Help with son's xbox

I've got an old TV and a VCR. I got my son the original xbox.
I plugged the xbox into the VCR, that is connected to the TV. The TV only has one cable connection. Is there anything else I need to make it work? I don't get anything but snow on the set. Do I need to play with channel settings or something?
I'm not very up on xbox savy as you can tell. He's a great kid and doesn't have much else, I would like to make this work for him.
Can anyone help?

It needs to go directly into the TV.

You may be able to tune one of the channels on the VCR in so you pick up the Xbox signal, but that's a rather clumsy way of solving the problem. The best thing to do is buy a cable splitter that'll let you plug the console and the VCR into the TV at the same time. Shouldn't cost more than a few bucks.

You'll have to turn the tv to the channel you use to watch movies on the vcr, and then turn the vcr to the "input channel". That may be channel zero, or it could have a button that says video 1, input, or aux. You'll have to leave the vcr on to play xbox while it's hooked up this way.

You could also get something called an audio/video switch for about 25$ (I'm guessing here) that would switch between the Xbox and the VCR for you.

Here's how my old set up worked: tv on channel 3, vcr on channel zero, PS one plugged into the vcr. If the tv or the vcr was on a different channel, I got nothing on screen.

Her system may be different from that (probably is), but I was trying to give as much info as possible in a fairly concise fashion. When I stared my post, yours wasn't there yet so I'm sorry if I stepped on your toes. So why are you busting balls?

She probably saw your MB thread for the Nation's Punched that involved "Nick's Fix" and thought that we couldn't be any worse than any other message board.

Plus, it doesn't help that you can search for completely random things on Google and sometimes the CHUD MB's come up really high in the results.
