Flipping channels during the game, I watched a little of KILL BILL (1 & 2) on iFC. The underrated performance in the movie belongs to Michael Madsen. His samurai in shitkicker exile has real pathos. And when he's about to bury the Bride alive he's coolly unflinchingly sinister. Even in RESERVOIR, Madsen has never been that good.

Im with you Elvis.  I know they dropped the "neighborhood" from the title, but the thing that shocked me the most was that legitimate aliens are involved in this movie.

It feels completely out of left field based on earlier trailers.  I have faith in the lonely island crew though.  If they are behind this movie in any way, I will give it a shot.

Already wrote a bit about Prometheus in the thread. It's pretty great looking and too interesting a movie not to see it in theaters, but it's not an ALIEN or ALIENS. Maybe an ALIEN 3, so lower your expectations. But you all owe to see this to support adult oriented, dark science-fiction movies with gross alien tentacles. We need this, not another Rihanna Battleship.

Now for the Seyfried-a-thon. I love that girl, so I watched three movies I hadn't seen of her:

Considering Prometheus, considering that one movie was ripped from us that was supposed to come out this month and thus this summer is rather barren for me, I just may check out that movie. I know I have made it clear here that I have not been sold on any of the advertising at all and in fact some of it has ticked me off. However, as I've heard some good word I may very well check it out. As for checking out some films just because it has a hot chick in it... of course I am sympathetic to your plight! Lord, I suffered through films like The Roommate, after all.

Besides me thinking that the song is rather groovy, the wacky animation in the video makes me laugh and laugh.

I've heard some of the goofiest things about that movie and they sound rather preposterous, but not enough for me to be brave enough to watch it.

I swear that I am not joking here, but even though I understand now that the movie is coming out late last month, literally Elvis's post on that movie is the very first time that I had EVER heard of it. Swear to you this is true. I heard nothing about it pre-production, during, or after it. I haven't been watching the NBA playoffs so I haven't seen any ads for it, any trailers, or word one about it from any summer previews. This seems like something that should not have happened with me but somehow it did. After looking on Wikipedia, the plot of the movie... no thank you. I don't plan on seeing it theatrically, that's for sure.

And tell me about the whole Trayvon Martin thing, living only about an hour from where the shooting happened. The local media has been bloodsucking leaches about it, talking about it seemingly nonstop. Although it pales in comparison to how God-awful they were with that C U Next Tuesday Casey Anthony. You wouldn't even believe how incessant coverage of that was.

I was brave and just watched the red-band trailer online. Besides it of course having a random dubstep song in it, I think I'll take a pass. Just a bunch of gross vulgarity and it just looks dumb. And that's sad to say, as if nothing else R. Lee Ermey is in it.

Thinking of this a Bruno film would be a mistake.  It has some good moments, Weaver is fun, but no amount of stylish film-making can hide the fact that the plot is so weak.  It's all been done before and if this had interesting characters it might've worked.  Instead, there's 2D stock characters.

Have you seen the 90 minute english version?  It might be worth seeking out for comparisons sake.  The end fight is much shorter and less stop-start.  The locking torture is gone and the focus is more on the kicking and punching only.  The music is different too, with an English song at the end.

I'm excited about this Scream Factory stuff for sure, and nice write up Rene. Please let me know what you think of Miller's Crossing? But be gentle as it's my favorite movie.

Modern war films all seem to suffer the same problems.  They are either too melodramatic or are patriotic garbage, recruitment videos.  The worst ones are both.

Good war films from back in the day were content to show the horror and despair that war brings.

Not technically a war film, Battle of Algiers is something that could never be made today.  It feels like you are watching the actual events several times.

In Time is okayish, but not doing enough with its interesting premise. Chloe is probably her best movie. Just coincidence that's the one she's nude in. On VERONICA MARS she died in the pilot episode, but was so alluring they let her come back in flashbacks for ten more episodes. And she totally took away Jennifer's Body from Megan Fox.

I'm with you on Seyfried.  I sat through forgettable stuff like Gone for her.  It must be her eyes.

I haven't braved Mamma Mia, though.

Rest in peace Mr. Dawson.

I didn't care for The Running Man as much as I'd like but Dawson was the man in it.

