I never played the original, so my expectations were probably fairly well muted.
Have they done this promotion before? What kind of question do they ask for you to get a code? Is it a simple question like "What is the capital of Vermont?" or a simple question like "What is the color of the font below?"
The latter style question. They're making sure there aren't bots in place to grab a bunch of the codes.
Today is a sad day. I had to get rid of my 360. Money problems. :..( Alas, Daddy316 is no more. Why couldn't someone have bought my laptop?? Oh well, having responsibilities sucks sometimes. Hopefully none of the rest of you will ever have to part with your machines. Did I mention :..(??
Sorry to hear it, BMetal. At least there should be benefits to buying a new one next year, like a lower retail price and/or a bigger HDD.
Yeah, that's what I was muttering to myself as I boxed it all up, or so my wife tells me. My memory is quite hazy during that period. Although I will add it wasn't as hard to cancel my live account as I had heard it would be. I'm man enough to say I had one tiny tear in my eye as I closed that beautiful box for the last time. Thanks for the support, it actually does make me feel better.
We're here for your BMetal. When you come back we'll welcome you with open arms.

As for the 360, I'm very interested to hear what news comes out tomorrow, if any, on the anniversary. I've seen some "insider" reports (which means it has about .02% of being right) saying that MS may soon announce HDMI capacility, maybe as early as tomorrow. That would be so sweet. Tomorrow is the day that HD TV and Movies come out on Marketplace as well. You can see Steve-O's scrotum and Shatner's hairpiece in glorious HD in less than 24 hours.

I just lost my computer, and the resulting saving-of-moolah-for-the-next-one will probably nix my plans for a 360 this Christmas.

Unless I can get one from Amazon for 100 bucks.

Blue Dragon article

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/747/747023p1.html

"Blue Dragon ships on three DVDs, making it bigger than any Xbox 360 title to date. According to Sakaguchi, the game required compression technology to fit onto the three disks. In uncompressed form, the game's data takes up over 30 Gigs of space!"

Ships 12/7 in Japan, hope we get it soon after.

How did Oblivion manage to fit into half of a DVD-9, while Blue Dragon requires three? Methinks JPRGs and their love of FMV video sequences are to blame.

I personally prefer to watch my video games, rather than play them.

Didn't Enchanted Arms come on two discs as well? Does sound like the classic JRPG prerendered problem.

About 2 hrs before the sale on Amazon, and the "official time calibration thread" is up to 22k worth of posts.

So, assuming that only the folks posting in that thread are going for it (and there's no way that's going to happen), you've got 22k people hitting Amazon servers at once at 2pm EST, repeatedly hammering, trying to get through. In reality, it'll be much more than that.

Talk about a stress test.
No go for me and I was in as the clock struck 12.

Do websites you see on your browser update depending on your computer clock or what?
Nope.

And Amazon's down. As in, the whole site. Internal server error screen.
[code=SERVER_RESPONSE_RESET] The server response could not be read because of an error. Contact your system administrator.

There's some sysadmins grumbling about the sales execs, right now.
...and it's back up, and sold out. And I was on a T1 line.*

I'm having trouble seeing how this is positive marketing. Normally, sales are designed to get people in for the sale item, then shop about for non-sale items.

This just frustrated thousands and thousands of potential buyers.

*I still didn't expect to get it.
Sigh. I knew the best case odds for this were around 20-1 but I'm still bummed.

So to the fates I say: where is your justice, oh sisters, oldest of all? I ask not for blood revenge but of the fuckhats with the whatever-thingies that let them make 10000 requests on a server before receiving an answer? Who will they be judged by? The Lamb, with his book of fucking life!? You are cruel, sisters. Cruel. And now, I go back to my misery, my never-had-once-been. My lightning struck tree, my unlit house. My Macy's Cock-forking Parade with the Barbies and the Kids from that Lost type show on ABC family and... Meredith VIERAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAUHUHHHUHHH

Sold off ALL of my crap (just have the 360 & DS now), was going to get a Wii and a few games, but I got almost $200 more than I expected. Instead of a Wii (I'll get it at some point, I'm really in no hurry) I finally picked up an LCD TV, and I couldn't be happier. The difference is stunning.

Otis, if you didn't have a hi-def tv before, be sure to re-play some of your favorite 360 games on the new set. I know it's a trite, consumer-ish thing to say, but once you go hi-def, you'll never want to go back.
Yeah, first hi-def for me, the holiday sales put it just outside what I could comfortably afford to spend, so pretty much the zone in which all of my electronics purchases reside. The difference in detail is crazy, I was picking people off in CoD from distances where I could barely discern movement before. Hell, I was amazed at the difference in the fucking Live guide menu.

