The "received" e-mails you get from Netflix, are they getting the films in a timely manner and not sending them out soon enough? For me, I never send my DVDs back from my own mailbox. I drop them off at the post office. You think you might be getting some lag from your local mail carrier?

That's what I'd say.

I've been using them for over 3 months now, and it's still usually a one-day turnaround each way. If I send one out Monday, they receive it Teusday, and I receive a new movie on Wednesday. I also drop them off at the post office, not through my own mailbox.

I was afraid that might be the case. I don't know how you fight the post office. I've already called and questioned the postmaster about the situation, and he (very curtly) assured me that the netflix were handled like all other mail. Not that I thought they weren't, but what am I gonna say? "Tell your people to work harder, asshole"? It's probably because I live in a small town-- but I still don't see why there's such a slowdown from years past.

I've had similar problems where I'd mail two discs back on the same day and they would arrive at Netfix days apart. Netflix themselves told me to mail back two discs in one envelope to help cut down delays.

The other thing you can do is report the disc as lost in the mail. Netflix immediately sends out the next movie on your list and you don't get penalized as long as the disc you reported lost gets returned to them. The movie must be out for 6 days before it can be reported as missing in the mail, though.

Thanks, I had been wondering that. I emailed Netflix twice and never got a straight answer in that regard. Consequently I wasn't sure if there was a limit to the number of times you could report movies missing, or if the limit only applied when netflix never received the discs back. That's something, at least.

I signed up last night, been having a ton of fun ordering just about every movie I can remember being recommended here in the last few years.

After reading this thread my excitement has decreased slightly.

Is this slow turnaround usually only the case with New Releases? Cause my Netflix is used pretty much mainly for older stuff or really obscure stuff that you just can't find in the video store and I never have a problem with turnaround time. I always attributed it to not many people clamoring to see those movies.

I'll get the one day delay on my DVDs occasionally (sometimes often,) but my post office is notoriously slow.

The only time it takes a movie more than 1 day to get to me (e.g. ships Monday, gets here Tuesday) is when the movie ships on Friday. Often times it won't make it here on Saturday. I don't know if it has much to do with how new the film is. If you get your hands on a new release it should arrive as quick as any other disc in your queue. Most of my movies have a ship date of current date and arrival date of the next day however I've seen some movies with a ship date of current date and an arrival date of 2 days later. I can only assume that these films are shipping from another distro center but I'm not sure if that's actually true.

Many times I get the message in my queue: "Your next movie is expected to ship today" (after they get my return), then the message will change to: "Your next movie is expected to ship tomorrow"... Why don't they just ship it when they said they would... This happens alot. I return next day almost always and have noticed a big slowdown for me in the past year (member since '03).

They do have a pretty good inventory, however BB does have a few titles that Netflix doesn't carry.

I would email them about that or look at their FAQ section.

That's happened to me before, but since most of the titles I have in my queue generally arrive within 1-2 days (both to and from), I haven't ever found myself jumping at the bit waiting for a title to arrive.

I joined Netflix because I consistently had late fees at local video stores and at the time I joined, most video store chains didn't have a wide enough selection of DVD titles. Because Netflix has been able to "kill two birds with one stone", I cannot remember the last time I rented from a store.

I've had a few recently that've taken 2 days to get to me from our local Netflix depot, usually it's slow getting the DVD's back to them but not when they ship. I think the mail service here is just pretty crappy. It just amazes me that it can take them 2 days to move something all of about 15 miles!

I had Blockbuster.com for a while (and I've also had Netflix). The strange thing I'd run into was, if I mailed my DVD from home, it took like 4-5 days for them to get the disc (and they have a warehouse here in Atlanta). But if I mailed the disc from work, they turned it around the next day. A friend of mine here in the area who has Netflix has the exact opposite problem--when he sends his discs from home, they get there twice as fast than when he would send them from work.

I don't think I've had a two day turnaround in the year and a half I've had netflix. Three or four is the average. I've adjusted, however, by cycling one movie back every other day or so. That tends to stagger things enough so that we don't go long without new movies showing up.

I normally drop all three of my DVDs in the work mail every Monday morning and get my new movies back by Wednesday or Thursday.

I find that if first movie on my list has a "Short Wait" or "Long Wait" than it frequently slows down the next replacement movie on the list by about a day. I think they put a brief hold on shipping the next movie on the list to see if the movie with the wait becomes available. Unless I want to see the movies with a wait on them ASAP, I try to keep them below #5 untill the wait notification goes away.

Netflix is great unless you have a sudden strong desire to see a specific movie that night.

I drop them in the mailbox on Monday, have new ones on Wednesday. Luckily, there's a distro here in Albuquerque.

I've been with Netflix for nearly a year, and I've been very pleased with them.

Gamefly, on the other hand, is horrible.

I got into Netflix a couple of months ago, and they haven't disappoint. Except for a few very rare and elusive titles, they seemed to have everything. Their amazing selection of titles is why I chose Netflix over Blockbuster online. Now I don't go to my local video stores except for occasional game rentals.
