Thinking About Trading PSP for DS

I've been thinking about trading in my PSP for a DS. The PSP just isn't delivering in the games department like I thought it would. I picked up Burnout: Legends a couple weeks ago and I've found it to be pretty disappointing, which isn't good seeing as it's ranked as one of the system's best games.

Should I trade for a DS which has games like Mario Kart DS and Metroid or should I hold on to my PSP and perhaps just pick up a USB cord, a memory card, and download some emulated games?
Yeah, games are kind of sucking right now. I primarily use mine for movies and emulators. You can't get much better than a portable NES, SNES, & Sega. Especially if you have a large memory stick. Plus original DOOM & DOOM II on the go is awesome, especially in the PSP's fullscreen sweetness.

The best PSP games are probably still to come (I heard there may be a REAL Metal Gear Solid coming in the future), but if you don't want to wait or aren't that interested in emulated games, I'd say trade for the DS. DS games has PSP beat.

I even have a friend that wants to buy a second PSP, so if you decide to let yours go, let me know.

If you decide to trade off, Matt, let me know what you want for the system and Burnout.

Well right now my plan was to go down to Gamestop or EB and trade in my PSP with my copies of Lumines and Burnout to try and wrangle myself a Mario Kart DS. I just don't know if it's worth the trade-off because I'm not sure if there are any worthwhile PSP games down the road.
I can't help you there. I love Mario Kart and Kirby on the DS, but the PSP has Grand Theft Auto and the new Daxter game. I'd say the DS offers more bang for your buck, but since you already have a PSP, that kind of changes the equation a bit.

Anyway, if Gamestop offers you a shitty trade-in price, let me know. Or try selling your system on Ebay--you're practically guaranteed to get more money than you would at a trade-in store.

When you play Burnout on the DS you'll want your PSP back. I have both and it's not even close. Not by a long stretch. I do like Ace Phoenix and some of the other DS games, but come on... PSP is for adults and DS is for youngins.
The DS is not for kids. The DS is for games, the PSP is for porn and random files. With the current line up of DS games, this should be a no-brainer. Ditch the PSP until some decent games come out, and then get you one of those white PSP giga-packs.

DS for kids.....come on....Burnout is awful though. No worse than Brotherhood of the Blade....

It's a shitty, shitty port. There's an easy solution here... just don't buy Burnout DS. If you want a racing game get Mario Kart.

I just got a PSP and I have to say that I am more interested in it as a media center than anything else.

For those that have PSPs, what size memory card do you have?

That always comes up in my debate on wether or not to purchase one. The current games don't really amp the interest and as far as a media center I already have a portable DVD Player (which awesomely doesn't require special discs) and an iPod for the music. Does it offer anything else in the way of media?
I'm in the PSP camp as of last week. Incredible. I know we can have both, but the look and the capabilities of the PSP sold me. As for the games, I really only need GTA: LCS, FIFA 06, and Lumines to tide me over until new, and probrably much more better games, come out.
I have a 1gig, a 256, and 3 32mb cards.

PSP doesn't require special discs to watch movies if you rip them.

Which is probably legal if you own the original.
Yeah that's true - I never thought about ripping them. Although like I said I already have a portable DVD Player so I wouldn't buy it just for that. I really can't find a reason to want it other than the fact that I just want it. Which I know is vague and makes no sense. Which is why I haven't bothered to pick one up yet. Ah well...

PLUS you can't fit a portable DVD player, IPod, and handheld gaming system comfortably in one pant pocket. PSP does all three plus pics & wireless internet.

I have a 2 gig stick with Heat ripped on it and two PSP games (Lumines / Star Wars Battlefront 2) dumped to the same memory stick. Plus Sega, NES, & SNES emulators; PSP Radio (streams radio channels off of the Internet), DOOM & DOOM II, and a UMD emulator to play my ISO files.

Once more of my friends get a DS, I'll get one too (for multi player Mario Kart). It's got some good games, but a lot of them do seem geared for the "younger" generation.
I just got the Mario Kart DS special package. It's fantastic, the touch screen is a gas, and the game is awesome. There's not one single game for the PSP worth owning as of yet, I've played alot of them on my friends PSP. I'd say the DS has the hand up.
On what planet is any GTA game not worth owning?
Yeah...LCS is the only game that really "grabbed my goat" (although I admittedly haven't done a whole lot of research as to what's available), I just couldn't justify paying $300 (adding the cost of the game) to play one game. Although I didn't consider ripping my own movies to memory stick or the emulator games and didn't know about the wireless internet capabilities. I know I know...a little reading could have provided this info earlier but even if I could justify the purchase I haven't been able to afford one until now so there ya go.

