I tend to disagree. A buddy of mine, playing as Nightcrawler, and myself, playing as Wolverine, could beat the game with a cumulative total of about six or seven dollars. In fact, I think that of that six or seven dollars, four or five of it was mine (assuming a cost of 25 cents per game...I remember that some arcades had a barbaric 50 cent cost). If my buddy died with Nightcrawler before the Juggernaut level, he considered it a bad first life. I would routinely not see him take any damage until the Wendigo level or beyond (I played this game far too much, I now realize).
The real quarter eater was actually the final battle with Magneto. Unless you're playing as nightcrawler, who can time his powers to avoid being hit with the electro blasts, you're pretty much doomed to die at least four or five times.
Of the long, multi player games out there, I tend to think the Dungeons/Dragons and Golden Axe series were the most rewarding for the skilled player.
