Devin, is this the last round? I put a story in today and don't see it.

Sorry, didn't mean to be stupid. I just wasn't sure if that meant another round of stories or the final voting round for all of the batch winners.

Also, just from glancing through, I can tell this is the best batch yet. Thanks.

Okay, edited after a further glance. Most of the stories on this run seem shorter. Some good stuff, but nothing on par with one or two of the exceptional earlier stories. I'm going with Gary Anderson 'cause I like his voice here.

Fascinated by Ms. Freeman, but the sustained narrative in "Jenny of Midnight" was pretty tass. I'm a sucker for full stories.

Looks like we'll be facing off in the final round, Dr. Necessiter. You know, it occurs to me that there have been a few gems published so far, and that the best of the entries are as good or better than the story ideas in the Masters of Horror series. It makes it a real shame that more people aren't reading and voting.

Not to dismiss anyone else's story, but Jenny was great. Very well done.

Again, good job to everyone who entered.
Yeah, Jenny was good. Morich74, I'm sort of hoping that the last batch will be the best, as folks will have taken some time on those...dunno. My guess is that the first batch or two are mostly stories that people either threw together willy nilly or already had on the hard drive somewhere...Not that I could say much different. It's not like I wrote a second draft.

Yeah, a few gems with central concepts strong enough to be fleshed out into something more, for sure.

I read on the initial page that they would STOP TAKING entired on Tuesday, the 22nd, which is a bummer for people like me who procrastinate.

Hopefully this next batch will consist of the stagglers' stories, and a big thanks to Devin for accepting them late.

Not only that, but a big thanks to Devin for organizing this whole thing. Thumbs up to you too, guy.
Actually, the official rules say that entries stopped at 11:50 on Nov. 23rd. So you should be good.
Ok, continuing the stupid question querries...does "one more round to go" mean one more round AFTER this one, or this IS the one more round to go?

Because I proof'ed a friend's story before he sent it in the early evening of the 22nd, and it's not in there, so I'm assuming it's the former, and not the latter.

isn't this thread supposed to be for discussing the 3rd batch of stories?

perhaps a new thread should be opened to answer questions from the contest.

i had written my story about a year ago, then i lost it. but i found it again recently, and had been working on tightening it up. then this contest came along and gave me a reason to keep editing it. i think the grammar and spelling are pretty much perfect in it. did i miss anything?

ps. i was refering to my story: performance art.

Except that we're responding to something Devin said in this thread, and we tend to get yelled at for starting new threads to address one question.

Damned either way.

There's a big batch coming real soon with 11 more stories. THAT'LL be the final round, fyi.
Thanks!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled discussion, already in progress.

11 stories?!?! Sweet.

it's hard to really compare alot of the stories that have come in so far. there have been anecdotes, works of flash fiction, stories of up to 3 thousand words...a big spectrum.

a short story is a fairly damned hard thing to write well, I think, and I give anyone who tries to complete a story thought credit (Jenny, etc...), but I adore some of the "true" anecdotes, too...also, I like stories like floater and such, but they just seem so common that it's hard to got very much excited about them. reading is half fun and half pain in the ass and I like to leave a read feeling like the citizen of a larger world...

maybe I'll just vote on titles...

Sucks for me then. 'Pool Party' is the only title I could find at the dry bottom of the quarry pit where any sense of inspiration had been mined out long ago.
"Pool Party" sounds interesting, anyway. Anybody know when they are posting the next round of entries?
"really soon"....
My vote went to 'headstrong'- I thought it was a tight little story with an interesting premise. 'Jenny' also seemed to be well written.

The Al Jolsen story will haunt me far into my twilight years. 'Nuff said.
I'm gonna go with Jenny on this one. : - )

well....

It looks like I've only garnered a few votes, so I don't suppose my "Ghost Story" is gonna win. lol

I would say it's just an honor to be nominated but I wasn't actually nominated, it was "submit and be nominated" so to speak.

So um...yeah.
