Wtf!?

After the amazing success of SHOPGIRL I'm stunned Steve Martin hasn't signed on to combine his crap hits and appear in BRINGING DOWN THE DOZEN.

SHOPGIRL is doing well.

Vegas has officially evened the odds on this movie being called "Cheaper by the Baker's Dozen."

It will continue to do well as long as it's on 42 screens, once it hits 50 you can stick a spork in it.

I have to honestly believe that BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE, CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN 1 and 2 and PINK PANTHER is part of some galactic payoff for Steve Martin to score an Infinity Gem or something. Otherwise, he's rich and well-respected... why fuck things up?

In Hollywood, you're only as good as your last opening. He has to constantly prove he can put asses in the seats in order to get financing for films like Shopgirl.
That's what I figure, anyway. Regardless of what he said in that last CHUD interview.

I can appreciate him balancing the small and the safe films, I respect that even if the small film is something I wouldn't watch on a bet. But I wish he'd try and do a little bit more when it came to the safe films. BOWFINGER wasn't fantastic but I'd much rather see him try and do a mainstream movie like that instead of the crap he has been shoveling as of late.

Are you kidding? I'd rather be forced to watch Parenthood on a loop Clockwork Orange style than sit through even the preview for this film.

I find PARENTHOOD both humorous and touching. I'm glad I could finally get that off my chest.

I wonder what has become of that adorable child who played Cool in the film?

I liked "Parenthood" also. But Martin's recent attempts at family comedy have been pure shit.

Agreed, not sure if it looked as though I approved of Martin's recent work but God knows I don't. He should be able to make mainstream films that are actually funny but he's not which is sad.

As for PARENTHOOD, oh Jason Robards, can't you see that Tom Hulce is scamming you. Wake up old man!
I liked certain parts of Parenthood... they didn't include any of Rick Moranis' screen time, any of Steve Martin's baseball memories, any scene that involved small children really. No actually, the vibrator at dinner is pretty funny. And Keanu Reeves giving parenting advice, priceless.

I find it horrifying that the first movie basically said, "It's okay to have twelve children because you'll learn about love and the importance of family." Such an absurd pro-family fantasy.

What's even worse is the Rene Russo/Dennis Quaid Yours, Mine, and Ours, a movie that involves 15 little hellspawns. In what known universe do contraceptives apparently not exist?

America is wild about fertility!

I STILL think they should have incorporated Devin's article tagline regarding this dreck into the actual title. Imagine for a second:

"Cheaper by the Dozen 2: Steve Martin punches your balls off."

That is a title I can get behind. It could be the new "Die Hard 2: Die Harder"

Well, apparently, since YOUR'S MINE AND OUR'S is a remake, in the new one, for political correctness, Russo adopts a few minority kids. So I guess we're more chaste now.

Also, YOUR'S, MINE AND OURS would be an indefinitely better movie if one of the leads was actually of mixed heritage. Could they have cast two whiter people than Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo?

I blame The Brady Bunch.

I think Steve Martin doesn't really care about most of his acting gigs these days, it's just how he pays for his writing. Pure Drivel is the funniest thing I have ever read, and I hear that he has penned several well-received plays and novellas.

I respect a guy who manipulates the corporate bowel that is our modern mainstream movie industry in order to finance his personal works of art. I wish I knew how to do that.
