The demo is available, but good luck trying to play it. Ubisoft's servers are absolutely fucked...I spent a full hour trying to connect with a game, and didn't get to play even once.

Shouldn't Ubisoft have this kind of shit figured out by now? What the hell happened?
It's a demo of the online interface actually.
I actually got in relatively quickly but it's just not my cup of tea. I couldn't see shit even with the flashlight. I guess I might play the single player but this isn't my idea of multiplay fun.

>It's a demo of the online interface actually.

That has to be sarcasm. This world cannot be that fucking fucked.

Lumines Live is now on the Arcade......1200 points.....plus a 600 point content so you can change skins and music.

about f'n time...

Live was down for the last day, anyone know what they updated/changed?
So, is Lumines all it's cracked up to be? Is it as addictive and fun as they say? I've got the points, should I make the purchase?

I've been looking for that info myself. I've read there's going to be a dashboard update in November, this might have been the prelim...

I figured it had to do with the HDDVD release next month, and fixing some problems that people are having with the video attachment thingy.
Well I have seen alot of shit on the Xbox 360 but if this is true then this is without a doubt the most FUCKED UP THING EVER.

If you Buy the full version of Lumines you are actually only buying the trial version....This appears to be MS' plan

Lumines Live: 1200 points

Advanced pack: 600 points and gives you the advanced challenge mode(videos in the background and 20+ skins)

Mission/Puzzle pack: 400 points and gives you the remaining 45 LEVELS SINCE YOU ONLY GET 5 LEVELS EACH TO START WITH.

Versus CPU pack: 300 points and gives you the remaining 9 levels since you only get the first level to start with.

Oh and to top it.....NONE OF THESE PACKS ARE ON THE MARKETPLACE YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So if this is true......It will cost 2500 points to play the full version of Lumines....The greed has now reached Epic proportions and no matter how great this game is I will not buy it.
Hell, I hadn't decided if I wanted to spend 1200pts on the game at all, but if I don't get everything for that price than absolutely not.
Wow...that definately blows.

Does is still come in cheaper than the PSP version of Lumines 2?
If it ends up being 2500 points then it will cost $31.24

Lumines 2 for the PSP will cost 29.99

It's basically the same however it still does not justify the whole 1200 points for the initial full version that gives you less than half of the actual game
post #468 of 1071
***edit***

Read Malli's post wrong.

True, except one version requires product/shipping/retail costs, and the other is digitally transmitted.

I am annoyed by this price point, but that's the beauty of the free market: I now will not buy Lumines, when before I planned to.

So true....I was gonna pick it up but once I saw how extreme the greed was I decided to pass.....I hope that most people will do the same and send a clear message to MS that this kind of bullshit will not be tolerated.

I don't know if I'd call it "bullshit" to charge whatever you want for a product, but I imagine that enough people will pass that it will get their attention.
Now if Castle Crashers is say...around 30 bucks or less, I'll pay that. It's a totally new game from Behemoth, who made Alien Hominid, which is the best 2D shooter to come along in years. It will support 4 players and is reminisent of Guardian Hereos.

I played a demo of Lumines on PSP and just didn't care for it. So there's no way in hell I'm paying 32+ dollars for a 1.5 version of the game. It's basically the same game right? They just added videos, new music tracks, and some gameplay tweaks?

I want to know what happened to the rumored Geometry Wars sequel, that was supposed to have two player co-op? That's a must own for me, while I have internet at least.

Anyone know whats rumored to come out next? (Please let it be Contra!)

It not bullshit to charge for a product......However it is bullshit to charge for what is basically a Trial verison of a game.

I mean what's next......Mortal Kombat is released on the arcade for 800 points but if you want to do fatalities it'll cost you 100 points per character.....And i'm pretty sure that EA took one look at this and realized that they can pretty much release half a game now and charge people for the other half.....Hell I can't wait to see what they'll do to next year's madden.

Theres an interview in this month's EGM (Nov. issue) where this exact thing is discussed. The guy from EA says that they're going to charge for all kinds of stuff. Stadiums, different jerseys, cheat codes etc. All the little things they used to include with the regular price of the game. And don't expect the "original" version of the game to be any cheaper either. I'm sure we'll still see 60 dollar games, plus pay for play downloadable content, until a large majority of the public stops buying it.

