The Madden Curse

Just wanted to point out this phenomenon is still in effect since it was announced a week ago or so that McNabb was getting surgery. How many years in a row does that make it, 4 or 5?

2005 - T.O. (right?)
2004 - Vick
2003 - Ray Lewis.

Yes...I'm really bored at work today...

I hate John Madden. His commentary makes watching football much less enjoyable.

I think 2000 was the first year someone other than John Madden appeared on the cover.

Needless to say, the "curse" has indeed affected everyone on the list the very next year...some more than others.

Isn't the real curse that Madden is stuck having his name attached to a shitty football game year after year until the end of time?

HEY-OOO!!

I hope they put both Shockey and Eli on the cover next year. Or maybe just the whole Cowboy's team. Either one is fine.

I agree. Madden is by a wide margin my least liked part of his games. On the plus side it seems Madden has taken a back seat in the 360 version only showing up in the ask madden windows.

As for on tv its just as bad. Ten years ago he was fine but the mans just gotten crazier and crazier over the years. With the stuff that comes out of his mouth sometimes, its amazing you dont hear Al Michael laughing his ass off or just backhanding him or something.

Madden is horrible, but Paul "let me tell you something" Maguire and Joe "I don't know the rules of football" Theisman are even worse.

This reminds me of the chunky soup curse. I think at one point, all four spokesman for the chunky soup commercials were either out for the year or out indefinitely.

I got to say I don't really see how Ray Lewis was cursed (no I don't count the fact that he has a horrible QB as a curse)

Wasn't Ray the only one who didn't get injured? I thought he was the first to avoid the curse.

I have a feeling no one better fantasy draft Tomlinson next year.

An unfortunate side effect of too many Bloomin' Onions in his bloodstream and the psychotropic effects of "Tough Actin' Tinactin".

"Defense is when you try and keep the other team from scoring"

He was injured for 10 games in 2005, after appearing on the cover:

NFL

This is the year where he's missed games. It was last year that he was on the cover. The curse has always referred to the upcoming season after they appeared.

The year on the Madden game refers to the year the Super Bowl is played. So when he was on last years' cover, Madden '05, he only missed one game.

D'oh, you're right...my bad. Lewis was able to avoid the cover jinx, but it still hasn't helped his team from sucking major.

Here's a great contest - Madden Cover vs. Peyton Manning.

Irresistable force vs. immovable object
