I’d say if you’re looking for one that you can enjoy and laugh at your options are the following:

ARMY OF ONE: A great flick, with George Seagal providing the laughs as a bastard corrupt cop.

SHOWDOWN IN LITTLE TOKYO: More funny and violent than any film has a right to be.

ON DEADLY GROUND: Come for the action, stay for the hilarious environmental message.

HARD TO KILL: I’m on a Senator Trent kick right now, so I’ll throw this one in there.

HARLEY DAVIDSON AND THE MARLBORO MAN: The title alone makes me laugh.

THE SUBSTITUTE: Some of the sequels are fun, but nothing beats Berenger and an all-star cast in the original.

STONE COLD: You won’t find it on disc, but this is one film where I wouldn’t let that get in the way of watching it.

BEST OF THE BEST 2: The disc is available on Region 1 in Canada, but I’d again wager that it is enjoyable no matter what format you’re forced to view it.

Thanks a lot. Not often you get a straight answer round these parts.

It looks like a pretty smooth production, but the cast and presentation say DTV to me.
"Dirty" actually looks really good IMO, Cuba playing the Alonzo Harris type role from "Training Day" and all. Even from the trailer alone he was already starting to erase the "Snow Dogs" and "Radio" persona he'd been developing.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I picked this up shortly after Christmas at Wal-Mart for $3.88! Great deal.
That's the deal of the decade. It was actually the first disc I ever bought, even before I had a player. It was $15 which back then seemed like a steal. I still hold out hope for a SE.

I just saw the trailer for DIRTY and it looks like it might be a decent flick. I know Cole Hauser and Keith David have small roles and I'm a sucker for those type of cop flicks. I'm not a huge Gooding fan, but maybe he can pull at least half a Denzel and I'll be satisfied.

It's got Keith David so it can't be too bad.

Are you saying there's no hope for Boat Trip 2?

Here's the (small) cover for End Game:

Stone Cold is a film that challenges and surprises the viewer. In one scene, the boz starts dumping a bunch of random shit into a blender, so you assume he's making himself a typical "Cop on the ragged edge milkshake".

Then he pours the shake into a bowl and feeds it to his Komodo Dragon.
MIND BLOWING.

I also think William Forsythe got his hands on that Alien gun from I COME IN PEACE. He uses it to shoot beer cans.
I guess Craig R. Baxley likes to make subtle references to his other films. He's a lot like Tarantino that way.
Why do you hate him, DVD format?

A shitty fullscreen dvd for ACTION JACKSON and no US releases for I COME IN PEACE or STONE COLD? Unacceptable.

That gun freaking owns, I remember when I first saw that movie, and the gun fires bullets like it has infinite ammo. Kinda like Caine's gun in Robocop 2 at the end.
It's a sad state of affairs when Baxley's greatest triumphs can't be purchased at fine retailers, but his Stephen King TV movies can. "Rose Red?" I bet there is not one biker named Gut in "Rose Red," or "The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer" for that matter.

That gun was awesome, the thing was bigger than Brian Benben.

If you have a region free player you can get I Come in Peace and Stone Cold for reasonable prices from Amazon.

I actually haven't seen either one yet. Wouldn't mind watching Action Jackson again. It's been a long time. Sigh. In the good old days these films were on cable all the time.

I bought the region 2 "dark angel" dvd. As for Stone Cold, I think it's only available in germany and it's fullscreen? I'd probably have to overpay for it, so I'll just stick with my VHS.

Stone Cold is actually available in widescreen for about $20 from Amazon Japan. Plus shipping of course... Not having seen it yet, I don't know just how much the Boz is worth.

Does someone have Terminator envy?

Of course, finding the decent B-action movies, especially the DTV-era ones can be somewhat difficult. Stick withtalnt whose work you've enjoyed before, even inf it's on a so bad it's good level. Though I myself have a low camp/kitsch tolerance (yet I can not get enough of things like Showdown in Little Tokyo). For every decent DTV flick, there are at least a dozen total bores, grade z quickies with sub-cable access tv production values or somewhat more professional looking pieces that have all the flash and excitement of watching a documentary on cheesemaking showing on your local PBS station.

That said, I'd like to recommend a few DTV flicks that I feel aren't horrible, and attempt to not recommend something already recommended in this thread, except for my first suggestion, 2003's Special Forces starring Marshall Teague.

