Every child communicates in some form whether it be by crying, body language, facial expressions or verbalization. Some children talk early, some late, some with augmentative communication devices, some not at all. As a teacher I wanted to facilitate the child learning language..

Toren came to me at age 32 months. He had 2 words: Ma Ma and Bye Bye. He could not focus, but ran around the room. His mother was convinced I was going to have him cured by his third birthday. I told her I was no miracle worker, but we'd do what we could during the next 4 months. Immediately we started structuring Toren's day. I went home and worked up a program called 'Toren's Nouns'. The first day I showed Toren the program, he looked at it for 10-15 seconds and then left the computer. The next day he stayed about 30 seconds. Each day he built up more time at the computer. By the second week, he would sit on my lap for 10 minutes pressing whichever word he wanted to hear. But he spoke no sounds, no words. Three weeks passed. I began berating myself. 'See, Jo, you thought this noun program was so great. Look at Toren, he's not learning anything.' The fourth week Toren walked over to the computer, picked up the overlay from the IntelliKeys keyboard, pointed to 10 different words and approximated each word. That day, I cried..

Why is it that I seem to be getting these bizarre emails all the time? Is this a new tactic for spammers? Confuse people till they click on your link?

There seems to be a big scam going lately where people with companies over-seas claim to have trouble cashing postal money orders. They want you to send them money and they send you the money orders to cash, keeping an extra 30% for your trouble.

I heard about this on my local news a while back, and seem to get a new one every day. Some of them are really original, and quite detailed.

It a technical trick. Spam filtering software utilizes various heuristic methods to determine if a message qualifies as spam. By inundating the mail with as many bizzarly generated lines of text, the spammer is looking to confuse the filtering software, and allow the message to pass through.

The solution to spam is actually an easy one. Find all the idiots who are actually purchasing the products from the spam provided links, and ban them from the internet forever.

Jesus, do you relaize the is pretty much what the original Ponzi scam back in the 20's did?
Truly there is a sucker born every minute.

I think there's a hidden code in there that's going to flip a switchin your brain and turn you into a deadly assassin just like Reggie Jackson in The Naked Gun.

I was thinking it might be one of those "open a portal to another dimension" things, but could be that....

I actually got some scam email a few weeks ago from some guy at a bank. Some client with no relatives had died and left an unspecified but large sum in the bank- all I had to do was come foward and claim it, i'd get 40%, he would get 50, and 10 would go to a charitable church fund. I'd really love to fuck with people like this...

And yeah, it is sad that people still fall for this kinda stuff, but there's a lot of stupid bastards in the world.

Huh? The Nigerian thing isn't really a Ponzi scheme. The Nigerian scam uses a simple one-on-one contact but Ponzi schemes require an exponentially growing group of suckers to continue.

What I don't understand is they live long enough to get these emails. You'd think people this dumb would walk into a teeming roadway, or off a cliff, or accidentally kill themselves while running with scissors...

I just deciphered your message. Man, that's some deep shit. You better pray the NSA don't a) read your post and b) know where you live. I doubt it's an accident you received that e-mail.

Subject: Penguin sighting in California

Ventura, CA, May 8 – According to a report in the Ventura Journal Times-Record Democrat, a lone penguin floating on an ice chunk off the shore of Ventura was spotted by local fisherman B.E Wallerstadt last weekend.

"I seen it," stated Wallerstadt, who has been fishing off the coast of Ventura for over 20 years. "I never seen anything like it before. It was kind of perplexing, because he was leaning forward, like he was on the front of a viking ship or something. It was kind of epic, really."

There were no other eyewitnesses, but the experience has left a hefty impression on Wallerstadt. "Greatest fishing day of my life," he confesses. "I'll never forget it." There were no further reports of where the non-indigenous penguin landed or how he arrived on the shores of California.
That's the entire email.

Thank god they told you!

I've gotten a few like that, and I heard the same explanation someone offered here about the gibberish being used to avoid spam detection.

What really confuses me is when there are no links or attachments in the spam. I've gotten a few really short ones where they don't seem to be trying to lure you into anything, and they're also not trying to pretend to know you to get you to respond to see if your email address is active. They're sometimes no subject and just a few nonsense words.

On my msn account I've been getting a lot of single sentence "Get Viaagro proo."

Here's the latest one I got from Heralkes Wade:

Viag vmy ra only khk $1 usw . 1 [spam link deleted]

ought to be fined.Mr. Crouch came next. He shot a number nine into the air.Harry let go of Parvati at once.Harry, Fred began, but Harry pulled out his wand.to the carriage shortly afterward"

It's kind of fun if you stop to read it. Someone should link all a bunch of these emails together and post it.

My favorite spam ever had a subject of "Sometimes. Not always. But sometimes, I like to see a girl do it....with a horse."

I almost clicked on the link out of sheer appreciation.

It's actually a real story from earlier in the week. Are you sure you didn't sign up for a "NEWS OF THE WEIRD!!!" service while drunk one night?

Maybe it was YellowHare trying to get back into chud's good graces by submitting news.

Alex was Connigit? Huh, I always wondered what happened to that guy.
