I read the graphic novel adaptation of The Keep. Starts with great promise, ends rather meh. I'd be interested in seeing the film out of Michael Mann completionism.

There's a web series follow-up in the works.  A teaser was posted online back in the fall which I'm sure can probably be found on YouTube.  They also plan on doing a proper Dog Soldiers 2 at some point as well.  I just hope it turns out well.  Marshall is not involved with either project.

100% agreed on both counts.  It's a beautiful film with an excellent cast.  I'd love to see Mann's original 3+ hour cut!

Hammerhead, Thank you for correcting my mistake.  Still, the Extended Edition of Lethal Weapon is...Awesome!

felix, I think Jack Reacher makes sense as the title, as that is the name of the hero.  What is...One Shot?  If you didn't read the book it could be anything.  I never read the books, but since I know it is an action thriller, I would guess that JR is the...Main Character. There are what...14 books?

Have you read NIGHTWORLD or the Repairman Jack Books by F Paul Wilson? Gleaken and Rasalom's story continues in these books.

As for DAYLIGHT, i think its a decent enough flick, but i best remember it for this.

Sure. There're a lot of books though. However you'll get more details on Gleaken/Rasalom and the Powers they serve.

The revised NIGHTWORLD is the grand finale. Wilson has said they'll be no more Rasalom stories after this.

The EPIX channels keep scheduling a 1988 Stephen McHattie movie, CALL ME. Evidently, it's an erotic thriller/murder mystery. I don't know why this has me intrigued but I am.

(Maybe it's because McHattie= eroticism!)

Synopsis: A New york newswoman meets a stranger and sees a slaying after receiving an obscene phone call.

A DVRing may happen. At the very least, 80's cheese that will hold me over untill ZANDALEE shows up.

McHattie does equal eroticism.  Why do you think I like Pontypool so much?

Back to zombies.  Watched LET SLEEPING CORPSES LIE last night.  Nice, creepy atmosphere.  Love the sound design.  The in house rules were a bit muddled, and unnecessary anyway, as all I need is "hey, this is causing zombies, oh fuck" and I'm good.  Still a little confused about one point in the film, if anybody who has seen it wishes to help me clarify, let me know.  I'm going to give CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS a spin tonight.

Oh how I love the topsy turvy world of The B Action Movie thread.  Where HARD RAIN is an overlooked masterpiece and THE KEEP wasn't total shit.   Don't make me insert winking emoticon.

Unfortunately my free month is about to run out real soon and I'm not sure if I'm going to pay for June or not. But that is the best way to see it given that there's never been a DVD release of it anywhere, let alone Blu-Ray. Allegedly it's because that is what Mann himself demanded. Even if that day does come one of these days I doubt that we'll ever get to see the 210 minute version, sad to say.

The proper answer is "too many". The same goes with how many Underworld movies there have been.

That's one of the many reasons why this is the best thread on the entire internet. Always happy to get the ball rolling on a movie by saying I love it, and other people following suit. Of course, it's not always me saying that about certain movies.

I dig The Keep as is, but I would definitely welcome a full uncut Mann's original vision, version. Sad to say it will probably end up as a MOD release.

Your talking about Let Sleeping Corpses Lie yesterday led to a BU sale at Amazon. Blu-rays were pretty inexpensive, and I picked up several including this one for 15 bucks.

Man, I would gladly take more Resident Evil films, as I am very entertained by them. Underworld can sit on it.

Jack's Back was pretty damn great. Even better than I remembered. That film too will probably be sadly only released via MOD. Damn shame for a good late 80's horror film. Spader owns, and Cynthia Gibb is a nice lookin' next door beauty. Especially whenever she has those obscenely big glasses.

We're watching Cobra right now. Been a while since I revisited this action classic. The whole sequence in the hospital showed that Sly could do horror. I'm still hoping he does a sci-fi or horror movie eventually. I bet that sequence is one where Sly worked together with George P. Cosmatos, rather than just Sly being in charge of shooting. Since Cosmatos did Of Unknown Origin on his own.

Sums up my take, only throw in some of the worst shaky-cam to date. You'd think they filmed it during an earthquake.

Still feel bad that Holt McCallany is stuck in that Couture film. A shame.

Holt McCallany has been wasted for a very long time. Guy doesn't deserve it. He was pretty good in The Losers. First noticed him in Fight Club as the mechanic, and it's always cool to see him pop up in something. Too bad that hasn't led to a lead role.

The Losers did lead to this hilarious exchange between him and Jason Patric.

Max: What the hell am I looking at here, Wade?
Wade: Clay and his unit.
Max: "Clay and his unit?" That sounds like a porno, Wade.

Last time I watched ALIEN 3 I was pleased to see Holt as one of the convicts. The one who tries to rape Ripley!

