaining things to do.

Books: I’m reading Pandora’s Star now and it is pretty good. Part 2 comes out in January I think. Kind of a space based epic set in the future. It paints an interesting view of the human race in the future.

Learn something. I’m not sure what you are into. You can learn a language, or get a DVD private pilot training course (you will have to take flying lessons for the full license though) or take some kind of online course. You could plan a vacation.

TV on DVD: Wonderfalls, Farscape, Futurama, The Job, Home Movies, Coupling

Websites I like:
Cool Pics:

Cool stuff to read, especially the Apollo flight journals:

Read what it takes to make a cartoon for Adult Swim – Venture Brothers – Jackson Publick’s Blog:

NPR has a huge archive of stories. Check out Fresh Air and This American Life archives:

http://www.homestarrunner.com ought to consume an enormous amount of your time, and get you laughing. Start with the Shorts, or the Strong Bad emails.

Thanks for the suggestions- they should tide me over for awhile.

I've decided that I will also make a serious attempt at learning how to play the guitar (which should be interesting while lying down). I also just ordered the new Battlestar Galactica season so atleast I have that.

As for Anderson- you suggested Man in the High Castle- I loved that book ten years ago. Any other suggested Philip K Dick books?

Read The Devil in the White City.
I flew through it a few weeks ago. Great book.

And masturbate. Constantly.

If you're going to be laid up for weeks, and you have around 200 bucks to blow, and you've never watched the show, I'd recommend getting all five seasons of Angel and having a fang orgy. You'll go out of your mind.

Here's hoping you get better, man.
