While I liked the ghostbusters riff in 'Ghost House', I went with the Killening, which almost sounds like a Simpsons reference.

It's a slow day at work.

C'mon people, proofread.

This batch overall didn't do much for me, so I went with the Killening, just because the King foreward parody made me laugh.

So, why didn't 'Pool Party' make the cut? I'm pretty sure I followed all the rules

It was submitted too late.

I just wanted to echo Hewlett's sentiment about proof-reading. No matter how engaging a plot or characters may be, I'm instantly turned off if the work is plagued by typos. Surprisingly, many of the errors in these submissions are spelling errors that could have been detected by simply using a word processor's spell check tool.

Who proofreads the proofreaderers?

Answer: Harry Caul!

I was kind of hoping that this would be the best batch of all, but I think that there are enough good stories across all five batches to make for an interesting final showdown. It's going to be like the movie Bloodsport, but with way less 'Van Damme doing the splits' and way more 'describing in way too much detail how a beam of light hits someone's face.' I kid, I kid.

Also, are there any plans to preserve the winners of each batch as chudstories, as a kind of consolation prize? That would be cool.

Actually, all of these entries are already available for perusal if you head over to the CHUDstories index. They're simply labeled as The Skeleton Key Ghost Stories.

Schmoe, if you wanna submit your story for CHUDstories, click here. You'll have to go through the same approval process as everyone else who submits for it as it no longer has anything to do with the contest.

Please tell me you didn't vote on a story because the title made you think of the Simpsons.

Hey, I never said I should be the one proofreading their work....

I have been enjoying these tremendously and in this round I voted for Family Secrets. Lengthy but a good read all the same.

No, I voted for it because it was the only one that elicited a strong reaction from me (namely, ambiguous Simpsons nostalgia).

Six of one, half dozen of the other.

(I'm not disparaging you, by the way, it was my favorite story as well. But then again, I'm a bit biased in that I like things that poke fun at the genre.)

The Killening, while clever, isn't even remotely a ghost story.

I'm going with "Family Secrets" on this one.