Anyway - thanks for the info and sorry to derail the thread!

PSP owners need to go out and buy VIRTUA TENNIS.
Greatest pong ever.

I wasn't the biggest fan of GTA for the Game Boy Advance....but it barely qualified as a GTA title.

I've been playing Doom II and Duke Nukem on game boy advance recently. Their handheld graphics aren't quite as impressive since I had the chance to fiddle with a PSP this weekend.

DS might get my purchase if they ported over Goldeneye and a few other 64 titles. Isn't the PSP basically the equivalent of a neutered PS2, the DS a neutered 64, and the Advance a SuperNES?

Does the DS economy exhibit the same phenomenom as the Advance in that "Adult" games quickly disappear from shelves and cost a great deal more on the resale market?
I do own both, and honestly my DS gets much more playtime and has more depth in the library that includes the GBA slate. That said, the PSP on tech alone has much more potential and would be unstoppable if the games start coming. I'm not one to really use the other capabilities, but if a media center is your thing, PSP for sure.

I'd say get yourself a DS, but sell some non PSP crap to get it.

and PS, slater, your new gamertag on Live is amazing.

Bad music, bad targeting, stories strange... Once the shock wears off that a handheld has GTA 3D, it feels like a timewarp backwards. Missions are usually one dimesional, it also seems like police response was nurfed... For frame rate maybe? It just feels like they could have approached this differently, making the game stand alone in its own era. It's good, but shouldn't be considered a system shipper.

Yeah, I'd like to play it, but I'm not going to buy a system just for GTA. The DS, however, has Mario Kart, Meteos, and Castlevania.

I'm still getting life out of my Advance, suckas.
Ditto. I <3 my GBA SP.

Penny Arcade had a good comment the other day, essentially that...oh, fuck it, here's the quote:

"The games hitting the DS now in their major franchises aren't the filthy ports with a few bonuses tacked on I feared would dominate the machine - they're actually the legitimate sequels, definitive versions that replace the old ones in terms of features and I daresay fun. The new Animal Crossing game for the DS is Animal Crossing II, with the multiplayer that was clamored for. The Mario Kart that is out for the DS is the new Mario Kart. Not the "portable version," not the constrained subset. It's the most robust offering in the franchise."

That's the crux, for me. The same could be said of Castlevania and Advance Wars, and I have faith that more will come. The only PSP game that's an equivalent is Hot Shots -- everything else, as enjoyable as some are, is a port or a redheaded stepchild.

Are the ports on the DS bad? Yep. Burnout and Prince of Persia are sham games. But the best on the DS far outshines the best on the PSP in my eyes.

Ditto II. Can't get enough Defender of the Crown and Doom II.
I'm sure the DS is a fine system and everything, but I have yet to see a single game on it that interests me. And I use the PSP as much for media as for games, so I'm more than happy with it. My collection of Adult Swim episodes on my memory sticks is growing impressive indeed. Now I'm working on Arrested Development...
I just don't get how you can watch TV shows on such an eensy little screen.
Well, couldn't you say the same about playing video games?

Sure, I'd love to walk around with a 35" hi-def screen wrapped around my eyes, but that ain't gonna be happening anytime soon...
It's not that small, really.
The LCD screen is a thing of beauty. It's widescreen, and having a long train ride to and from work, makes it even better. Thing is, if your at home all the time, your really don't need this.

It's kind of hard playing LCS after finishing up San Andreas. Not that it's a bad game per se, but I certainly miss some aspects (like swimming, for example). Feels more like an expansion pack to GTA III.

Still an impressive feat for a portable, and if I could get the multiplayer to work, I'm sure that'll be a treat.

BTW, what's good for cleaning the LCD screen?
I think the microfiber cloth that comes in the package works great.

I just purchased my DS and it certainly is the champ. I did some Mario Kart racing with my uncle last night head to head. We only needed one copy of the game. We linked wirelessly and were set. Trauma Center is better than a young Annie Potts. Not to mention more "adult" titles like Metroid Hunters and Resident Evil are coming out in the next few months. Compound that with the wifi and the possibility of what the wifi will mean in conjunction with the nintendo revolution. It is almost enough to make me smack my wife....again.

I'm pretty sure they're wrong (if their position is that you are not allowed to make a backup copy of one of your DVD in a different medium), but I'm unaware of a case directly on point.

Oh, I think they're wrong, but they even call backups piracy.

Yeah.....they'll almost certainly be losing that battle.