I keep forgetting he plays "Junior" in Alien3. THAT'S the first thing I saw him in, back in December of 1993. Then I didn't notice him in anything again until Fight Club. If I saw him in anything, I didn't realize it.

He redeems himself for the attempted rape in the assembly cut of Alien3. He sacrifices himself by running into the toxic waste lock up and the Alien follows him into it.

I'll be honest, I wasn't familiar with his name but then I looked him up and he is one of "those guys" that I recognize from somewhere but never knew what his name was. I know I haven't seen too many of his films but I still recalled his face. At least he's in Bullet to the Head. It should be much better than having to play a guy named ROSTOW PAWLAK, as he does in Hijacked.

I forgot to mention that last night I went to Planet Smoothie where I got one of their few drinks that you can get with the PROTEIN BLAST. It's appropriate I use that phrase, as I just about imploded in my pants a few hours ago. Last night I tweeted Rachael Leigh Cook and mentioned that I had seen one of her movies for the very first time and I was surprised it had taken that long. She thanked me but as I didn't mention which film it was she was also "possibly apologetic" so I responded that it was Scorched and she was glad it was that one... presumably because it wasn't something like Get Carter or that one movie she did with Jessica Simpson of all people (Blonde Ambition), as tweeting her, "Oh, I saw a movie of yours for the first time... oh, it blew goats but you were fine in it" would just be awkward. That isn't the first time someone that some people would know has responded to me on Twitter but this is the most high-profile one and while others here have had the likes of Arnold and Seagal respond to them, I still got a thrill from it happening to me tonight, as I am not one of those dumb people who pester celebrities all the time asking them to respond or retweet them.

I'm not sure how to properly segue my way from that to this, so I'll just blurt it out... sometime in the next few days I plan on watching Act of Vengeance. I am starting to think I'll pay for one more month of Netflix, but no matter what I want to see the early 70's movie that is also known as Rape Squad, for its name and also because some parts of it sound hilariously awesome. I'll mention those things once I get around to seeing it.

Finished up CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS.   One of those I've always heard of, but never caught.  Glad I did.  Sure, shit doesn't really happen until the last half hour, but it was fun.  Almost wish I would have seen it as a kid, because there were some shots that would have stuck with me, freaked me out.  Damn good prototype of the horror comedy, a genre that would really pick up steam in the wacky 80's.  This is how to do low budget.  Inspiring.

A friend has the DC of Lord of Illusions.  I think I'll try and wrangle it out of his hands tomorrow.  Never seen the DC.

I promise I'll post about action flicks again.  How bout that Hard Rain, huh?

Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro are talks to take the lead in the Warner Bros. boxing comedy Grudge Match.

The comedy follows two retired boxers who are returning to the ring for one final Grudge Match. Doug Ellin penned the latest draft of the film.

Peter Segal is directing the project with Bill Gerber, Carrie Gillogly and Mark Steven Johnson producing.

Production on the project is expected to start early next year.

I saw this last night. I was very pleasantly surprised. It's clever and well-written. On a par with the first. In fact, I'd argue it's actually better than the first (it has a more interesting story, better script) but, since it needs the baggage of the two previous movies to fully work, that's not entirely fair. It definitely has the best villain, and it's the most violent and exciting of the series. Feels much more like a straight-up adventure film than the other two. While still being very funny.

Watchable but thoroughly and consistently uninspired (not to mention interminable) programmer coasts almost entirely on Denzel Washington's charisma and Ryan Reynolds likability. It seems to take forever to get going and, once it finally takes off, it forgets to go anywhere interesting. The supposed novelty of a South African setting won't make you forget that you've already seen this movie about 150 times. I guess there are worse rentals out there for a rainy afternoon. But there are also better ones. (2 Stars)

Come on.  Yeah, I know it's the definition of 'so bad it's good'.    But he's better off making less movies like that and more like RAMBO, EXPENDABLES, ROCKY BALBOA and COPLAND.  And De Niro has had quite a few drinks in the last chance saloon.

I really don't have a problem with this.  This will be a low-risk affair for them.

saw the new BOURNE trailer on the front page...as the resident Bourne hater (mostly just the greengrass films) I gotta say that Gilroy really piqued my interest with the action in this one.

Granted its quick cuts, but it doesn't look like there is much shaky cam at all.

Te first half of the Trailer seems like a recap of ULTIMATUM. But the second half is awesome. Especially the tracking shot where Renner jumps into a narrow alleyway to save Rachel Weiz.

THE EXPENDABLES 2 TV Spot up.

New footage. Norris speaks!

Love the EXPENDABLES TV spot.  Although it does spoil one of the movie's big stunts.  Van Damme's in fine form.

Also love the BOURNE trailer.   Looks like it will continue the series' convoluted timeline, like ULTIMATUM.

It doesn't look like shakey cam.  But I didn't mind it in the others, especially ULTIMATUM, because Greengrass is one of the few directors who knows how to do shakey cam correctly.