Back In Action Starring Rod Piper (truly a stamp of quality) and Billy Blanks some years before Tae-Bo. One's a cop...a cop on the edge. A maverick cop who doesn't play by the rules, and so on.. One's an ex-Special Forces operator now eking out a living for himself and his whiny sister cab-driving. They both come into conflict while Billy Blanks goes looking for his missing whiny sister, whose sleazy boyfriend disobeyed his gangster boss and decided to hide out with her instead of whacking her for maybe having seen too much. Some nice visceral hand to hand, and shootouts and splosions too. An early shootout (in the old action film cliche The Bust That Goes Horribly Wrong) contains enough blam-blam for a lot of DTV flicks' climaxes. Plus unintentional hilarity, like Piper clotheslining Blanks and then telling him to "keep [his] fat ass down".

Hard Justice a '95 DTV flick starring David Bradley (uh, yeah. Him.) as an ATF agent who goes undercover in a prison to find out who murdered another undercover agent, and discovers warden Charles Napier's turned the place into point on a black-market gunrunning pipeline. Needless to say, we get to this after the sqib-a-riffic opening Bust That Goes Wrong Resulting in Agnst For Our Hero, which manages to riff on Woo without being too annoying. Plus we have some unintentional hilarity and Vernon Wells as a convict called Galaxy 500 and a brief, uncredited appearance by Prof. Toru Tanaka. Things to look for, note how many times character two-gun it, like Napier and Bradley shooting at each other, Bradley with a pistolo in each hand, Napier wielding a pair of Mac-10s (at one point striding through rioting prisoners, mowing them down while shouting "I WILL HAVE ORDER!") down in the basement Bradley being shot at by his Asian gangster nemsis wielding an M-16 in each hand ("AH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA") while his goons do similar with their own firearms, etc. plus a Dangling Helicopter Strut Fight, followed by a helicopter/bus chase. And they could afford a helicopter for this movie, not just a model or what have you.

I've seen that, but I don't think they ship to the US.
That cover is so weak. The bootleg one I got off Ebay is similar:

The main difference being that Michael Douglas gets his name even higher than Bosworth. Apparently Douglas was a co-producer but it's a bit of a stretch to say he's "presenting" STONE COLD.
Douglas probably met the boz at a mullet convention or something.

I like that the official release includes the horrible/fantastic tagline.
HE'LL BURN YOU COLD.

You've ordered from the site? Because When I tried, my usual amazon email/password didn't work. Then when I tried to create a new account, I couldn't enter a US zip code and could only choose from Japanese 'prefectures'. No place to enter a city, country or state.

For whatever reason U.S. Amazon accounts are not compatible with Amazon Japan, so one does need to sign up again. I haven't had anything sent to the states yet, but I have ordered from there before. When you place an order you come to a page that says:

"Enter a new shipping address
When finished, click the "Continue" button
"

Directly below that prompt there's another line that says:

"Or enter overseas address"(the red part is written in Japanese)

Click on that link and it will take you to a page that allows you to enter a U.S. address.

Now in Stone Cold's case it appears the item is only available from 3rd party sellers, and I don't know whether they ship abroad (although I would guess they do). I know individual Japanese Yahoo Auction sellers rarely ship abroad. Bastards.

I've seen a little of it, and wondered why Cuba wasn't the hero instead of this nobody white dude. Looked sort of generic. For me the film is memorable for giving us Warrant's righteous cover of Queen's We Will Rock You.

Yeah that guy was James Marshall, aside from Twin Peaks the tv show, and the movie, I've never seen him in anything else. I didn't even know that was him until I looked up the dvd cover and saw him on it.

I just ordered it from Amazon Japan (after the hassle of creating a new account since they seemed to have misplaced my old one from 2 years ago - too bad they no longer have the 500 Yen discount for new sign-ups) for $28 shipped using the cheapest option (which says "3~4 weeks", but they tend to arrive in less than 2 to the West Coast). I must be out of my damn mind. Now I await the inevitable announcement of the R1 release.

I just started working at Blockbuster and we get 5 free rentals a week as part of a "familiarization program".

First movie I picked up? Showdown in Little Tokyo.

THANK YOU. Not only was it one of the greatest action movies I've ever seen, it introduced my fucking lady friend to Dolph, who she now has an obscene crush on.

Good Work!

She's a keeper. Glad you dug SHOWDOWN.