Thing is, I thought Dawson was already dead. For years.

.......

This morning I watched the Eastwood classic The Outlaw Josey Wales. Pretty brutal, violent film that pushes the limits of its PG rating. It meanders a bit too much, but it has a lot of interesting characters and that final showdown is a wow. Hadn't seen this one since I was a kid.

What's the consensus?

i agree.  i was shocked to hear that Dawson was actually still alive.

I will say this though...casting Dawson in THE RUNNING MAN was one of the most inspired casting decisions in all of movie making.

Looks like I'll be revisiting one of my favorite Arnold films soon. Think it was about time I revisited The Running Man anyway, because you ain't gonna get ratings like this with reruns of Gilligan's Island. Gilligan's Island. Duh duh duh duh. The one with the boat.

The Outlaw Josey Wales is a western masterpiece. It's up there with Unforgiven and High Plains Drifter for favorite Clint western for me.

Thought I was going to have a "B Movie Blast" of a double feature last night, with Drive and Haywire. Cut off Haywire about 1/3 through, and liked Drive, but man Ryan Gosling is a charisma vacuum.

It's unfair to criticize Gosling for a lack of charisma in Drive. The character was clearly written that way and it's a fine minimalist performance.

Drive is a movie I admired and appreciated more than I actually enjoyed. But I look forward to eventually revisiting it. It feels like a grower.

Can't blame ya for cutting off HAYWIRE. No doubt about it, it's a stinker.

The moment that has always stayed with me from Dawson in THE RUNNING MAN is when he's all nice to the clumsy old janitor, then a second later orders him canned. A classic cinematic dick move.

Van Damme presented Kate Beckinsale with an award at the Spike Guy's Choice deal that'll air next week:

Man, I love Miller's Crossing. Probably my favorite Coen brothers movie. Best scene is when the hitmen show up at Albert Finney's house. It doesn't get any better than that.

Sad to hear about Richard Dawson. I guess I'll have to break out The Running Man as well.

Last night after the game (go Thunder!) I watched two oldies but goodies on TV. First up was thread favorite To Live And Die In L.A. which is just a crazy-ass flick. I love that they used the "ugly" side of L.A. instead of the "glamorous" locations we usually see. The loading docks, railyards, and oil refineries as a backdrop give it a gritty, urban feel. And of course it features one of the best car chases ever.

After that I watched Friday the 13th Part II, which was the first one of the series I ever saw way back in '82 when we had Showtime. It's still one of my favorite entries because of some nice kills, decent suspense, and a couple of really nice-looking girls. It of course contains the awesome skinny dipping scene featuring the gorgeous Kristen Baker.

JOSEY WALES might be my second favorite Clint Western.  It's a special kind of awesome that doesn't even get tarnished by the fact that you can find it across the dial at any time on any given Saturday or Sunday.

Don't get the Ryan Gosling has no charisma thing.  Maybe I'm gay for him, but I genuinely like the guy and his performances.  In the things I've actually seen.

Best thing about DRIVE is that it doesn't give anybody what they expect.  The people I watched it with thought they were getting a Fast and Furious style stunt wank, I thought I was getting a violent anti hero revenge movie, and while it was kind of a violent anti hero revenge movie, it was so much more.  I'm not going to get all pretentious and say it transcended, blah, blah, blah, but what it is is a beautiful, intelligent, hypnotic B movie.  Sleazy and artful all at the same time.  I love that.

Sorry to hear about Newkirk.  Farewell.

I didn't realize THE WATCH was directed by Akiva Schaffer.  Damn, that actually piques my interest in a film I was ready to dismiss completely.  Hope he brings some of that same HOT ROD silliness to the proceedings.

FRIDAY THE 13th PART II is one of the top three in that franchise- I have trouble picking between that, IV, and the early meta of VI.  But I love that Jason, while we know he may be zombified somehow, is still basically a dumb backwoods weirdo that wears a pillowcase on his head.

Although Friday 2 has the hottest girl of the franchise (for me, anyway) it's one of my least favorites. It has a really slow pace and only one genuinely satisfying kill. It and VII are the ones most damaged by MPAA interference. But at least VII has that goofy Jason Vs. Carrie climax to elevate it slightly... And Terry Kiser.

