Ok so my controller just stopped working today. I don't mean the batteries died as I'm not a complete moron. No this thing just died and no matter what I do it will not live again. Anyone else have this problem with a wireless 360 controller? I'm guessing I will have to buy a new one unless someone knows of this happening and has a fix. I will google just in case there's a fix out there, but if not any help is appreciated. If you can't help, that's cool too but I thought I'd check with the Chud faithful as you guys tend to be pretty on the ball and generally helpful.

It won't turn on at all? That sounds like a fried controller.

Yeah, I'm thinking so. How I don't know, I was hoping it was maybe the battery holder was messed up or something but I can't figure out how that would happen either. Oh well off to the game store I go.

I'm having a weird connection issue lately -- I'll fire up the box and connect to Live with no problems. But whenever I start an EA game, it either disconnects me or won't connect to the EA servers, and then my Live connection is gone. I'm able to get into the Marketplace and the UNO lobby, and nothing odd happens with Gears of War, but Madden and NCAA just seem to kill my connection for some reason. I've reset my router and put the box back to the original settings, and it didn't help.

Burnout used to do this to me. My theory? EA sucks.

sigh....my dad just informed me that my 360 got the red circle of death today while I was at work. just tried it again and no circle...but now I'm nervous.

I'm on anxiety meds for the same problem. I get where you're coming from, I'm just glad it was my controller and not the whole thing. Good luck.

Could of been an AV/power surge problem. Does he remember whether it was four red lights or three?

What's weird though is that I got on the EA servers with absolutely no problems back in December when I first got the box. It's only recently this has been going on, but I haven't changed any settings or anything.

Anyone here backed up their saved game content to memory cards? I'm considering doing this on a regular basis, just in case something happens to the hard drive (or if a larger hard drive becomes available). I feel lazy, and don't want to research it. Who can chime in with advice?
i think it must have been a power surge, cause I had no problem playing today.
This is maddening -- I watch a DVD and I see friends popping in and out all the time. But as soon as I start a game, I get disconnected from Live. Then I go in and reconnect manually, and it fails. Then I run the test and says everything is fine and I can reconnect. Then I try to connect to the EA servers and it tells me they're not available, and I'm kicked from Live again. And even trying to connect to Uno is showing no games available, which I highly doubt.

This is probably a good idea. My system went and died on me back at the end of December (got a replacement from Gamestop...) and I had to swap out the whole thing, hard drive included. I pretty much lost everything on my hard drive. Live arcade games (I keep wanting to say Virtual Console, soon I'll just stop trying not to) can just get downloaded again, but I was pissed to lose my save files. A friend of mine had a memory card though and I was lucky enough that my dead system would OCCASIONALLY make it to the dashboard and then OCCASIONALLY not crash long enough for me to get off some of the saves I wanted.

A lost save file in some cases might be enough to kill your mojo for a game...
Speaking of memory cards and such- I'm thisclose to getting a 360 now that my last few backwards compatability holdouts have been added. Is there any way to hook a Xbox1 memory card to the 360 to transfer old Xbox1 save files?
Well, turns out the Dynex router that my local Best Buy simian told me was compatible with the 360 isn't on the list of compatible routers on the Xbox site. So I'm gonna do what I should have done in the first place -- pony up the extra cash and get a Linksys.
Anyone else sign up for the Xbox Rewards/Old Spice thingy? I did... but the site's been so bombarded I can't check anything out now.

The Linksys certainly works. That's what I have on mine and it was well worth it. I have never had any router related issues while on live.

Nope, no transfer of save files.

They should have the Xbox logo on the box if they are 100% confirmed compatible. My D-Link was pretty cheap, and I have had 0 issues with it.

That's lame. I don't know if I want to spend nine hours asking people if they would like to play Lucky Hit just so I can play AfterBurner again.

my system died on me just before the new year. i bought it in costco so i was able to exchange it, not sweat. only thing was, i lost my goddam saves as well. i was in the middle of GOW too. now i've lost all will to finish it. i shoulda bought a memory card...

And the Linksys is working fine now. No problems.

The "contest" is a fucking joke. There's no excuse for their servers to be down for a full 24 hours at this point...you're Microsoft, for chrissakes. You guys should be able to figure this kind of stuff out.

And then it turns out that the prizes are very, very finite, which means the video games, point packages and advancement packages will all undoubtedly be claimed before the end of the week. Nothing like dropping 20 hours to boost your gamerscore only to be rewarded with a fucking Old Spice picture pack, huh?

No thanks.

WTF... I can't visit the Xbox site using Firefox?

These tales of system death on the 360 for systems that are just a little more than a year old are very disconcerting to me, warranty or no warranty.

mine is officially dead, and I can't find the reciept. luckily my dad is going to split the price of a core system with me and I'll just keep all my peripheral stuff.

Okay, I'm playing CRACKDOWN yesterday, and I had an idea for a 360 commercial.

