Say what you will about Carano's MMA skills, but she's a badass muy thai kickboxer. She's been to Thailand several times and won/defended titles over there. She was one of the trainers on a reality show a few years back (before she got into MMA) that featured a group of female kickboxers, where the main guy took the top 2-3 over to Thailand to face their best.

That Cyborg chick could beat some of the guy MMA fighters out there. She's fucking frightening.

Where was she at when it came time to fight for the belt against Cyborg? Strikeforce put their stock in her for the face of female MMA. Please. Cyborg is what I call a fighter. Also, Carano may be a badass Muay Thai fighter and whatever - but this is MMA and this is now, not then and/or Thailand. She had her chance to prove what she's all about and there was one nano second left on the clock. The fight was stopped.
Carano just got beat by a better fighter. She's had some issues like making weight consistently, but being a bad fighter isn't one of them. She's just not as good as Cyborg.

And she seems to have gone the Roger Huerta route and parlayed her looks and in-ring success to try her hand at an acting career.

Um, in the cage facing her opponent?

Everyone loses at some point.

Looks like Brock cares about his MMA training and wants to improve.

UFC card starting in about 10 minutes.

I got Hamill over Jardine
McGee over McCray
Aaron Simpson over Chris Leben
And Spencer Fisher over Dennis Siver.
That was an absolute WAR between Hamill and Jardine. I really like Matt Hamill and was definitely glad he won.
Well I clearly suck at picking tonight. I was really suprised that Leben was able to not spend that fight on his back. I missed Hamill and Jardine, just caught the decision announcement.

Hamill could be a really interesting fighter if he could better sharpen his standup skills.
I thought Siver's face was a bloody mess during round 1 and then Jardine just had to go and steal all that thunder looking like he came off a horror movie set during most of the 3rd in his fight. Considering how battered he got by a guy with really rudimentary standup compared to the rest of the LHW division (and apparently was fighting with a staph infection), I don't see much of a future left for Jardine, which is just crazy for a guy that beat 3 former champions.

ETA: I mean 2 former champions and a split with Rampage that he could have just as easily been handed.

Really glad Court won.

I posted this bit in the B Action Thread. It deserves another post.

UFC CHAMP SILVA GETS POINTERS FROM ACTION STAR STEVEN SEAGAL

LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's see what happens come August 7th in Oakland. Fuck the Brock/Carwin card -- I want to witness this murder show instead. Well I'm hoping Anderson will put Chael Sonnen to the task and whoop that ass.
lol I don't think Sonnen's going to win, but he's going to sell the shit out of this fight. And I just hope Anderson DOES SOMETHING this time around.

"Mr. Seagal's impressive record of victories against bored stuntmen who are paid to lose makes his criticism particularly stinging," he tweeted.

Sonnen doesnt stand a chance. Hopefully Anderson will actually show up for this fight, instead of just essentially mailing it in.
Wanderlei's off the July card, Chris Leben fills in vs Sexyama.

This is very disappointing. Was hoping to see Wandy and Carwin knock some heads back to back..

On the 10th anniversary of the 2000 Pride Grand Prix, Jake Rossen at Sherdog has two great articles up today:

Pride Before the Fall (The Yakuza connection that destroyed Pride)

Pride and Glory (The story of the 2000 Grand Prix as told by those who were there)

Both are worth a read.

Def great read. Thanks. Yakusa ain't to be fucked with. Dana White had some nasty bits to say about them not too long ago. Dana White himself is protected because of the Ferritta's, one would assume with all the money they have and means for protection. Plus, White has the media if shit goes down in any way.

Pride Middleweight GP 2003 is fucking awesome.
Fedor vs. Werdum this weekend, I have Fedor by KO.

On that note, Fedor's fight versus Brett Rogers is free on XBox's dashboard. It looks choppy as shit for some reason and I forgot how much the announcers were really really trying to hype Rogers up in this fight. After rewatching it I don't see how anyone thought Fedor was having any real trouble with Rogers.

The KO punch Fedor hit Rogers with is crazy. He didn't even wind it up and he landed it with one leg off the mat.
Definitely Fedor by KO. Werdum doesnt have the standup to match Fedor.

Sengoku is on tonight as well.