Speaking of Madsen, just listened to an amusing interview he did on Adam Carolla's podcast. Here's a link:

I never knew Madsen was formerly married to Cher's sister. He also talks about what it's like to hang out with Nick Nolte and does a hilarious impression of Nolte to boot.

Madsen's son Christian was also on-hand for the podcast but I'm not sure why as he barely speaks. He is an actor as well but it appears that he's an actor in the tradition of Van Damme's son in that he only appears in movies his pops is in. So if you'd like to see Christian Madsen in action you can catch him as "FBI Agent #1" alongside his dad in LOST IN THE WOODS:

Though my version is the longer version (that fight lasts an incredibly epic 15 minutes!), it does not feature Jackie singing.  I do love that song though.

Basically, what I'm doing is watching all of Chan's movies (even one he just makes a cameo in), and in chronological order, as a run up to Chinese Zodiac.  Just finished The Cannonball Run, which was kind of fun but Chan was way miscast and fairly underused.  Did like that his name was Jackie Chan in the movie, though.

Friday The 13th: Part 2 is really atmospheric and creepy. The first 4 films all have that in common, but the first 2 films basically look exactly the same. Agree on Kirsten Baker being supremely hot. The girls in the first 4 Friday films have that in common for the most part, but it's Judie Aronson from The Final Chapter that gets my motor revved. Kelly Hu from Jason Takes Manhattan as well.

Judie Aronson still has it all going on.

Of course so does Kelly Hu.

Richard Dawson's kind of a big deal for me. Crushed to hear that he's crashed into the big ICS billboard in the sky. As Erix said on Facebook (YOU STOLE MY FUCKING STATUS IDEA GODDAMMIT), Arnold indeed lived to see him eat that contract.

Glad you see you dug Stone Cold, Elvis. Allows Erix to explain THE OVERUSED GARY BUSEY COMEUPPANCE again as well.

Piranha 3DD was decent enough. Felt like a DTV sequel, since it seems the budget was a lot lower than the first, but overall I liked it. Ving shows up for a cameo, and the Hoff has the best line in the movie that had us laughing a lot. "You ginger little moron." We both agreed that the price was worth it.

Watching The Wraith right now. It's been 8 or 9 years since I've seen this movie. Of course I remember liking it, and Clint Howard's toupee is amazing.

Seriously, how the fuck do you hate Miller's Crossing? I should tell you to go fuck yourself, but instead I'll tell you to go buy a used copy of Bingo at FYE, which is like fucking yourself.

Am I the only one who thinks Howard looks exactly like Professor Frink in The Wraith? I think I may have a problem for how much I love that movie.

It's great. A bit long, but nothing tops a vengeful Eastwood. And another opportunity to make a Sondra Locke domestic violence joke, but I'll be tasteful this time.

I enjoy Part VII too. The best Fridays are VI, Part 3, and The Final Chapter.

I still think uncut versions are out there for the sequels but Paramount is too lazy. It's especially damning when the double impaling from Part 2 has perpetually had the image from the original version on the back of its home video releases.

What Part 2 girl do you refer to? Nothing on Debi Sue Voorhees in Part V:

Sadly it's not the same Scott Schwartz from THE TOY and pornography. I thought of him at first as well, would have made the poster all the better. The Schwartz in that movie is the guy to the left of Madsen. He was the big bald guy that Clooney had a run-in with in that awful awful OCEAN'S 11 movie.

Can't say I've seen REMOTE. But an imitation wet bandit duo of John Diehl and the great Tony Longo is impressive.

Likely won't be seeing Madsen in LOST IN THE WOODS either. I would if it showed up on cable, but for now the Madsen flick that appears to be in heavy rotation is the vampire extravaganza THE BLEEDING, co-starring Vinnie Jones, Armande Assante, DMX and Kat Von D:

So when will GET THE GRINGO be available for people who don't have DirecTV??

Because I "previewed" the film and it seemed like a pretty good movie with the FUN MEL we all like to watch. Then "the preview" had more and more spanish scenes with no subtitles and I had to end..."the preview".

I'd like to know the exact same thing. I've read that it's coming to Blu-Ray on 7/17 but as of yet it's not up for pre-order on Amazon. Don't know if the other VOD services would get it before then or not.

