Vasectomy Questions.

My daughter just turned seven recently, and she has two half-brothers by other men, so I have decided to take steps to have no more babies.

The only people I know that have had a vasectomy, had one many years ago, and I know the procedure has come a long way since then. I hope to find a doctor to do the "one stitch" method I've been hearing about. Has anyone had, or know someone that a has a vasectomy fairly recently? I would like to know:

1. How much does the procedure cost (roughly)?
2. How long does it take to recover, and does it really knock you on your ass?
3. Is there any change in sexual desire after the procedure?

Thanks.

Well, I hope to get mine the last week of December. I have the last week of December and the first week of January off from work, I figure that should be long enough to heal up.

A friend of mine had one recently, and he says he's going to act like he's 'firing live rounds' for several months to make sure it took.

How did it feel? According to him, like getting kicked square in the balls.

I can't help you with any cost info...mine was done in 1985 while in the Navy so it was free. The procedure does NOT knock you on your ass; I was back on light duty the next day (no exertion as a precaution) and back to full duty the following week. The important thing to remember is that it takes up to six weeks to clear out all the "live rounds" so you have to use protection until you produce a sample that's tadpole-free. I had no change in sexual desire or function whatsoever. Also, most of your semen is composed of prostate fluid so you may not notice any change in ejaculated volume either.

Clinical details: A local anesthetic was used and the procedure was pretty much painless, with two small incisions made to get to the plumbing. It's important to note that you will feel a sensation similar to pressure or compression during the procedure, as the doc needs to pull out enough "tube" to excise a sufficient section to keep the ends from growing back together. That's not a very pleasant feeling but it isn't really pain, either. The cut ends will also be cauterized (I think they still do that) to further inhibit tube regrowth...no pain there but it smells funky. The incisions were not sutured at all; clamps were used to hold them together for a few minutes then removed (that would probably hurt if you weren't numb ) and then a gauze bandage was applied. As long as you take it easy for a few days they should heal pretty quickly.

Hope this answers some questions. As far as the overall experience goes, it's pretty benign as long as there are no complications (ask your doc about that). I've had no long-term side effects in 20 years, other than no unplanned children.

I had a vasectomy done AND reversed. I never EVER felt right after having it done the first time. Since having it reversed, I feel better, but not 100%. I am not talking pain or shit like that. Its just wierd. I was vasectomized for more than a year, and it was just... Weird. Find another way. I.U.D. or SOMETHING. Trust me.

The procedure was horrifying. I sat in a little private room adjacent to the doctors office. I was awake for the whole thing. Nothing prepars you for what I call "the smell". The smell of your tubes cauterizing. It smells like burnt hair, I don't believe there is a way to avoid it, and it fucks you up. I was palying touch football two days afterward, so recovery time is alright. Having the reversal was a LOT tougher. You go under 100%, they have you in there for roughly two hours, and the recovery is HORRENDOUS. It was about a 5 day recovery period, If I remember correctly.

Don't fucking do it.

Agreed. Don't do it!

Had mine done and had complications. The doc used stainless steel clips to clamp the ends off, silly me I never thought to ask how he was going to do it. A couple years later I wound up with a blood clot that had to be surgically removed. THEN I was on my ass for a few weeks. I had them remove the damn clips while they were in there as they often caused untold pain. Think of your balls being pinched from the inside when you sit down.

Oh yeah, one more thing. Some of the worst pain I've felt in my life (and I was married so I know pain) was when the doc tested to make sure that I was numb before doing the procedure........I wasn't. He squeezed what I guess was one of the tubes with a pair of pliers, basically. I'm talking instant sweating, jolting forward, and screaming without worrying about where I was.

My advice, give up sex before having it done.

Wow, judging from the hysterics there must be some real hacks out there performing vasectomies. Nobody I know that's gotten one has ever had a problem. Not one. When the procedure is performed correctly there is very little healing pain, no residual pain afterwards, and no loss of sexual function. That's my personal experience.

Obviously you need to get some recommendations for a good doc before you haul off and do this. Never take chances.

I just had mine done in March this year. There's no loss in performance or desire. The ejaculation amount is the same. The pain is present for 2 days or so in the affected area. I didn't feel any pain when the doc was doing the procedure.

I went to the TOP #1 urologist in my state. This guy didn't fool around. He cut, cauterized, and tied off. I think the price was $500 for the procedure and 3 office visits at $120 each.

You're swollen for about 5 days and a little black and blue. Just wear a jock strap and you'll be fine. Support is the name of the game.
