Eternal Darkness

Easily one of my favourite games of all time. And without a doubt one of the best games on the cube.

Just started replaying this little masterpiece and even after years of ownership it has the power to mess with my head. In this case I was happily walking down a corridor when my characters head fell off and when I picked it up it started reciting Shakespeare.

This time I’m in it for the long run, three play throughs to get that elusive hidden ending.

Eternal Darkness is one of those games that can really suck you into its universe just through its magnificent story and dark sense of humour. The actual gameplay still holds up pretty well. It’s pretty basic but the different weapons still have a real nice feel to them. Before Eternal Darkness I never fought I would panic when I lost a bastard sword in favour of a shotgun. But this game makes you really appreciate each and every weapon in your inventory. Also the magick is funky as hell.

Yeah, I second the love. Great game, I wish they'd make a sequel.

This is one of those games I regret having traded in. I'd love to give it another run-through...

They have a stack of these for $15 new at Hastings. I keep balking at buying it, though. It's probably one of those things that I'll regret never picking up, right?

I'd say it's a must-play Gamecube title. One of the best offerings on that platform, in my humble.

One of two games I've ever beaten. The other was the original Rampage for the NES. I do plan on beating Shadow of the Colossus, though.

The best thing about the game was that it was immersive enough that people enjoyed watching it too...I had three friends that watched me play from beginning to end over the course of a few weeks. Awesome stuff. Great ending too, especially when the firefighter drops off the sword for Alexandra....my favorite moment for sure.

Destined to be one of my all-time favorites. A bit too fetch-repetitive toward the end, but otherwise a near-masterpiece. I love the little things about the game, like listening to Maximillian Roivas' increasingly raving autopsy results, the subtler sanity effects (bleeding walls, skittish reactions, firing your gun at nothing without any controller input). I find myself walking along the ceiling too often (and getting bored waiting for my character to wise up) but always cheer inside when I see the spiders on the screen or the Blue Screen of Death. The best moment of the game, for me, was on my first play through. When playing as the monk, Paul Luther, I knew what was coming at the end of the chapter. Or so I thought. I powered up my crossbow and cast spells of protection, etc., and entered the final chamber. Well, those who've played the game know well what happened next.

Quick tip for anyone playing through for the first time: you would do well to choose Ulyaoth (the blue one) when it comes to it, as subsequent enemies will drain magic (which replenishes with moviement) rather than health or sanity (which also eventually drains health).

Also of note: according to wikipedia, Nintendo has copyrighted the "sanity meter". Does this affect the recent Call of Cthulhu game at all?
