Avoid BLAIR WITCH 2. Awful.

If anyone can find the EVIL THAT MEN DO trailer online. Check it out (or link?). The one on the DVD was hilariously awesome!!! (Love those old school ones)

Today: Watch ROLLERBALL with my dad. (I gotta give thanks, when I was kid he sat me down in front of movies like this---made me the movie-and action movie--fan I am today!)

I like Blair Witch 2...

Rollerball... Haven't seen the original, but the remake was lame.
I like Blair Witch 2 also. It's a cool little "is this reality or isn't it?" type of flick. Apparently Artisan didn't like what the director did with the flick, and re-edited it to have the interrogation scenes which were initially at the end, to be interspersed with the running narrative, thus making it seem like the movie happens in flashback.

Still dug the movie a lot. I own it too.

The original Rollerball is tops. picked it up at the local Movie Gallery liquidation for a buck. I loved the climactic rollerball sequence. Just Caan and the other player rolling along, the audience is dead silent. Just the sound of the skates on the track. Awesome.

Blair Witch 2? Jumper? Has the B-Action Movie Thread finally hit the wall?
No Jim, it's just a little bit of off topic conversation. As you can tell, it's been a bit slow in the action dept. in the movies that are being released thus far, but don't fret conversation should pick up soon. Here I'll start it off. Caught a tv spot for Wanted last night. Y'know, it's piqued my interest enough to catch it if it hits the Drive-In. Plus the girlfriend really wants to see it.

That said, later I'm having me a Philo Beddoe double feature. "Right turn Clyde."
I actually liked Blair Witch 2. Erica Leesham plays a cute Witch. The reality twist at the end was kinda intriguing as well.

Sadly enough the only ROLLERBALL I've seen was the John McTiernan version. I could tell it was awlful even during my first viewing. They even has the astounding ability of making Rebecca Romjin look ugly with all that eyeliner and makeup.

God help us! Was there ever a good Chris Klein movie.
McTiernan... how did he fuck that up? No Schwarzenegger or Willis is my answer.
Saw the trailer for Anderson's Death Race. Yeah, it looks like it's going to be one fun popcorn flick. I'm definitely going to see it when it comes out.
It looks okay. I haven't seen the original, but hopefully the "races" are exciting. I got a Doomsday vibe from it, so hopefully it ends up being better than the hate that's coming down on it.
I got a Doomsday vibe from the trailer as well. I rented the vhs back in 2002 or 2003 of the original, and it's a pretty good flick in it's own right. I'm just not really hard up on it and hating on this new remake like others. It's pretty much a loose remake of the the original anyway. It's just another one of those "if they called it something else nothing would be wrong" situations.
What disturbs me about this new version is that the Races seem to be fairly localized instead of having the fun of going nationwide. It's got a Doomsday feel to it but I still have some reservations about this.
the localization is definitely a hinder. I could only imagine that this would look more like the proposed Mad Max 4 if it went nationwide. I would have loved to have seen that.
Strangely enough, I am looking forward to Transporter 3 more than Death Race. It's still has a 2008 release right? It's funny that we haven't even gotten a synopsis with the release date just months away.
Love Staham, love car combat, I will be there. Hope I'm not wrong, I usually hate Paul WS Anderson's direction though, and I also made the huge mistake of going to The Happening (one the worst movies I've ever seen) recently. So my deduction of whether or not a movie will be good by trailer only may be suspect now.

Still Death Race has to be better than The Happening so there's always that. Maybe if we get a red band trailer that would help (I'd also like one for Punisher).

p.s. also looking forward to Transporter 3 on Turkey Day!

Yeah it is rather odd. It's scheudled to come up on November 26th of this year, and yet there's only been the aforementioned teaser trailer put out so far; there is the story that it's apparently going to be set in Paris, but that's it.
I was actually sort of into seeing The Happening. The trailer looked interesting enough, then I read the "spoilers" in the post release thread. Well, either way it was going to be a dollar movie for me anyway.

