Masters of Horror on showtime - Page 2

I liked Carpenter's quite a bit, but you could make a drinking game out of the number of times "Le Fin Absolue du Monde" is spoken. And it's weird how this series seems to find puffy versions of formerly scrawny actors...

Carpenters was by far my favorite so far. Interesting concept, fairly well acted, and played it straight the whole time. It managed to make me not obsess over the odd plot problems (e.g. The movie seemed fairly easy to find by just heading towards the widow - Why hadn't Udo Kier done that years ago?), so all in all, an enjoyable experience.

Nothing new until after the Holiday break. Hopefully this sets a precedent on the quality to come.

Very hit or miss so far and nothing has been the homerun I was hoping for. Dante's was by far my favorite so far. One of the most clever attacks on the Bush regime that I've seen. Dante seemed pretty inspired. Plus, who doesn't love seeing Ann Coulter shot in the head?
Argento's was the most balls out so far and probably the one I enjoyed the most besides Dante's. Carpenter's was very good, but felt a little rehashed. Still, nice to see him do something decent. I liked Gordon's a lot too. Nice, fun cheese.
On the bad side, Coscarelli's was too formulaic to me. It started out good and could have been a scary survival story, but it ended up being pretty tired. Some described Garris' as a bad Hitchhiker episode and that's a perfect description. Not interesting at all. Hooper's was the worst so far. Totally unwatchable as far as I'm concerned.
Falling in the middle is Landis'. It was a damn good episode, but I have to agree with Davis on the ending. It baffled me. I don't have a clue as to what happened or what I was supposed to get out of that. Although, I'm willing to side with Matchstick on it if he can come up with another good Benben pun.
Didn't know Miike was doing an episode, so that has me excited. Also juiced to see a reunion with Lucky McKee and Angela Bettis.

For those of you who've given up on this series, I highly recommend the episode that ran tonight. "Fair-Haired Child" I think it's the best one so far! It's exactly what I had hoped this series would deliver from the beginning! Just Straight Scary Monster horror done with style! I loved it!

These dvds are awesome little sets. Finally got a chance to see Carpenter's Cigarette Burns and fucking loved it.

There's a lot of nice little extras on the discs- cover all of his films pretty well. The only problem is that there's a lot of repeated material (I don't know if you know this film called Halloween that he did that was apparently big?) between all the featurettes. But it's a really good look at his career- and a John Carpenter Commentary is worth the price of any of his movies.

Great shit. I'm going to check out the other one (Stuart Gordan's) when I get a chance, and get reviews up before the release next tuesday. But it looks like they did a great job with these dvds so far.

Here they are-

Cigarette Burns
Dreams in the Witch-House

I love these discs.... I really do. They're great looks at the director's work, and it looks like they're all going to have roughly the same content. I still don't really like how they're staggering out the releases like this, but oh well... I'm sure they will release a box set eventually.

I didn't see all of the episodes on Showtime, but I did see cigarette burns, and I loved it. I picked that up on dvd along with dreams in the witch house which I hadn't seen yet. Some strong subject matter aside, it was a good episode. I'll be getting incident on and off a mountain road when it comes out. I never saw that one or chocolate, and I heard a lot of bad things about chocolate, so I'm going to pass on that one. I like how they're releasing them, this gives me the opportunity to buy the ones that I want, and there aren't that many of those.

Anytime you want, as long as you own the DVD's.

Best Buy had a nice little display for Carpenter's CIGARETTE BURNS when I went there today. I haven't seen that episode (or any of them for that matter - don't subscribe to Showtime), but I'll have to go back and pick that particular DVD up. Even if I don't end up liking the film itself, the retrospective on Carpenter should be worth the cash alone.

This kinda shit turns me off from going to the site, even if it is somewhat cool. Fucking shills.

My Deer Woman review.

On a side note- got the screener of Dante's Homecoming yesterday- they completely changed around the art for that one. Funny. Kinda ruins the continuity of the set- but the spine is still the same, so it'll look good on your shelves...

I'd like to see The Washingtonians episode. If they do it, what could be better then a cannibalistic George Washington.

Nothing really.

Do they have the episode descriptions available yet for this season or is it just those titles/crew bits thus far? Whatever the case, hooray for Ted Raimi.

I'm late. "Cigarette Burns" is LOTS of talking, Jesus. Good thing there's VO as well. When, 7 minutes in, a character says "I have to show you something", I was really grateful.

I am happy about the forthcoming R2 boxset.
Unspeakably so.
