Almost Halloween

I'm watching the end of Halloween II right now (still good in spite of its slapped-togetherness - John Carpenter can't fail!), about to switch over to Hellraiser when this is over. Tomorrow night Masters of Horror starts with the Coscarelli/Lansdale episode. I'm probably going to watch two or more horror flicks over the weekend, then hopefully more on Halloween night. I love this time of year.

I find myself drawn to old B&W fare each Halloween. I guess I'm just a sucker for traditional bats on strings and haunted houses. This year i've been all about William Castle movies. Tingler is my fav.

Currently watching the Claude Rains PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. Moving to THE WOLF MAN after this.

Planning a heady post midnight showing of Return of the Living Dead, An American Werewolf in London and the Lost Boys myself.

I think I may have to revist a Nightmare on Elm Street 3 as well.

Over the weekend I think I may spin a couple of regulars (Evil Dead 2, Return of the Living Dead), a couple of Universal classics, and a couple of oddbal choices like Prince of Darkness and Abominable Dr. Phibes. Maybe some Asian stuff too.

Too much opera, not enough phantom.

This should always be a Halloween regular.

I watched my old tape of It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, follwed by Hellraiser on AMC while carving Jack O'Lanterns last night. I had forgotten how great Hellraiser is. In fact, I had forgotten pretty much everything about it (I was trying to remember the plot before watching it, and couldn't). It's so busy at work, and then I come home and put every second I have into getting ready for my Hallowe'en party Saturday, I'm probably going to be ready to go to bed by the time the party starts, but I've got great decorations all over the house, and it's worth it. Tonight: baking like a motherfucker (cupcakes, witch hat cookies, and sweet potato souffle).

Ah, this thread reminds me: I have to stop off after work today and pick up some apples and razor-blades.

Coscarelli's episode of Masters of Horror was brilliant. It's a great story and the production values, writing, acting, effects, direction and music were all superlative! Bravo! This series is God's friggin' gift! Stuart Gordon's next week looks genius. I'm in love!

It just isn't Halloween without Disney's Sleepy Hollow.

With a hip-hip and a clippity-clop...