RE: FEDOR FIGHT & THE LESNAR/CARWIN FIGHT

It's interesting to note that we have Fedor fighting this Saturday night and then just a week later we have a fucking ''HEAVYWEIGHT'' monster of a fight. Recent interviews indicate that Fedor is very open to coming to the UFC and it'll depend on the negotiations on UFC's part.

IMHO: No fighter is immune to the branding of UFC. This is where the big boys play and I'm sensing that Fedor knows it too. If he does come to the UFC, his stock will rise higher and his title as the "The Last Emperor'' will be fucking amazing. 1 million PPV buys on each card he's featured on and it will all be fucking exciting to see. Also, there will be an inside rivalry in the UFC HW division to see if they can dethrone Fedor in which will make for exciting drama. Lastly, Overeem has stated interest in the UFC. If he comes over as well. Damn, it's going to be crazy.
If Fedor ever does come to the UFC, it'll be interesting to see who they put him in with first. Lesnar/Carwin for an immediate title shot? Feed him a gatekeeper like Kongo so the average fan can see his skills first without risking his "aura", or an actual top contender like JDS?

Not holding my breath on the idea though.

And that PRIDE 2000 GP article is just incredible. Great, great read.
Fedor isnt coming to the UFC. I will be REALLY amazed if he does. The UFC refuses to co-promote...and the only way Fedor will end up in the UFC is if they change that. Co-promotion is something that M-1 wont step back from.
Fedor by 1st round knockout.
Cung Le by decision

Competitive matchup. War Cuddles.
Oh shit...Cyborg just had a point taken away for illegal strikes to the back of the head. Wont matter though...Cuddles is getting knocked out.
Cyborg is the real life TERMINATOR! I fucking love her.
Honestly...there are no female fighters that can beat Cyborg. Put her in against some Bantamweight or Flyweight men. (yes I know by weight class she would be in Featherweight)

Indeed. She showed massive heart. IMHO: She fared better than Carano.

She definitely did. And she made it out of the first round...Carano couldnt even manage that
post #2638 of 3678
I hate Frank Shamrock.
Special appearance by Channing Tatum as CUNG LE'S WATERBOY!

Shamrock needs to go away. Replace him with someone who has personality like Bas Rutten.

As for Cyborg, Strikeforce needs to get out there and find her some serious competition. She's just running through everyone.

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And somehow, SF will still make Overeem-Fedor before Overeem-Werdum.
HOLY SHIT! He ain't untouchable. WTF are you gonna do now Fedor? I don't give a fuck. His mystique is fucking gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Has Fedor's nose always been that messed up, or is it something he hasn't fixed since the Rogers fight?

I was surprised Fedor was so sloppy and wild on the ground. He ignored the fact that he almost got caught in a triangle and then actually got caught in one seconds later. Looked like he was in a rush to finish the fight and get back to Mother Russia.

Wow. I am really regretting not making the effort to find a friend with Showtime to watch this. Unbelievable.
Dana White is going to have a field day w/ this shit. More ammo for him. Also, ya'll see Overeem's face. LOL!

Werdum is now the MAN to beat. He finished Fedor in proper fashion. If he gets the SF HW belt from Overeem - then it will truly be his time.
Huge win for Werdum. Biggest win of his career for sure.

As for why Fedor fought like that, he always has. He did the same thing against Big Nog, he just drives into people's guard and tries to smash them.

For anyone with any real sense of reality 1 legitimate defeat over a 10 year career should mean very little. I'd still rank him as the best HW in the sport by a rather significant margin.

Lesnar is still too much of an unknown at this point to take that crown and I think Cain Velasquez probably has the best chance of wearing that crown next.

Really liked what Cung Le did there in his fight, he paced himself a lot better and beat Smith up again and didn't gas while doing it. I really hope there isn't a 3rd match. Let both guys move on and fight other competition.

Good win for Josh Thomson as well. I always enjoy watching him fight.
The majority of the MMA world were writing off Werdum as a nobody. In the fight game anything goes. Werdum proved it tonight and was very humble. Nonetheless, this is big-time clout when it comes to sponsorships and talking money for Werdum. Underdog swagger. Never count them out.

EDIT: Also, TAPOUT wanted to sponsor Fedor - but UFC was going to ban them for life if they did. Man, they'd be funny shit had TAPOUT sponsor Fedor and we all know what happened tonight.
