That's so sad. What a useless way to die. I saw him speak at a Fango convention once - he was a neat guy. RIP...

I was 4 years old when I first saw Halloween.
What a awesome thrill it was. I remember when I was 5, and saw The Fog for the first, followed shortly thereafter by Carpenter's remake of the Thing. Three benchmark movies in my life, all directed by John Carpenter.
If it's hadn't been for Mr. Akkad, Carpenter's career might have been dead in the water and these three films (and subsqent sequels), might have never gotten off the ground. Halloween was really my first foray into horror and it left an everlasting effect in my heart for all things of the genre. Whether it's greatness like Halloween or Hellraiser, or complete camp crap like House of the Dead, I try to find something I could appreciate about a horror flick, unlike other genres (admittedly, there are a few I just could find nothing to enjoy about).
Thank you, Moustapha Akkad, for helping to foster that love. I hope you can now find the peace that you and your daughter you were not able to enjoy in the last few moments of your life.