Yeah, I tend to agree that while 2 has some nice eye-candy, there are others in the franchise that I definitely enjoy more. However, I'll always laugh at the scene with the guy in the wheelchair where a hot chick asks him if *everything* below his waist was paralyzed.

Wow. That looks as bad as that Tommy and the Cool Mule movie we have joked about often the past few years. And another reason to avoid it... it was directed by Jim Wynorski! I am sure many of you are familiar enough with that name to know why that name is trouble, at least in recent years.

Actually, I looked online to make sure it was that dude, and according to IMDb it is another person who happens to be known as Scott L. Schwartz. It's the bald person who looks like The Big Show.

Friday night I did go to Best Buy and the only thing I got was a Blu-Ray of Heat as it was less than 10 bucks. Today I made the long drive over to a MovieStop and I made a Rene-esque haul. Half of what I paid was for one Blu-Ray, but it was a surprisingly used copy of 13 Assassins. It's an awesome film and I'll be happy to at least revisit the final 40 minutes or so once in awhile. The rest was DVD's that were a few bucks each. I got two from the 2 for 5 bucks pile and they were Shoot 'Em Up and Collateral. I know, I recently said that I didn't love the latter, but I do remember really liking some of the scenes so for that alone I might as well get it and give it a second chance. I got Fire Birds as it was only 2 dollars and there are some lol moments.

Finally, speaking of watching films just because a pretty lady appears in them, I got the Get Carter remake and a cheap Echo Bridge 2-fer of Texas Rangers and another film. Hey, besides getting to watch a movie with a girl I enjoy looking at, it's appropriate for me to talk about it afterwards in this thread.

What else is on that 2-fer DVD? Why, Dead Man! Yep, the Jarmusch film. I know enough about it to know that those two Westerns are just about as different as you can get.

After that I ate at the restaurant known as Cheeburger Cheeburger. Yes I've been there a few times before and yeah it's named after the old SNL sketch. It's a 50's themed place and they offer up some quality cheeseburgers/fries/malts & shakes. They played a Little Richard song but it wasn't Long Tall Sally. Instead it was Rip It Up.

As far as "hottest girl" in Friday 2, I am referring to Marta Kober also known as Marta Scorsese... also known as the girl who participates in that double impaling.

Julie Aaronson from part IV gets second place.

I'm finally hearing about the "Driver has autism/aspergers" shit.  I don't know where that started, or if it's just because of Gosling's droopy eyes, but it's so far off base.  I posted this in a FB discussion, but the secret to the Driver's personality (other than just adhering to the quiet, man with no name thing) is simply the unstated fact that he has done time.  This of course is my interpetation, but number one rule of prison is don't meddle.  You see what happens when you meddle, right?  You get hurt.

I read an interview on one of the Friday The 13th websites that was conducted at a convention that Marta Kober did, and it had a picture of her accompanying it. Let's just say you want to remember her for how she looked in the film. Plus her "interview" was damn strange with the things she said. Really weird.

Jennifer Cooke is a real dish in the movie. The girl who plays Paula in that same film was pretty hot in a girl next door way.

I first heard about the Driver's "condition" from Nordling on a facebook post he did where he posted his theory that the Driver was a high functioning retard. I didn't really get that. He just seems like a quiet guy who wants to suppress the rage inside him, because when it comes out, people get their face stomped in.

Started watching the first disc of The Sopranos: season 1. Funny seeing Mike Epps and Yancy Arias show up in episode 2 as a gay couple who steal cars.

I don't know about aspergers, but he's definitely creepy and weird. And kind of psycho. I wouldn't let him hang out with my kid (if I had kid).

That's not a bad thing, though. I liked that about Gosling's performance. I've just never been in the OMG HE'S SO COOL I WANNA WEAR HIS SHINY BOWLING JACKET camp.

I don't know where else to turn right now. I just saw an ad for the new Madea movie. This time her sassy hijinx involve Eugene Levy and Tom Arnold. Oh God what are we gonna do?

Not that I am willing to believe what I read on the IMDb from random posters, but on her page there were rumors from a few years ago about her being arrested after squatting on someone's property and then committing check fraud, then sometime after that she vanished and none of her family members could find her. After that she reappeared and appeared at a few conventions.