The one that I'm most looking forward to is Crank 2. When's that one coming out? 2009?
I'd predict that since Lionsgate is releasing TRANSPORTER 3 in November that they'll probably put CRANK 2 out sometime in the spring of '09, maybe March or April. They're not going to want those two put out too close to one another. Just a guess, but it's definitely gonna be in '09.

The non-cross country aspect of the new DEATH RACE doesn't bother me at all. That complaint seems similar to the "Zombies shouldn't run" complaint that some had against the DAWN OF THE DEAD remake. The actual ground rules of the race seems like a silly thing to concentrate on.
I wonder why CRANK 2 is set for 2009. Judging from the reports, photography and major filming should be done about now. Isn't a Oct/Sept Release date possible?

Another 2009 Release that sounds interesting is Stiletto. It stars Tom Berenger, Michael Biehn and Stana Katic.

"A methodical female assassin (Stana Katic) is stalking and killing members of a ruthless criminal organization. The killer, a mysterious young Russian woman, dispatches her victims with Black Widow brutality, working her way through the ranks of thugs, and drug dealers. One of her victims survives. A wealthy, retired crime boss, Virgil. He shares a past with the Russian Woman and her betrayal breaks his heart. Furious and paranoid, Virgil cannot trust even his closest associates. So, he enlists a crooked homicide detective, Beck, to track her down before the police get to her."

And it is.

Do NOT let your curiosity get the best of you.

It starts out ok, but the acting kills it and the action isn't very interesting if you've already seen the trailers. Plus I really can't emphasize enough how completely devoid of charisma Rachel Bilson is. She was horrible in The Last Kiss, and she was even worse here.

Funny someone mentioned Rollerball since I was just watching it the other idea. I still can't get over how in the name of Chris Klein's penciled on beard that somebody thought the green filter lit scenes were a GOOD idea.
STILETTO is definitely one I'm keeping an eye on, I know for sure William Forsythe is in it and maybe even Tom Sizemore as well depending on how reliable IMDB is. There really hasn't been any news of late as to when it will come out.

Statham has DEATH RACE in late August and TRANSPORTER 3 in late November. Sandwiching CRANK 2 in between wouldn't be smart at all and it's not gonna happen. Plus, the guys who wrote and directed CRANK and CRANK 2 also have GAME with Gerard Butler in the can which I would bet will be released prior to CRANK 2.

Here's a short article about GAME from the July issue of Empire:

It's a three legged race. So, there is opportunity for some variation.
KABLE! I guess they didn't want to infringe on the crappy marvel character. Don't really understand the movie 100% percent, though. Is this a VIRTUOSITY thing? Gerard's a real guy that's somehow stuck inside a video game?
As I understand it it's a virtual game where humans control other human players. Butler is I guess trying to take down the game from the inside.

Terry Crews is in it!
I'm kind of disappointed that Gerard's character doesn't have a crazier name. The first character name announced was Milo Ventimilglia's "RICK RAPE".
STILETTO does sound interesting.

I wish CRANK 2 was out this year. I can stand to wait for the further adventures of Frank Martin but I need to see the next chapter in the life of Chev Chelios RIGHT NOW!
So I went over to the girlfriend's place, and she's just about to watch a movie. The movie? Kiss Of The Dragon. Needless to say, I had a blast as I love that flick. She had never seen it, and ended up really digging it. Can't get enough of Tcheky Karyo as Richard, and Ric "Take me to heaven!" Young in his cameo as the heroin dealer Sung.

Also, I know this was posted some time back, but isn't it universally accepted that Gary Busey as Mr. Joshua, the best Lethal Weapon villain? I know someone posted an article where he talked about it being his comeback, and that he had lost about 60 pounds or so. Made sense, since he was pretty large in Silver Bullet, and looked svelte in Lethal Weapon.

And yeah, Stiletto sounds really cool. It has Tom Berenger and Michael Biehn! That immediately puts it on my watch list.
Message board posters never cease to amaze me.

