What a fantastic thread. I've laughed and I've shuddered...and not from masturbating.

Capt., did you really lose your job from porn? Caught looking at it at work or was it some addiction that led to some unhealthy obsessions?

Fascinating.
What of the scads of people who utilize pornography and don't develop a habit and don't lose their job? This brings up a serious and interesting issue of mental health. Are they the same as the people who drink on occasion and don't become alcoholics? Or the ones who burn weed and that doesn't lead to a heroin habit? Can porn be used responsibly by those who are capable or is it across the board a negative? As far as objectifying women, I have no doubt that some of it does but can objectifying women also be art ala Roy Stuart or Richard Kern. Though I will admit on the surface Kern's art seems objectifying, but the models below the surface project an air of power that is undenyable. Opinions?
We're not talking about people that like the occasional bit of porn. We're talking about people to whom it's important enough to be considered a hobby, or as part of their lifestyle.
True, but where does it cross the line? I am neither condemning or praising at this point. Just curious. To qualify I am for casual porn usage as voiced in an earlier post, but I guess I'd be considered a minority as I am in a long term relationship and the lady appreciates porn, in its place, as much as I do.
I dunno. In my opinion (just MY opinion - not trying to be judgemental), porn is cool when you use it as a means to an end. And that end usually takes about 20 minutes to reach. Also, when couples use it as a supplement.
That's healthy and normal.

But anything above that ranges from a little creepy to downright obsessive. Like when you just watch porn. Like just sit there and watch it. That's kinda weird. Or if you have 100 favorite pornstars, or if you spend as much time in the porn store as you do in Blockbuster. Also, if you're unable to masturbate without it - you kinda need to cut back.

But like I said - that's just my opinion.

I know a gentleman who has a very unhealthy obsession w/ human garbage disposal Ava Devine and he often gleefully and graphically describes the myriad of putrid things he'd do to her. Needless to say he has issues w/ women and has a habit of embellishing his real life interactions w/ them, I try not to judge the man, as I've engaged in some *questionable acts* myself, but I also try not to gag when ever he goes into a blue tirade.

Persistent usage of porn isn't healthy at all, but that's for the user to figure out and deal with. Judging it soley from the perspective of a personal kink, I couldn't give a shit what someone does w/ their naughty bits or how often they do it; their perogative.

Positive sides

At least see the positive sides
It refrains man from going to brothels atleast and it also encourages mustarbation which is good for health
but it is only advisable not to do it over limit and not to get obsessed with it
post #60 of 148
The fact that there are people who are willing to come out and defend pornography as a perfectly valid hobby completely devoid of creepiness is why I love the internet.

I printed out some choice pictures. Due to the mysteries of Windows printing they landed on my bosses printer not mine. She didn't appreciate it.

You should send that anecdote to Reader's Digest.
Actually I think the creepiest thing in this thread is the comments about wanting people to die for something they have posted on a message board.

As for the topic in hand (no pun intended) I know people with huge collections of the stuff who are pretty normal and have girlfriends. Me I find most of it pretty boring, but the titles are always funny.
Anybody familiar with the comic Peep Show by Joe Matt? He has parts in that where he draws and writes of himself making video comps of his favorite fuck scenes by recording VCR to VCR. That's a little obsessive. I also have no desire to stand in line to meet nor see a porn chick at a strip joint, so I get ya. Some buddies of mine stood in line to meet Ron Jeremy, but kinda trancended porn to become pop culture icon.
I get that this is about me. For the record, I am not a porn addict or something. It's never gotten in the way of work, and all my girlfriends haven't minded at all. As far as naming them, they are professionals in a mass media art form of sorts, one that's fairly askew to the mainstream. I would relate it to knowing the names of all reality TV stars or serial killers... it's just harmless minutiae. I'd say it's a step up from watching porn in a manner that makes the female performer ambiguous, and therefore feeds into that "woman as cum bucket" theory. I don't watch rape porn, I don't appreciate the Max Hardcore school of thoroughly humiliating the woman, and I don't get down with beastiality and underage porn. I think it's perfectly harmless in the way that, when my IPod isn't working, I'll hum a cool movie score on the way to work, no matter how esoteric.

Since we all danced around it, yes, this was about me. I do post pornstar death news, I did make a list of my 100 favorites... but it's not unhealthy.

When i discovered Peepshow about 10 years ago i thought it was hilarious.
But after rereading them recently i didn´t find anything funny about them, Joe Matt is just disturbing.
He is clearly a talented person who should do create som real comix instead of telling us about his pathetic addictions to porn and masturbation.
Joe Matt is truly addicted to porn. The fact that he manages to produce one comic every few years is nothing short of miraculous at this point.
He's the Howard Hughes of comix.

Yeah, but they're not real comix. Not like those awesome Nightmare on Elm Street books done by Avatar. Now THAT'S graphic literature!
I don't think I've seen an issue of Peep Show in quite some time. Yeah he should make real comics, fuck that visceral shit about complex relationships and human foible. Who need that shit? Seriously if all you see in Peep Show is porn and masturbation you should probably read them more than every 10 years.

I don't get that, at all.

Do you shed a noble tear in her honour as you spray a thick arc of sticky paste into your hand? Do you think of her, looking down from heaven at your hunched shoulders and ecstatic grimace as you shudder your way to a lonely orgasm? Do you think "This is what she would've wanted" as you pump relentlessly towards release, eyes fixated on the tiny pixel representation of her cold, dead pussy?

