I was going to ask what Hunter was talking about... then I came across this article, which confirms what caused him to Hulk out.

A Good Day To Die Hard? Jesus H. Christ!

Suddenly, Live Free Or Die Hard doesn't seem so bad now...

HunterTarantino, That is...Awesome news about...Taken 2!  I simply do not care about any...New, Die Hard Films!

Cover shot and some news on THE EXPENDABLES: EXTENDED DIRECTOR'S CUT which will be released on 12/13:

Quote:
The Expendables Extended Director's Cut includes 11 additional minutes over the theatrical cut. It also includes a newly recorded introduction by its writer, director and star Sylvester Stallone; a featurette on Stallone and his directing career; 'Inferno,' a feature-length behind-the-scenes documentary that provides a unique perspective on the filmmaking process from Stallone's distinctive point of view; Spike TV program 'Action: The Expendables;' and a Sully Erna of Godsmack music video. A digital copy will also be included.

Wonder if this being an "Extended Director's Cut" means it will differ a bit from the "Extended" version that has played on cable.

Into 5 mins of Dolph's Command Performance now. Wow, this doesn't look like DTV at all. Great Production values and Rock music.

As you may know, I loved Command Performance.  It's certainly flawed in that it isn't as big as it should be, but I think it's amongst Dolph greater filmography.

Oooooh, when is that set to come out?

Damn it, I was just going to post about this!  Anyhow, I hope it is a bit different in that I hope he doesn't lay down that rock track over the final shootout.

Also, why is that Godsmack guy even involved with this?

What a DIE HARD title. Give Duke Fleed 100 tries and he'll end up with 100 better ones, I swear.

Great to see Expendables 2 come along, but I happen to have a question for a different battlefield.

Does anyone know what Ventura's special suit would have been able to? Are there knives on the front? Sadly, he just throws it on the ground and never gets to use it, but it bugs me to know end, not to know. I want a late explanation, to close this, just like Sly came up and told us how the toilet works in Demo Man.

Those damm suits. They don't know what the fuck they are doing.

Loved that THE EXPENDABLES: EXTENDED DIRECTOR'S CUT Cover.

Edit- 20th Century Fox has just released the synopsis for Taken 2.

"Liam Neeson returns as Bryan Mills, the retired CIA agent with a particular set of skills who stopped at nothing to save his daughter Kim from Albanian kidnappers. When the father of one of the kidnappers swears revenge, and takes Bryan and his wife hostage during their family vacation in Istanbul, Bryan enlists Kim to help them escape, and uses the same advanced level of special forces tactics to get his family to safety and systematically take out the kidnappers one by one."

Pretty sure the suit was just junk made to look neat for ratings, which is why Captain Freedom was so against it.  He didn't need it; just his "bear hands" (yes, I read his words as "bear" and not "bare").

I like it!  Oh, and how about that.  The bad guys in the first one were Albanian.  Guess I missed that bit of trivia.  I thought they were Afghani or Saudi for some reason.

Hold on a second. Wasn't Bryan divorced in the first film? Please tell me we get a new wife in this one.

He enlists Kim? What about Leland Orser and Jon Gries? I think they'd be more than up to the task of helping out.

As far as "the wife" is concerned, it might be someone new. Though, given the events of the first film, it's also entirely possible that Stuart ultimately lost the dick-measuring contest.

Also... Since there doesn't seem to be an official subtitle, can we just keep referring to it as TAKEN 2 - RENDEZVOUS please?

I don't hate the new Die Hard title. It's not good by any means, and I much prefer Die Hard: RED TERROR or Die Hard: Dovsidanya Tovarisch. Although I agree that it makes Live Free Or Die Hard seem like a classic. I can just see how they will integrate it into the trailers and tv spots. "Valentine's Day will be A GOOD DAY.....TO DIE HARD!"

That artwork for The Expendables: Extended Director's cut looks awesome, and I will be picking it up.

I'm really hoping that there's a joke in Taken 2 that has Famke Janssen saying that Stuart lost the dick measuring contest, and Liam Neeson does that great smile.

