Next Red Orchestra to be released on STEAM

I haven't been this disappointed since I found out Spartan wasn't the sequel to Demolition Man. For those that don't know, RO is a kick ass WW2 mod for UT2K4 (love those abbreviations don't ya). There's no real HUD per se. You have no idea how much amo you have left in your clip unless you reload, which tells you how heavy the clip. No crosshairs, and you move slow. You can sprint for a short amount of time but then nearby enemies can hear you breathe. The next iteration will be stand alone and released on STEAM, which means the CSS crowd will be it's main audience. This means more than three servers and better ping. The existing three servers have usually have people on, two of them with over 15 usually.

This also means a crowd full of shiteaters, crosshairs, a full HUD, terrible hitbox action. Most likely anyways. Anyone partake in the awesomeness of RO? Any CSS players (I am one myself) care to comment? I am down with more players and more servers which means better ping. The ping is atrocious on the three servers. Damn this sounds like a shill post . Can't help it though, I am genuinely miffed by this....

I highly doubt they'll be using crosshairs and a full HUD, the fans would crucify them. Terrible hitbox action? They're still using the UT 2.5 engine, same as before. Why would the hitboxes be terrible all of a sudden?

They're making mainstream changes. For instance, CSS has more forgiving hitboxes than CS.

Red Orchestra is developed by Tripwire and uses the Unreal engine, Counter-Strike Source is developed by Valve and uses the Source engine. The two companies and their games have no relation other than the fact that Valve is letting Tripwire use Steam to distribute RO. Tripwire has full creative control over RO since they're financing it themselves. If anything, they're going in a more hardcore direction instead of simplifying the gameplay.

They said they're making it more streamlined, not as hardcore as the mod. I know Valve has nothing to do with it.

I liked Red Orchestra when I played it, but there sure weren't too many servers to choose from. The changes are to gain more popularity, which is to the good. Honestly, you can only have so much realism in a game before it just gets tedious and annoying, driving people away.

It seems like you're more concerned about the stigma of being associated with Steam than anything else.

I likw Steam....I also love RO. I like it the way it is The mod will still be around though. If need be, I'll join a mod server.
