Quick question

Do you look at post-release threads describing/discussing movies you haven't seen yet?

I must admit that I regularly used to do this a few years ago, but these days I like to steer clear and enjoy the movie without foreknowledge.

If it's something I really want to see, I'll avoid it, but it's hard -- sometimes there's a good two or three pages of discussion to wade through and a lot of points I would have made have already been touched on, so sometimes I just don't go in.

If I don't plan on seeing it, I'll read the thread and see if my mind can be changed.

Yeah, I agree with that, Richard.

I've sworn a vow to skip anything relating to Linklater's A Scanner Darkly, McTeigue's V for Vendetta and Aronofsky's The Fountain, but I know I'll have to cut my hand off with a saw to stop me from reading initial reaction.

Now, that's not to say I've never done a spoiler-wary scan to get a general feel for the reaction. I know I skimmed all the LOTR threads and the ROTS thread just to see what the vibe was, but I avoided anything that looked to be getting into specifics.

Then again, I was at the midnight show for all four of those films, so it was easy to get in early.

Yeah, I just wait until I had seen the movie.

I will go into a thread if it's something I have no interest in seeing though. Just to see if there's anything I'd be missing.

I've still not managed to watch A History of Violence (the missus has me paying pennance for a 48hr booze bender a fortnight ago) so that thread is like an itch I can't scratch.

I used to read them but i found my opinion of the film becoming jaded before i saw it in some cases. So, I try not to take a look untill after I have seen it. Although being in the UK that can be a month later sometimes.

I read them pretty heavily.

Probably why I never saw Batman Begins....

I did avoid the War of the Worlds one though.
