Does streaming movies to the 360 take up any HD space? I figure since the service is available on my 360, why not try it.
You have to sign up on both the 360 AND the netflix site.

It gives you a free trial, but I never saw how long that lasts.

So far the movies I've put in my queue have only been dvd quality not HD. I've put a few from the "HD" section in my queue also, but the few I have there also look DVD quality.

If anybody knows of a title that actually looks like HD quality please share.

Edit: To add I just noticed my "determining video quality" only hits 2 out of 4 bars most of the time. I guess that's probably the issue with my video quality being poorer.

Yeah, if your internet connection truly blows, you won't get as good a resolution out of the HD titles.

That said, Pan's Labyrinth looked really nice (though a bit short of Blu Ray), and from all accounts, any of the NBC stuff (especially Heroes) looks fantastic.

Heroes was never fantastic.

So I'm unable to update my Netflix queue tonight at all. I'm assuming it's something to do with the Xbox deal. Kind of sucks because as they've been getting ready to stream more movies, they've actually removed some from my queue that have gone from DVDs you can receive to being streaming only and I wanted to add those back in. Now that I have a regular queue and an instant queue I'm anal retentive enough to want to do this RIGHT NOW which of course ain't happening.

I dig the changes - my background is totally obsured with the new screens, so I hope they change that a bit..overall, I love the changes

Cannot wait to download Mass Effect to the HDD - I hope it helps texture speeds and the like!!!

I never had a "queue" in Instant View until now. I mean, why would you? It's Instant View. The only reason this queue even exists now is that you have to designate the films on your pc connection to Netflix for them to show up on Live. In other words, there's no option to browse Instant View from your 360, you have to set up a list on your pc and cull from that. Not a big deal at all, and I love the box art selection method, but still.

I was already paying for Netflix and Xbox Live, this is like a huge free value-add that just makes me happy as hell.
I figured out my issue. Apparently Netflix is so broken with Firefox that you can't update queues any longer. You always had to switch over to IE if you wanted to stream movies, but everything else used to work. Not any more. You have to use IE to do pretty much anything.

Netflix works through the 360.

You download the set-top app. Then, you get a code that you have to take to netflix.com/activate

That takes a few moments and then you're good to go.

Also, sorry A Lively. I'm not sure whether I accidentally invited you into GOW2 or if you did me.

It appears my Vizio is eating this issue too. Nice. No sound at all though either HDMI port, and all supposed fixes...don't.

I've tried several times to validate my Netflix code, but to no avail.

For those of you who have activated their Netflix accounts on the NXE...do you need for both the Xbox and your PC to be online at the same time?

The reason I ask this is because I don't have a router, so I've been getting the code from Xbox live, switching out the ethernet cables, and going to the Netflix site to activate the code on my PC. I wonder if the Netflix validation needs to "Talk" to the 360 before validating.

I'd hate to shell out $80 for a router I don't need just to activate this Netflix thing.

I would think that both your PC and Xbox would have to be online at the same time.

Maybe you could take it over to a buddy's house that has a router.

Here is my Sort-Of-Me-Ish little guy:

Got everything up and running pretty fast, so that was great. I even took the time to install Gears of War 2 to the hard drive... Sooooo quiet. Me like very much. Didn't spend a lot of time with it all, but it seems like the transition will be easy enough.

I don't dig the idea of being chrged for 'Premium' themes that actually look like they'll change the backgrounds where all your friends show up (among other things), but then again they always sold other themes that I never bought too.

Speaking of themes though, does anybody know how to change them now? A Gears theme I was using carried over pretty well but I wanted to change it and check out some of the others I already had, but for the life of me I couldn't find where to do it...

ETA: I noticed that when you've got your avatar on the screen you can rotate the right stick quickly to make him/her dizzy. Quickly going left and right on the stick will make them put on an angry face, and going up and down seems to make their eyes go wider... nothing super exciting, but still kind of neat.

Me, my wife and two kids in all our virtual glory. Nick's is almost eerie...

Well, my girlfriend got a chance to play around with the avatar creator last night and her biggest complaint is that she only gets to create one. One of her favorite things about using the Wii at a friend's house sitting around making Miis (don't ask me why).

The 360 doesn't allow you to make a little stable of Avatars though. Every Avatar you you make has to be linked to a specific user profile so she can't just sit around making them for fun.
This Netflix thing is awesome -- I've already got a dozen titles queued up, mostly TV series, and it's great that you can just leave titles sitting there.

As for the avatars, as I scroll through my Friends list, I see different backgrounds behind them. How do you set that for yourself?
Digging the NXE so far. I love the party system. That's a neat feature. Also love the little avatar guys. Playing Scene-IT BOS with my girl's and I's avatars is neat.

Fingerless gloves. The sign of a bad ass.

I am the spitting image of my avatar.
I love the update - just love it.
Am I a badass if I wear them because I live in MN, it's fucking cold out, and I'm a smoker? Or is it's just function over fashion on my end? Which I'm okay with.
Overlord's reaction alone was worth posting that. I'm in the same boat as you Rob, if it gets cold I go with fingerless because it's easier to smoke.
Exactly. Now if you wear them indoors with a short sleeve shirt, then something is wrong. Haha.

ok, so im late to the thread. are you able now to download full games to your hard-drive? and if so is there a price difference?
The only people I picture wearing fingerless gloves are fat nerds who play computer games "to the extreame!!!"
Or..

That's not a good thing.

Kinda looks like me although I would never wear a purple shirt.

I'm pretty sure they're just random, depending on where your friends are on your list. As they come online, it changes, etc.
Has anyone gotten any premium themes yet? They seem like a ripoff.
I don't see why anyone would pay money for a theme. It's not like you spend a whole lot of time on the dashboard... Right?
I think that's what MS wants, and for a little bit yesterday I played around with stuff, but the novelty has worn off and I just want to play some games.
Got my Netflix accnt linked to the 360 and it works great....

Here is my avatar:

I did use the GOW 2 premium code that came with the game - very cool having your friend's standing in GOW theme settings..!
We have a thread specifically for avatars.
Hmmm... I haven't looked into my Gears of War 2 packaging in a bit. I know there's codes in there for maps, but a theme too? Gawsh! What kind of gamer am I? I put the game in a little jewel case so I wouldn't have to navigate the packaging every time. (Did the same with Gears 1 and Halo 3, but the Gears 2 package (ltd edition) really is much better than those 2).

Especially since, unless something's changed, you can still make your own wallpaper.

That, I've only thrown down for themes with the pocket change left over after buying DLC for games. Never really made a big deal out of it.

It's comical how much you're hating on the avatars.

I love the group chat so much. Being able to play co-op Halo, barking orders every now and then, whilst having a conversation with somebody not playing the game is perhaps the greatest thing ever.

I have the Gears 2 theme from pre-ordering at GameStop or whatever. The only difference is that there are three different backdrops that are used on the new friends list. Certainly not worth paying for, not that themes ever were.

I'm really liking the new dash. Everything is much faster. The only problem I had was the first time I booted up Rock Band 2 after downloading it to the hard drive. Only 20 of the on-disc songs showed up on the list. I backed out to the dash and reloaded and everything was there.

Seriously? You still haven't cooled on it a little? How often do you honestly use the dashboard? Half the time I just want into games which load up automatically anyways.
I signed up for a free trial of Netflix... and... I think I'm in love.

There were a few hoops, but it was still very quick and easy to do. I signed on for the cheapest plan, just to try it. From my perspective getting a dvd in the mail now and again is almost the bonus feature. Gonna catch up on 30 Rock for sure, and I think that The Orphange and The Ice Pirates are also in my future.