I did manage to find the interview that Rene is referring to. You can just Google her name and Friday the 13th together and it should be on the first page. Maybe it's best if I don't directly link to it as it's just sad. Really, while in the movie she wasn't a character that put a Potato in my Pants, the way that she looked in the photo... YIKES. I heard someone on another site compare her to Mrs. Voorhees' head in Part 2, and well... and the actual interview made me wonder if she had spent all her years missing at the loony bin with Loony Bin Jim, if she went to the drugs and that ruined her mind, or what have you. I don't want to libel anyone, but she was talking like she was clinically insane. What a shame no matter what happened with her.

Speaking of things that are a shame... while it's nice that he found an untapped market that for years didn't get the sort of movies that they wanted and that Hollywood should have made, all those movies just look retched no matter your ethnicity and skin color. I am happy I haven't seen any ads for it but from looking around I know it also has Denise Richards, Doris Roberts, and John Amos! Those poor people. Hopefully they were at least paid well.

Wow! Van Damme taking Hollywood by storm. Last night it was the Guy's Choice Awards, tonight it was the MTV Movie Sham:

And here with hot spoiled daughter Bianca:

Where will he turn up next? Will he attend tomorrow's MLB draft?

Joe Carnahan is giving us the action movie edition of Groundhog Day/Source Code

I could totally see this as some kind of meta Jason Statham movie.

Not really feeling the new TOTAL RECALL movie either. At least on first look a little too slick for my tastes.

I have Asperger's, and I can tell you I connected strongly with Driver. Definitely has it. Awkward in social settings, meticulous, has a specific interest (cars)...cards are in play.

Ugh, the new Total Recall. I'd rather punch my balls off.

About to reenter THUNDERDOME. Who's with me that it's an excellent trilogy capper (shut up, HT!)?

if they left out the part with the LOST BOYS (peter pan version) it would definitely rank higher in my books.

When that whole part happened it was a definite "WTF" moment for me the first time I saw the film...

Master Blaster is a fucking BOSS though.

Gotta hand it to George Miller...he comes up with some really wild ideas and gets them on screen wonderfully.

I'll say that I came THIS close to buying the Thunderdome dvd at Big Lots yesterday for 3 bucks, and passed on it, because I want to remember Mad Max for the first 2. Not getting into wack hijinks with the lost boys and Auntie Entity. Ugh.

Van Damme virtually teleporting to different functions is pretty cool. I hope he's pimping the shit out of EX2.

Watching the Spaghetti Western A Bullet For The General with Gian Maria Volonte (Ramon/Indio in the first 2 Dollars films), the immortal Klaus Kinski, and the lovely Martine Beswick. Never seen it before, but it's one of those films that I've always had on my radar.

Oopsie.

Edit: Dude beat me to it, even had a warning for kain and everything.

Great spot though. Love that Willis line and the shot of Van Damme with the knife.

Every little bit they are releasing of the film is even better than the last, and we've only seen mere glimpses.

I love how much of an asshole Trent Mauser seems to be. Just about every line of dialogue we've seen of him from both films is just him taking a shit over whom ever he's speaking to.

That tv spot certainly hit the right spot for me. I'm a bit miffed I have to wait the entire summer to see it, but at least we're virtually guaranteed that the film will be a big hit like the first, and then we can get part 3.

Already tired of the Schwarzenegger centric jokes, though.  Not like it matters.  I'm seeing this fucker opening weekend.

Put me in the enjoys Thunderdome camp.   I even like the stuff with the kids.  The whole movie is just out there.

Was hoping you'd post the Thom Matthews POV shot of her jean-wearing crotch.  It's what I always remember from that movie.

Just watched his amazing film The Grey a bit ago.  Am totally down to see what else he'll do.  Though I'll bet it'll star Frank Grillo.

Thanks for the warning, guys.  This wait is driving me crazy.  After Prometheus, I'm not sure what will satiate my need for new flicks to tide me over.

See, since I'm not watching the trailers, it'll still be fresh for me.

Oh come on now, as if you'd ever get tired of Schwarzenegger one liners.

I still like them.