I'm lucky in that I don't care about or play sports games, but if the after market downloads become too outrageous in other genres as well (GRAW's extra content was a little steep) then I won't buy those either.

I imagine after a while everyone will feel the burn and the plans that these companies have will fail. It will become a cycle. Over charging for content, then reverting to filling games with content for the regular price, and then back to releasing "unfinished" games and over charging for "content". It should be fun. Choose wisely.

Is Xbox Live still down for everybody?

Who's the fucking retard at Microsoft who scheduled a nationwide service shutdown for the day where both Splinter Cell and Lumines was launched? He'd better be standing in the unemployment line by now.

Yeah it's still down on my end.

I'm stunned at just how stupid M$ looks like right now.....I mean I looked past the clusterfuck that the launch was.....I dealt with the lack of quality titles for the first few months.....I dealt with the months of no XBLA games....I didn't buy the camera so I didn't care about the bungled launch of that.....But here we are a month before the launch of the PS3 and the Wii and M$ still can't seem to get their shit together on things.....I mean this maintenance isn't really bringing anything to the table and it's basically been down now for 2 DAYS.....They also decided to do this on the release date of a MAJOR 360 title as well as during the Beta test of a MMO game.

And then you have the fact that people are furious over the whole Lumines situation.....I mean people were pissed off when they thought they were just gonna have to pay extra for the Multiplayer....Now we find out we have to pay even more for the extras than for the "Full Version" of the game.

The official XBOX forums are down as well.....I can't wait for that to get back up and see the shitstorm that erupts there over everything that has happened in the last 2 days.

This really couldn't have come at a worse time.......And I really believe that there needs to be a major shakeup in the XBOX department of M$
post #478 of 1071
I agree with everything you just said, but there's still a bunch of great exclusive games coming out for the 360 this winter and nothing I'm interested in on the other next-gen systems. Microsoft already has the installed user base so they may be taking things a little for granted right now. I hope I'm wrong and that they have some big surprises lined up, and not just Gears of War.

Yeah there are great games supposedly coming but the damn system has been out for nearly a year and it's still a mess....They have taken things for granted all year because one they knew they were the only game in town and two they figured that Sony had shot themselfs in the foot so many times that they had this round completely wrapped up.

I'm just so disappointed with the way they have done things in their first year and now with the blatant greed that they and companies like EA are showing one has to think that it's only gonna get worse before it even remotely gets better.

Apparently the shitstorm has hit Major Nelson's site cause here is what you get when you try to post a message there.

That's great in order to post they have to be able to verify you gamertag......Which is tied to XBL.......WHICH ISN'T WORKING.

Talking about burying your head in the sand.......The guys at Sony have to be laughing their asses off right now.

EDIT......I finally was able to log in at 9:54pm
post #480 of 1071
I can log in now, but I get an error message when I try to download the trial version of Lumines.

I heard--no idea if this is confirmed or not--that the whole reason Live went down in the first place was so Xbox could institute some sort of unnecesary parental control feature. Why they felt the need to do this on the day of the first major 360 release in at least two months and the first significant Live Arcade release since Street Fighter...who knows.

I didn't even think about that. Granted, I have no interest in the game, but still, that's just shit planning.

As of 9:45 I still can't log in (although I could earlier today).

Alot of people are getting that download error with lumines....I was able to download it this morning but it took forever....and given how they plan on charging extra for the "FULL full version" i'll just stick with the "Free trial version"

I've also heard those rumors that the reason live went down was for the parental control features.....I do know that they have added some features to the "My Xbox" section of the Xbox.com site....Honestly I don't understand how these features could warrant XBL to be down for over 30 hours....much less on the release of two very significant release.

I agree with your comments about whoever decided that this shutdown should happen exactly at the same time of two major releases should be fired......and then there is this

We now know that this statement is a flat out bold faced lie.....Nelson's crediblity has been shredded over the last year and for me this was the final straw....I doubt they'll fire him but he's become the poster boy for the 360's problems and should be the first to go in a full house cleaning that is needed at Xbox.

I never thought I would say this.......But if Sony shows promise in the next six months and the 360 is still exactly as it is now......I'll be selling my Xbox for a PS3.

EDIT......OK NOW I'M BEYOND FUCKING PISSED.