The way Trench gets included in The Expendables 2 would be cool if he's on vacation, and he gets roped in by accident. Even better would just be if he just wears Hawaiian shirts all the time.

Time to play catch-up.....

- Awesome on Taken 2 hitting screens next fall and I like the premise.

- I don't really have a problem with the Die Hard 5 title.  I certainly like it better than the previously rumored "Die Hard 24/7".  I guess we are getting long titles now for our second trilogy of Die Hard flicks.

- Fall/Winter 2012 is way too crowded for them to release DH5 then and I don't think they'd want to wait a year and a half after production wraps to put it out in Summer 2013.  Early 2013 makes sense and Valentine's Day is as good a weekend as any.

- With DH5 shooting first, I wonder if they are waiting for Robert Schwentke so that he can do Red 2?  After all, it was originally supposed to shoot BEFORE Willis did DH5, which would have meant that neither Schwentke or Mary-Louise Parker could return.

- Glad that The Expendables DC is coming out in December.  I was afraid we'd have to wait until July of next year.

Stallone and/or the producers asked two groups to contribute new songs to the film:  Shinedown ("Diamond Eyes") and Sully Erna ("Sinner's Prey").  Both songs were used in the trailers, but neither appeared in the finished film or on the soundtrack.  I know the Shinedown song has been reinserted into the extended cut and I'm guessing Erna's has as well if the music video is on this release.

Saw Halloween III for the upteenth time. Still a classic, and only Donald Pleasance's acting in part II keeps it a hair over III, but I do have days where part III is my favorite of the sequels.

Watching House Of The Dead II right now. Remember seeing it as a Sci-fi channel premiere way back. It's a decent action horror film. It's certainly not as terribly awesome as the first one, which I also proudly own, but it's got the lovely Emanuelle Vaughier, and she's really easy on the eyes. Plus it also has James Parks sleazing it up and talking about fucking a zombie corpse if he couldn't get a disease from it.

Halloween II and III are both underrated (particularly the latter) and both are practically 95% Carpenter films.  He might not have directed them (or in H2's case, all of it), but his stamp is all over every aspect of both projects.

It's too bad we never got the Halloween IV that he and Debra Hill were working on back in the day.

Anyway, I watched Second-In-Command earlier and had a very hard time paying attention to it.  Van Damme seemed bored with the film and he certainly wasn't alone in that regard.  Definitely not one of the good ones (though not nearly as bad as Derailed or The Order).

The Order wins me over with Sofia Milos, Charlton Heston, the Citroën used in the car chase (this car's a classic!) and Van Damme dressed as a Rabbi and saying "Aye fahted"

The Order is entertaining for the reasons you mentioned, but at this point I still say it is his worst movie out of what I have seen.  Derailed is pretty hilariously awful as well, whereas Second-In-Command is just plain dull.

I think those 2 are the only ones out of his DTV films that I still haven't seen. Need to fix that.

Wished there was a Buck Flower action figure over on Facebook. I really would want one. Preferably a talking one.

This will be of interest to some. There's a Troma movie that Troma acquitted called Video Vixens. It's about an awards show that is televised nationally, and a lot of it is sleazy x-rated commercials for stuff called MINUTE MERKIN, KENTUCKY DILDO and other various stuff featuring lovely shapely women. They even have those ladies who have "the commercial jingle voice". Makes it even more hilarious. Entire movie plays like a more deranged and sleazy Kentucky Fried Movie.

Anyway, one segment features a director who wants to bang a woman on film. The director? BUCK FLOWER. You see him strip and he gets FULL FRONTAL before he mounts the scared woman and has his bored and yawning crew film the scene. After it's quickly over he says "YOU'VE JUST BEEN BALLED BY AN ARTIST!" So if you've ver had a desire to see Buck Flower getting it on, that movie will meet your requirements.

I went to YouTube and got a listen of "Sinner's Prey" and can confirm it as the song that plays over the cast credits for the extended cut of the movie.  I guess I thought it was another Shinedown song.