I never thought I would ever see such vehement defense of the original Death Race movie, which for all intents and purposes is a fun little diversion, but it aint fucking (cult) scripture.

Does anyone in the modern day movie going public even recognize that there was an earlier Death Race (until whatever studio owns the rights releases the obligatory SPECIAL EDITION DVD with Stallone's face emblazoned over the cover)?
I love the original DEATH RACE but that doesn't mean I don't want to see a new one that's full of insane vehicular carnage and has Joan Allen being a complete cunt. To me those elements together could make for a perfectly dandy way to spend an August afternoon.

Berenger is experimenting with a whole new look for STILETTO!

William Forsythe is playing it more conservative. Hey look! It's Carmine Sr. from "The Sopranos:"

Forsythe looks like he's playing an older version of his character from THE ROCK.

"What do you have, a fuckin' water pistol?!"
Berenger and Forsthye never friggin' age. Love the white hair that Berenger is sporting.

I can't believe this vicious backlash against Death Race either. I was prepared to see a really shitty trailer, and ended up really wanting to see the flick. It looks really awesome. Cars with machine guns on them modified up the wazoo. I really don't get it.
I also love the snark directed at having hot female prisoners be the navigators. Huh? Do we really want realistic looking female prisoners fulfilling this job? Not sure I'd enjoy Statham being helped out by some Aileen Wuornos-looking broad.
Yeah, that's about the only unrealistic casting that would be good. Butch is not the word. Unless it's Butch Patrick.

Kiss of the Dragon was one of the better Jet Li films out there. There's plenty of action, but I found the brutality of the Tcheky character pretty hard to stomach. Also Bridget Fonda sure cries up a storm in this movie. I sure felt for her character.

"Do you have any Barbies?"
"All my Barbies are at work."

I love that line. Richard has all the best lines in the movie.

"I had a turtle, but your mommy stole it."

"What is our miserable history compared to yours?"

Also when he talks about the Chinese needing to send a cop since the French are so incompetent. I still think this is the best that Besson's produced thus far. Transporter 2 is the next best.
I live in a student house so naturally we decorated the livingroom with some 'art'. One of my housemates works at the local cinema so he kept bringing home new posters, and then we found a shop that sold lobby cards/promotional stills/magazine cutouts.

We soon decided to have 'themed' walls and of course, we had to have an 'Action Wall'.

Yeah that's the SHOOT EM UP poster you can barely see the bottom of. I didn't get a 'master shot' but the Action Wall has CRANK, SHOOT EM UP and RAMBO in a triangle of awesomeness.

There's some other action shots dotted around the room such as Roger Moore in 007 mode guarding the door and Hans and his cronies exiting the Nakatomi elevator.

But I saved the best picture to go above my bedroom door. Protecting me as I sleep is...

I'm gonna miss that room, but we're definitely taking the action stuff to the next house. Onward and upward!

P.S. A pre-emptive apology if these pics are obscenely big or stretch the page or anything.
They're pretty great, Russell! I really want to see the one of Hans and co. exiting the elevator. Love the Xenia squeezing Bond one. And the face to pussyface between Glover and the Predator.

I am a little confused by that remark, Eko.

Besson has produced lots of great films. DISTRICT B13, YAMAKASI, THE BIG BLUE and the TAXI series are just some of them.

I agree that KISS OF THE DRAGON is a good film, but its common knowledge that TRANSPORTER 2 is just cartoony crap. There're a few nice fight scenes but the sequel really pales in comparison to its predeccesor.

The body count thread and mention of Hard Boiled made me go and dig up this little piece of awesome action-scene montage from the film...

Poetry in motion.
Speaking of HK Action films. I think you should try Warriors of Heaven and Earth.

It's a sort of Chinese Western. Set during the Tang Dynasty. An exiled soldier, a princess , a Japanese assasin and their bunch of followers musrt band together to protect and deliver a priceless Buddhist relic to the Imperial Capital. Fighting against ruthless Turks along the way.