Weird. And, yes, creepy.
I do have to say, the detail in which you described such a scene is pretty fucking creepy too. You could have just said "Jerking off to a picture of a dead chick as if it were some sort of memorial is fucked up." but you had to detail it to such a bizarre extent. Very funny, but very creepy.

I'm glad you came in here to defend yourself as the thread was obviously created by Devin to try and put you down, which is a very immature thing for someone to do who basically runs this site now. Porn is like any other consumer product. Everyone has different tastes. Thats why I know the names of certain "stars". While it's possible I could just jerk off to anything female thats not too fat or ugly (I guess), it's more enjoyable to see a woman that fits my type. Maybe your the one with the problem Devin. Your posts certainly read that way.

Also it's really stupid to state that anyone should kill themselves. Whether it be on a message board or in person, a joke or for real. I'd say you owe fabfunk an apology, and an apology to anyone else you were intending that remark towards. It's too bad Nick isn't around anymore. I enjoyed his writing much more than yours Devin. If you choose to insult your readership on a regular basis and do childish things like start threads to debase others then I hope your ready for this site to fail. I hope you continue to enjoy the sound of your own voice as much as you do now, because it will be the only thing left on these boards.

Maybe you can get a job teaching English Compisition after the site loses all it's readeship because YOU'RE such a shitstack.

Did I spell that correctly, shitstack?

Thanks for not answering me in any meaningful way, and instead pointing out my mistakes in grammar on a fucking message board (like it matters here).

I would like a full list of what does and doesn't matter here.

And a) only perverts would be bothered by this thread and b) a lot more people read the site than read the boards. This is a small amount of our traffic.

Your opinion as to how much masturbation, and/or porn interest, is healthy, doesn't matter.

Your opinion as to the interviews you have with various Hollywood types, does matter.

I find your attitude that "some people should kill themselves" bothersome, your opinion that this "makes me a pervert", doesn't matter.

Others can take the list from here.

Joe Matt´s friends Chester Brown and Seth both used to make
autobiographical comics, but have now moved on to do comics that are a bit more serious.
So should Joe Matt.
Autobiographical comics are serious. Let the man do the comics he feels like doing. You don't have to read them.

I once had a girl over to my place, and I hid what little porn I had.
When she came over, she thought it was weird that I didn't have any porn laying around. I had to drag it back out and show it to her to prove I was a "normal" guy. Odd.

Devin, you are an asshole. You are the reason I won't come back to this site. So fuck you, good bye, good riddance.

I'm only vaguely aware of a few porn stars. Like, Ron Jeremy and Jenna Jameson are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head. To the guys on the "it's creepy" side of the argument, I was wondering:

When Ron Jeremy came to debate the right- or wrongness of porn on campus with the president of the Pornography Kills Women Group (or something), I most definitely went to see the debate, then stood in a short line to get a picture with him. When anybody - guy or gal - sees the picture of Ron Jeremy and me, they think it's awesome.

Would you guys have gone to see him and got a photo, or was that creepy?

A friend of mine, female, was at a wedding in New York years back. Ron Jeremy was an uncle of the groom, and was in attendance.

He took photos with people at the reception and my friend got one with him. She to this day has it on her desk and its an insane conversation starter.

EVERYONE wants to know the story behind it...
Ron Jeremy's sort of a pop culture icon these days. Everybody knows who he is, practically.

Indeed, I went to one of those. Jeremy was a nice, warm guy, but he unleashed on me his concerns about the government regulating porn when I mistakenly wore an FBI hat. We were cool afterwardes and I got a picture, but, y'know, we were on a college campus and... ladies, he's really grabby.

What an odd thing to say. First of all, as already noted, seth and Chester's autobio stuff is completely serious.
I'm also wondering what it is you think Joe Matt would be more proficient at. The only thing he's really done outside of Peepshow is color Batman over ten years ago. So there's no evidence that he's missing a calling to another genre. What is it you think he would be better suited for?

I'd only wait in line to see him if I enjoyed watching his work. And like someone said earlier in the thread: People who watch porn, not to masturbate, but just to watch it, are creepy.

HBO Preps 'Poor Bastard' Series
Tue Apr 27, 2004 02:17 AM ET

By Andrew Wallenstein

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - HBO is teaming up with one of the creators of "Futurama" to develop a potential series based on the cult comic book "The Poor Bastard."

The book, also known as a "graphic novel," was written by artist Joe Matt, based on his own life experiences. Among the myriad woes he contends with in his romantic life is an addiction to pornography.

David X. Cohen, who developed "Futurama" with "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening, would serve as executive producer alongside "Simpsons" scribe Donick Carey and Matt.

Although HBO has yet to see a script, the premium channel was hooked on the concept for the series, which could blend live-action and animation in a manner similar to the HBO Films theatrical release "American Splendor." Like "Splendor" protagonist Harvey Pekar, Matt recounts his frustrations with relationships in unsparing detail.

Ok, there´s nothing wrong with Peepshow, autobiograhical comics are serious.
What i find disturbing and sad are the issues where he shows us his obsession with porn and masturbation.

Although i did like the Fair Weather story.