Ha at the Citroen reference. I looked online and as I figured you were talking about their most famous (and distinctive car) the DS. If you remember, it's the car Tony Montana was in when he and those sleazy guys were going to blow up that dude who was going to go to the UN. That car is awesome due to how bizarre and yet way ahead of the time it was.

What else you said about that movie made me laugh.

Oh, and what you said about Buck Flower... only you, Rene. As I'd rather not see Tommy Wallace's tallywacker, I think I'll take a pass on Video Vixens.

Here's a link to the new trailer for ACT OF VALOR.  A movie about NAVY SEALS STARRING NAVY SEALS.

I vaguely remember this project getting greenlit in the wake of the Osamanation.

I'll be honest, I did not expect for it to look this good!

Co-directed by Mike McCoy (imdb listings are slim, seem to come from a documentary background) and Scott Waugh (who seems to be more of a seasoned stuntman in a lot of good movies...which might explain why this movie looks pretty good).

This is officially on my radar now.

Didn't impress me too much. Might have some decent kabooms here and there but the hook of real SEALS starring in the film doesn't excite me. I say the whole actors in movies thing has been working for a long time now and I don't see a reason to rob them of roles in films such as this. I support artists, dammit.

But I do see Nestor Serrano's name among the cast. That's a solid sign.

I almost went with him instead of Michael Paul Chan. So, he's definitely a candidate for a future installment of "People Whose Names You Should Know."

I'm surprised Mill's would go out of the US for a Holiday given his paranoia about foreigners.  I wonder if Besson and Co will continue that whole 'winking at the audience xenophobia' that was all over the first one.  They'll probably backtrack and show him being friendly to the locals and stuff.

Not excited at all about the second part of this revamped Die Hard series.  I'll stick to the Trilogy Classique, thank you.

Oh man, that sounds like something we'll actually get to see, and that's not necessarily a good thing.

Anyhow, Chris Tucker just had his house foreclosed on. When you haven't acted in years aside from the Rush Hour movies, this should not be a surprise. I mentioned it long ago but that house is only like 10 miles from where I live. I've been by that neighborhood before but never went in it as it's a private community sort of thing. Plus, I haven't seen him in person at the grocery store buying a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk or anything of that sort.

The part of the drug cartel kingpin who will face off against Arnold in THE LAST STAND has been cast and it will be.... Eduardo Noriega! Yeah it doesn't really move my needle either:

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118044259?refCatId=13

Quote:
Spanish thesp Eduardo Noriega, who currently stars opposite Sam Shepard in the Butch Cassidy pic "Blackthorn," is set to square off against Arnold Schwarzenegger in Lionsgate's "Last Stand."

South Korean helmer Kim Jee-Woon directs the action pic, which finds Schwarzenegger playing the sheriff of a sleepy little town who runs up against an escaped drug cartel leader heading for the Mexican border.

Noriega will play Cortez, a ruthless fugitive who plans to flee to Mexico in a Gumpert Apollo with $400 million.

Rodrigo Santoro, Jaimie Alexander, Peter Stormare and Zach Gilford co-star in the film, which is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Andrew Knauer wrote the original spec script that was subsequently rewritten by Jeffrey Nachmanoff and more recently, George Nolfi. Lionsgate has worldwide distribution rights on "Last Stand," due to hit theaters Jan. 18, 2013. Production starts Oct. 20 in New Mexico.

I am really excited for this film.  It may be very speculative of me, but the fact that a non-American director is helming this excites me.  Foreign territories and in my opinion especially Asia really have a reverence for the films of Sly and Arnie from the glory days.  They don't look at them in a post-modern "so bad they are good" way that a lot of our hipster critics and filmmakers do.

I think we are gonna get a sort of UNFORGIVEN for Arnold's career in this movie.