Well it ends tonight. Spike TV is premiering Seagal's 2004 film OUT OF REACH, the only film of his I haven't seen (not counting a Korean film he had a small role in named CLEMENTINE), tonight at 8. From everything I've heard OUT OF REACH is one of his typical recent eye soars. It passed me by when it first came out on disc but I suppose if I can suffer through all the other junk he's made lately I can prepare to take it in the shorts one more time.

I am surprised Spike TV is showing this. I was under the impression that they were the designated Van Damme network, while USA was the home of Seagal's recent duds. It must be some kind of paperwork error. A friend of mine said Spike has been running an ad for this premiere in which they theorize what life must have been like for Seagal as a small child in grade school.

What about My Giant?
I recorded that once and just watched the Seagal scenes. If you ask me Billy Crystal should have dumped George Muresan and just called it MY SEAGAL. Those 2 could have been the next Arnold/Devito duo.

Wow, that would have been a monster franchise. Although I don't know if Crystal would consent to having various limbs broken as Seagal's stuntmen have in the past.

My Giant must have come out in Seagal's transitional period between asskicker and buffetbuster. I wonder if the ominous changes were already evident.
As I recall he didn't look like he was on his current diet of Mounds bars and pork ribs. All I know is if those 2 could have made a better go of it we might have ended up with a flick where Seagal is pregnant, or at the very least one where Seagal has to transport Crystal to testify at a mob trial with hilaroius results.

As a huge Seagal fan I'd watch just about anything with the big guy, but I draw the line at watching Crystal impregnate him. Even though he is looking more and more like Ned Beatty these days.
At the time i think Seagal was bulking up for his role in the PATRIOT.
I just had to post this and see if anyone had ever heard this HILARIOUS story before. I don't know how many of you are martial artists/into the martial arts, but I was perusing a site called bullshido.net and in one of the threads on aikido, someone mentioned that Steven Seagal had been choked out on the set of Under Siege by Judo Gene LeBell. Not only was he choked out, but apparently, he also shit his pants. This is just too awesome not to spread around, even if it's not true. Here are some links to check out:

http://www.bullshido.net/forums/show...0&page=1&pp=15

http://www.aikiweb.com/forums/showpo...3&postcount=90

http://www.genelebell.com/

If anyone else can confirm this, please do. This enhances my appreciation of Under Siege a hundred fold.

That's a great story if true. My only question would be how do we know he shit his pants because of Gene Lebell, it could have easily been the sight of seeing Gary Busey in a dress.

Thanks for the great story. A poster on steven-seagal.net (which I uh, never look at) had the following to say:

Quote:
Having heard of the LeBell incident (my teacher was on the 1964 U.S. Olympic Judo team, knew, trained with and even fought Judo Gene LaBell) I had heard that Wall was present at the choking incident. I asked Wall about what happened between Seagal and LeBell.

He confirmed the following to me:

1. Gene LeBell was working as a Stunt Coordinator/Director, not a stunt man (LeBell is an old man--late 60's or even 70);

2. Gene LeBell was working on the "Under Siege" set;

3. The incident was caused due to Seagal "bragging" about how, through his training, he could not be choked out or rendered unconscious. He did "invite" (not so much of a challenge) anyone in the group of stunt men to "try;"

4. Gene LeBell, a once world-class Judo player and professional wrestler, accepted the offer;

5. LeBell choked out Seagal in about 6 seconds (no surprise to me).

6. When unconscious, Seagal lost bladder control and soiled his pants (I have had this happen to me, so, no surprise to me).

Wall went on to speak about how he challenged Seagal to a fight and "Faced him down." Not surprising. If a budoka is challenged, they will certainly avoid a senseless fight. I have done so a number of times and see no shame in "not accepting a challenge."

Another Seagal fight incident was conveyed to me by a good friend who was the Security Director at an upscale night club in New York City. He told me that he SAW Seagal challenge a professional, mixed martial artist only to get knocked out (a 1-punch fight). My friend said he had both parties ejected. Now, I can't say that this is true, because I didn't see it myself. However, I do believe that "something" happened due to the fact I trust my friend.
I guess we can only cross our fingers that video of the pants-soiling exists somewhere.

More Seagal goodness:

Here's a thread with a post talking of another Seagal beatdown:

And here's a thread where the President of Gene LeBell Enterprises confirms the Seagal-LeBell throwdown:

http://www.mma.tv/TUF/index.cfm?ac=L...D=556050&FID=1

God, if only someone had this stuff on video. It'd be better than any of his movies of the last.......well, ever.

Has anyone mentioned Christopher Lambert yet? I'm too lazy to look.

If not then there is much work to be done...