Here's the trailer

I had a weekend of Seagal/b-movie action. I bought the book Seagalogy, which I'm almost done with, but its definitely the funniest book I've ever read. I sadly had to break my longtime Wal Mart boycott to get the new Genesis: When In Rome dvd (which you could only get there), and while I was there, I saw some double and triple feature Seagal dvd sets. I got one with Marked for Death (one of my all time favs, just never owned it)/Mercenary for Justice, and the triple feature set had Black Dawn/Belly of the Beast/Half Past Dead.

I haven't watched the DTV ones I got yet, but I watched Marked for Death. One of the all time greats I REDEE YOU REDEE BUMBA CLOT BLOOD AND FIRE!!! Then I watched Death Wish 3.
District 13 was WAY better than Transporter 2 oh and Forsythe looks like Brolin in American Gangster. Almost uncanny.
Another reminder that Punisher Warzone is TOTALLY HARDCORE BRAH!!

Quote:
I'm not sure what kind of impression I would get from this trailer if I didn't actually know the film. I am utterly impressed, though, they managed to find that much PG rated action footage at all. It had to be a challenge to cut a trailer from our action stuff without showing any gore and blood.
I hope its gory as hell and that all the gore is CGI because I love that stuff!
Holy shit! That picture of Berenger is sad. (What a drag it is getting old!)

As for the new DEATHRACE. I'm offended PS Anderson is making it. No confidence in him what so ever. (I even hate EVENT HORIZON). People who don't get the love for the original need to check it out again. It's smart, funny, and cool as hell.

And I didn't think anyone liked Blair Witch 2! I put it in my top ten worst movies!
Paul Anderson is no world-beater but I don't think he's as bad as everyone likes to believe. AVP is awful, no doubt it. But aside from that there's SOLDIER which I enjoy. Then you've got MORTAL KOMBAT and RESIDENT EVIL which I only saw once, but were okay for what they were trying to accomplish. EVENT HORIZON I've never seen all the way through. I started watching it once but clicked it off because it wasn't playing well on basic cable.

In closing I feel that his greatest crime is having a name similar to a director that geeks love.

I know of the Taxi series, but I haven't seen them. District B13 is a fun romp, but I guess in retrospect, I'd put it up there too with his best produced films. I really ended up liking Transporter 2 because it was just that. Cartoony. Really reminded me of an old school 80's action flick. Just without the blood and gore. Something I hope to see plenty of in a red band trailer for Punisher: War Zone. CGI or not, I don't care. I just hope that these guys aren't getting our hopes up for nothing.

Gotta disagree. His baggage is his ineptitude. EVENT HORIZON, RESIDENT EVIL, & SOLDIER surely would've been better in more capable hands (even potential classics). The original DEATHRACE 2000 was legendary partly for it's satirical wit; Anderson is famous for having none.
It pisses me off that he keeps getting handed potential geek titles while masters like Walter Hill , Monte Hellman, & John Milius can't get a job!
I like Jason Statham so I might see this remake. But not with high hopes.
Event Horizon is a really good sci-fi/horror flick. I caught it in the theater, and remember it being pretty disturbing in some parts. Mortal Kombat is still one of the best videogame adaptations. Soldier is a fun flick, also, and Resident Evil could have been better, but what it ended up still wasn't that shabby either. Also, I may be one of the only ones who actually didn't mind AVP either. So until he does a movie that I'd outright hate (Castlevania I'm looking at you!) he hasn't done a flick yet that haven't at least thought was ok.
He's just middle-of-the road. I can't muster up a lot of fake-rage toward him outisde of AVP. There are tons of better directors out there but at the same time I'm probably more confident in his abilities than I would be in say Rob Cohen or Stephen Sommers.

Come on, Molt!
DEEP RISING & THE MUMMY (even FAST AND THE FURIOUS) are better than anything Anderson has ever done!