Now I'm considering the HD-DVD upgrade.
720p or 1080i? My cool new TV does both, and try as I might, I can't seem to find a definitive answer as to which is better. Suggestions? Advice?

***edit***

Also, I have the component cables hooked up, but would a VGA cable be better?
Wait, if you don't have a PS2 anymore you can't play Guitar Hero. MADNESS.

Mostly, I'm just jealous of your TV.
Take your pick, really. 1080i is better with static imagery, 720p is better with dynamic, action packed stuff.

You do, of course, realize I have to hate you for even having that option right now, right?

I had been holding out for the 360 GH2 anyway, so it's just a couple non-guitar months for me.

I prefer 1080i, though there aren't a lot of 1080i native games. I believe both the Call of Dutys are 1080i native. I also think the dashboard looks a bit better in 1080i.

It's awesome, like a TV Jesus would watch. I feel dirty even talking to you and gravedigger with your regular sets. You're like animals.

Thanks for the info, 720p sounds like it will support my game preference best.

Well this news makes me think maybe 1080i is the way to go...

Hey, to be fair, I've got S-Video. It's High Def For Who's Left.

On the back of the 360 game boxes you'll see those little boxes that say what options/features the game supports. Both the CoDs support 480p/720p/1080i, but the latest Tomb Raider game only supports 480p/720p. I've never noticed any problems in 1080i as far as onscreen action goes, and it just looks plain sharper to me. Your mileage may vary.

And welcome to the HD club, otis. The buffet is on the left, the bar is open, and we have private booths in the back for your "personal entertainment" needs...
Thanks, all. I think I'll just try both settings and see what works best for me.

Generally I find 1080i to be quite a bit sharper and prefer that format.

The big exception is sports games. NCAA 2007 and Madden look noticeably better in 720p. Why is this? I don't know. Other than sports games, I universally opt for 1080i whether the game directly supports it or not.

Yeah, but I've still got a 30 inch TV.

Now, do we really wanna spend more time waving our technococks or can we hug it out and go back to hating Otis's?

I'm still not too happy that I couldn't hook my 360 up to my 1080p, 72 inch Toshiba with a Rotel 7.1 system (seven speakers and a subwoofer) and instead had to hook it up to my 53 inch Panasonic in my den that only supports 1080i, and has a mere Sony 5.1 DTS system (5 speakers and a sub).

Boo.

Overlord is probably one of those ambulance-chasing lawyers who hates America and loves "frivolous" lawsuits.

Anyway, the 360. I want one now.

Engadget says 1080p improvement, VGA improvement, and fixing funky stuff with headsets on wireless controllers.
Two questions:

1)Do you need the get a digital audio cable to get surround sound? Looking at the HD cables, it appears to just be stereo.

2)Has anyone seen any package deals for buying multiple wireless controllers? (buy 2 or 3 for a package price.)

Ok, three questions. The standard MS wireless controller is damn nice...any third party ones out there an improvement on this? (Since I'm going to be getting more controllers, I figure I might as well look.)
So. My 360 will, after about 5 min. of play, "beep" and then freeze. I'm fucked, aren't I? I did the whole, play without Harddrive, unplug everything, then plug it back in, try different games nonsense and still I get the Beep of Doom.
I don't think the unplug/plug back in bullshit ever works. So yeah, you might be fucked.
I don't remember a beep, but mine froze at first. Then it froze and I started to get a checkerboard pattern on my screen. Then I got the red lights and it was all over.
Yeah, you're fucked.

I got the checkerboard first, then freezing with beep, never got the triple red though.

Sucks, but if it's an older 360 it may still be covered.
Welcome to the suck...
Maybe me having to sell mine was a blessing in disguise. I still miss it though. :.(
post #247 of 2055
And you know, this is my second one. I got the Red Ring of Death with the last one, and have had this one for, oh, 3 months? Maybe. Fucking Microsoft. Oh well. The dude mentioned a year warranty when I got mine replaced. Still, I'd like to play Vegas and Gears...

You guys must be real karmic assholes or something, because I (who normally have all kinds of console screw-ups) have been completely golden with my launch 360. And it doubles as my dvd player right now to boot.
For me it's the opposite. I never had a problem with my launch day ps2, my gamecube, or my xbox.

Your time will come soon enough!
Question on overheating. Do ya'll find it better to sit the 360 horizontally or vertically?