No doubt, I'm very hyped about the film. I was just clinging to the idea that since it was a reasonably hot director behind the camera that maybe we'd get an actor for the villain who was a real out -of-left-field choice who wouldn't mind slumming in an Arnold action film in order to work with Jee-Woon. Benecio Del Toro was the sort of guy I was thinking of.

BDT always LOOKS like he slumming it thats for sure.

I vividly remember going to see COWBOY BEBOP THE MOVIE, in LA.  After the movie we went to get food at a neighboring sushi establishment on Sepulveda and this impossibly hot blonde was talking to a homeless man.

Upon closer inspection that homeless man ended up being Benecio Del Toro!

If you want to be a little more excited about his casting, check out Alejandro Amenabar's 'Tesis'.  He plays a real peice of work in that one.  I haven't seen El Lobo, but apparently it's quite good.

We can only hope.  If Kim Ji Woon is allowed to work freely, we could have a genuinely good film.  He's way ahead of other genre hopping film-makers like Tarantino.

Eduardo Noriega's best work is as the villain in The Devil's Backbone. I found his work with Amenabar (Abre Los Ojos and Tesis) to be a bit foppish.

I met him briefly during a party (Blackthorn shot on location here in La Paz and Potosi). Seemed like a nice enough guy, while also coming off as a bit of a smug prick.

Not sure what to think. But it will probably be fun to watch Schwarzenegger kill the shit out of him.

Like I said way back when it premiered on EPIX, I like it very much.  It sets a far more cynical and somber tone for these guys, who seem rightly named The Expendables.  Personally, I would still cut out the Jason Statham love story subplot, but 95% of everything added is stuff I liked and thought improved the film.  So you guys should probably enjoy it as well.

Actually, it was filmed there. How that film can possibly tie into the other movies in the series... fuck if I know!

However, the one trivia note on this movie on IMDb literally made me lol due to how ridiculous the whole Scorpion King/Mummy series really is.

This film is a sequel to a prequel to a prequel of a sequel of a remake. That is, it is the sequel to the The Scorpion King: Rise of a Warrior, which is the prequel to The Scorpion King, which is a prequel to The Mummy Returns, which is a sequel to The Mummy which is a remake of The Mummy.

What else you said about that movie made me laugh.

Oh, and what you said about Buck Flower... only you, Rene. As I'd rather not see Tommy Wallace's tallywacker, I think I'll take a pass on Video Vixens.

Oh yeah, It was a disgustingly hilarious surprise to see his junk. Also when he patted his gut when he said the "Balled by an artist!" line. The Citroen DS really is an amazing car. It's so unique and I've always had a fondness for it.

However, the one trivia note on this movie on IMDb literally made me lol due to how ridiculous the whole Scorpion King/Mummy series really is.

Everyone is trashing the shit out of this trailer on other sites.  Me?  I'm actually looking forward to it and have been since it was announced.  Sure it will be action fluff, but how can I NOT watch this with these two as the leads.....

I'm sorry, it looks like it could be fun to me.  Maybe that's my bad taste talking, but I don't care.

S.D. Bob Plissken, On...President's Day Weekend 2012, There is only one film that has my vote...Ghost Rider Spirit Of Vengeance!  CAGEy...Nic, will...Blaze a path of Vengeance to claim the top spot in the box office race!  This Means War, the battle between Bane and Captain Kirk for a...Piece of...Reese, is simply not for me!

Going back to the discussion on The Scorpion King 3, I only ever saw the first one, and aside from implosion in my pants Kelly Hu, it was pretty meh. They really had a lot of stock in Dwayne Johnson's character, who appears for all of a few minutes at the beginning of The Mummy Returns, and then returns as a poorly CGI'd beast at the end. Also for a few minutes. Not all that interested in seeing the sequel or this one. Despite acting titans like Zane and the spectacular Ron Perlman.

I am not gonna lie...i kinda had my interest piqued by the trailer.

There do seem to be some really good action beats in it though.  I've been pretty hot/cold on McG's output as a director in the past...but he tends to have have good taste in leads and content.  The hook of this movie is pretty groan inducing though.