I can connect to XBL and stay connected to XBL while i'm in the Dashboard.......But every time I try to start up a game(360 or XBLA) it disconnects me from live.

That's it.....I really want to see some heads roll for this stupidity.

EDIT PART 2.......XBL is completely down once again.
XBL is working fine for me. I'm getting my neck snap on in Splinter Cell.
It's a total clusterfuck on my end.

XBL came back up for me again about 15 minutes ago.......Yet that's only for the dashboard......Everytime I try to play a arcade game or regular game it disconnects me.

almost 40 hours down.....There better be a valid explaination from them over this.....And not some Major Nelson lecture about how we don't know what goes on......Which is exactly the point.....They never fucking tell us what the problem is and then get pissed off at the customers that demand to know what the problem is.

M$ better pray that the PS3 is a disaster.
Goddamn it, the Lumines demo is fun. It's a lot easier to boycott shitty games.

So help me out here: if you buy the "full" version, you get the entire single player game, right? But if you want to play the Mission or Puzzle modes (which seemed kind of annoying to me), that costs extra. And if you want videos in the background, that costs extra. And if you want to play versus the CPU, that costs extra.

But the BASIC SINGLE PLAYER GAME ITSELF...that's just fifteen bucks, right?

I've been wondering about this due to the fact that I have no intention of playing online so can I just play the single player of the trial version or does it end at some point.

However I just can't buy the full version on the principle of the extra and excessive charges.
well, from about 10 pm - 3 am west coast time, XBL was working pretty well. Splinter cell was having some occasional horrendous lag, but overall it was a smooth experience.

But I agree, there was no excuse for an outage THIS long. And seriously, would it kill them to do this over the weekend, BEFORE one of the AAA titles of the fall/winter comes out for your system?

They probably don't do it on the weekends because noone is at work.....But yeah it would make more sense for these shutdowns to happen like on sunday night or monday morning.
Don't know why anyone would be pissed about the 'rip-off' that occurs when you buy the core game. Just a solid product that delivers on decent puzzle gaming. Only barely eking out just less than 100k points wise...if I were prompted to at some point pay to play the later levels/skins that would mean I'd actually have to be good at the game in the first place.

For what it is right now, a pick up and play game that I use to pass the time while letting my pc do cpu intensive tasks, I consider it 1200 points well spent (as compared to that GRAW chapter 2 download). And really, who wants to go out and consciously add Madonna to their Lumines experience anyway?

But still it IS scummy to ship a game, any game, in sections and make people pay for the whole package - like those Sims games.
agreed with that. but i love lumines, so i didnt mind the "final" price.

1200 points is too much for what amounts to a healthy demo. I still play GRAW chapter 2 almost ever night for hours on end. I did think the price of chapter 2 was a little steep, but I've used it so much it's okay; which is I guess essentially the same thing you guys are saying about Lumines though so maybe that is mute. Although GRAW was a pretty fully jampacked release when it came out and not some 5 levels or whatever Lumines is.

We have to send a message to Microsoft and the developers by not buying games that aren't fully realized.
Doesn't the basic Lumines package come with twelve levels? Considering how I can't even get past the third level, that seems like plenty of content to sucky ol' me.
Now Available:

Ultimate MK3 - 800 Points (43.62 MB)
Tony Hawk's Project 8 Demo (342.53 MB)
Not much to say about THP8, you're either a fan or not. Character felt a little sluggish, but I'm assuming the demo was at lowest stats. I was pleased with my 2.5mil combo, although it's not even close to the 12mil top score.
When I bought my 360 I bought the core system with a memory card. I would like to go ahead and upgrade to the hard drive. I've never opened up a game system before, so is this complicated or basically a drop in? I also dont want to void the warranty on it. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
The hard drive should just snap on to the side. I've never actually seen a core in real life so I can't tell you exactly how it would work.

Your warranty will be fine.
I hope I never do see a core system. It'd be bad luck or something.
Like Malli said, you don't have to open anything, it just hooks to the side of the system. The process of going from not having to having a HD should take all of 30 seconds.
Holy crap, a Tony Hawk game that doesn't suck. Haven't seen those in quite a while.
Yeah this Tony Hawk has my money already. The new whatever they call it zoom in system is pretty awesome and the graphics are a lot nicer and a huge streaming world sounds to good to be true. I may trade in a few to get it, but I'm getting it for sure.