We have this guy at home, and he's hopping on one leg. We see him at work, going around the office hopping on one leg. At lunch, and on the way home hopping on one leg. He's at home, and suddenly we see the icon "Achievement Unlocked!" He stops jumping and says "Yes!" The commercial ends, saying "XBox 360. You'll see the world in a different way."

Yes, I have way too much time on my hands.
it pays to register major products you purchase. My 360 is getting repaired for free.

Great idea! This is exactly how I feel trying to get some of the achievements and yet, I can't bring myself to stop. It's just so addictive.
Ok, so I'm finally ready to get a 360, but I'm really concerned about this rumored new version with the larger hard drive and all that. I thought there might be news from the GDC this week, but so far nothing. Anyone heard anything solid? I'm going to feel like a dick if I pick it up only to have the better version released in a couple of months.
I kind of hate my Xbox. Its weird to hate an inanimate object, I mean hate really is something I reserve for people (oh that doesn't sound good), but I really hate it.

I sit there and stare at it wondering when its going to fuck me over or how. Actually more like, what is it going to do to me next. Not turn on? Hard drive crash? No picture? Can't connect to Xbox live? How are you going to play me next you dirty whore?

So while I guess there is the advise to wait for the inevitable kinks to work out with the HDMI one, (probably around Christmas) who cares, it going to be an evil machine no matter what.

Of course when you do get one Alex, we're totally co-oping our way through the sewers in TMNT. Just to see what's on the other side.
I'm wrestling with the same problem as Alex. Is there really that big a difference in picture quality from component cables to HDMI? The best TV in my house is a 19 inch Philips (the tube kind with a flat screen) so it's not like I'm super-sophisticated when it comes to discerning differences between pictures.

Gravedigger, it will make ZERO difference in your case. The componet cables that come with the XBOX are fantastic. Sure, HDMI may be better, but unless you're sitting pretty close to a 42" or bigger TV you won't notice any increase in visual quality. I want the HDMI just so I can use one cable for digital audio and video. A lot of HDMI advocates make it out to be the holy grail and in most cases the benefits are just meh.

I bought a 360 last week. Luckily I got it from Costco, and as far as I know they don't have a return policy on game systems (not one that they advertise like they now do with TVs) so I'll exchange it when the "new" version comes out. I've got both my PS3 and 360 hooked up to me 26" lcd monitor which only gets 720P (PS3 through HDMI, and composite for XBOX). Hopefully by the time the new one comes out I'll have replaced my big screen in the other room with a better one (one that isn't like 16 years old.)

I wasn't really sold on that game, but man... I need to find out what happens there. Funny how lame we were at that game, eh?

So I'm going to probably be joining you fuckers on this thing tomorrow. I got a helluva deal for a 360 with Burnout (even though I own the original Xbox version...), and while I'm still going to be pissed if the better hard drive comes out soon at least I saved some cash.

Probably going to pick up Gears of War or Dead Rising tomorrow to get this sucker started.

Gamertag's already set- Creature Corner, to keep things simple...

On a side note, I just rented Psi-Ops:The Stupidly Long Title, and while it's a fun game, my shitty "DIRTY DISC ERROR!" giving Xbox makes things a pain. I was ready to chuck that big hunk of garbage out my window when its big brother comes tommorow but now I found out the game's not backwards compatible. Dah.
We looked pretty awful, especially at that whole "jumping" thing where you have to hit a button to make the character "jump over shit." Otherwise...
I'm getting one of these in the next two weeks but I won't be getting it hooked up to the internets for a while. Does Microsoft still send backward compatibility updates through the mail if requested? I didn't find anything on xbox.com but I suppose I wasn't looking in the right place.

Worms is glorious. Why did I never play this before?

The only reason I ever knew about is because of my brother-in-law. All he does is play with computers and he acted like I was retarded for never hearing of it, and that was like four years ago. What I'm trying to say is don't feel bad, we all discover the glory of Worms in our own time.

Shit, that's all I've been playing since it came out. Just hope they release some of the weapons they left out, as I really really want to kill people with the Holy Hand Grenade.
I don't get Worms.

I mean, sure, they make funny noises when they die, but the pace is so. Goddamned. Slow. I wind up losing interest and wandering off halfway through every match.

Turtles comes out tomorrow, right? Considering how many billions of quarters I dumped into that game as a kid, Konami should feel morally obligated to give me a free copy.
So much for the TMNT XBLA release being timed with the movie/retail game versions.. I was so hoping for Castlevania to pull through this week..
So I've decided to upgrade my XBox and buy a 360 in the next month or so, as I came to the realization that I just can't live without Guitar Hero about 6 months ago, but couldn't justify buying a lame duck system for one game. A question before I take the leap:

I've seen talk of a price drop/hardware upgrade on the horizon (before May)...what's the general consensus on this--probably truth or likely bullshit?
