Look, guys. I realize that anyone that is reading this review has already made up their...
Oh yeah, and I went to a Blockbuster today, and they had Project X and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol new for 12.99. Looked like a good deal until I noticed that they didn't have the wrapping on them. See, they were in those annoying plastic cases, and then when I picked up Ghost Protocol, I noticed through the slipcover's barcode scanner cutout that the friggin' Blu-ray cases DON'T HAVE THE COVER ART. Yeah, they're trying to pass these things off as "new" and all they've got covering them is just the slipcover. No cover art for the actual Blu-ray case.
So yeah, if any of you gents still go to that place, beware these stupid "deals". Luckily I didn't fall for it and just walked out.

Nice. The last I heard, it's going to be coming out in the States on July 31st.

Well, in '08 when I saw it on the big screen I really enjoyed it. But, I haven't felt like revisiting it since. And others here have mentioned that the movie isn't as great as advertised, so you have nothing to worry about. Hell, one person or two thought it was crap when it came out four summers ago.
Sometime real soon I MAY get tickets to see the three Nolan movies back to back to back because AMC Theatres is doing that as a promotion on the 19th up to the midnight release on the 20th. That sounds like a not so bad thing for me to do.

Hmmm. This is yet another summer movie I've heard real mixed reviews for. I imagine the trend won't change once more and more thread regulars go out and see it.

I've always liked the Burton Batman films more, especially Batman '89. Michael Keaton is still the Batman to beat. I had a bit of hype for The Dark Knight Rises, because of Hardy as Bane and to finally see Bane done as he was in the comics, and then I didn't really care for it. Now I've gotten a bit of hype for it, but I don't want to let it go overboard, as that's one of the things that led me to not love The Dark Knight like so many did.
Thus far, Batman Begins is the Nolan Bat-film I prefer.
As I've said several times before, I *hated* Batman Begins the one time I saw it a few years ago. Maybe I won't dislike it as much if I see it a second time and I'll be able to put up with all the unpleasant characters and how it seemed like 75% of the dialogue was epic proclamations instead of anything you'd actually hear someone say.

I don't believe so aside from what Molti said. I have no idea why it's so rare to find; then again I haven't really looked as to why that's the case.
Here's the legendary fight in question, which is really one of only a few clips you can even find of the movie on the streaming video sites. And wow it is quite the battle; I don't know if it's apocryphal or not but allegedly the fight turned from staged to legit.

Sure, it's not good on a technical scale. But despite the shitty characters and some rather atrocious dialogue, I still enjoyed what was really an exploitation film that apparently (at least I heard this a matter of days ago) was originally made to be a recruitment film for the SEALS. I don't know if it's true or not but it would explain why it's so unsubtle I still think of it as "America, Fuck Yeah! The Movie". Despite all that, I managed to enjoy the cheeseball film. The action was entertaining-enough that I was able to put up with the goofy story and all its foibles. I've played approximately zero percent of any Call of Duty game so the first-person stuff didn't annoy me.
Oh man. What a wacky and slightly deranged individual. Still, I'm hoping he'll be there on Saturday for that huge fight. I'll be there at Buffalo Wild Wings with bells on and once I get back I'll tell you all the important details, such as all the celebrities who are there, and I'm sure some famous faces will be around because it's looking to be the fight of the year, at least in terms of hype.
My afternoon was spent at one of my favorite locales, a MovieStop. It was one I had only been to once before. I went a little nutty; sure, not to a Seagal-level but I got more than what I was expecting. I may or may not have gotten my share of films featuring a certain actress... hey, most of the films she has done are indie so they can be quite difficult to find. When I checked out all the movies I was told that I could get a few more for free as part of a promotion so that's what I did. I can only imagine what that lady thought as I checked out my big haul. She didn't say anything but she probably imagined me as a real perv! My hormones got the best of me, I'll be honest.
In terms of what I'm willing to admit I got, I picked up the extended version of Waterworld, got The War Wagon (the western where John Wayne starred with Kirk Douglas and one of them often wore an all-leather outfit with one glove, and you can probably guess which guy I'm referring to), and eventually I'll be able to finally see Strange Days, a movie I heard Hunter praise quite highly on a podcast.

Oh man, I think too much time has passed my last screening of Strange Days, but I remember watching it with three or four friends and being overwhelmed with just how sleazy it got, while also being struck with how damn slick it was (even back in the day I would notice things like that). Great scummy (as if there was any other kind) Tom Sizemore role and the sort of ultra badass performance that makes me really disappointed that Angela Bassett didn't get more action roles after this film. It was the kind of film that made me keep an eye out on whatever Kathryn Bigelow makes.
Ah, don't sweat it Perfect. Several years ago I went to Hastings (when it was still open around here. The nearest one is about 5 hours away now!) and I got a copy of The New York Ripper on Blu-ray, and of course it was in a glass case, so the check out girl had to go get it, and I don't recall her giving me a look of disgust or anything. Even if she had, I wouldn't give a fuck. It's a movie. It's not like I asked her to get me a copy of JENNA JAMESON DOES IT ALL or something akin to that.
I saw the date on a website so I went with it. Turns out, a more reliable website (blu-ray.com) confirmed it. It being known as the "Mind-Bending Edition"; I don't know about the title but it's no surprise it is being released right before the shitty-looking remake is going to come out.
Yeah, it's not like I got anything that was soft-core porn, a "girly romantic comedy" or anything of that nature. In that case I'd really feel like a degenerate.
By the way, for the first time in almost a year and a half, Sly returned to the world of Twitter. He talked about Expendables 2 and offered praise for Van Damme, and said their big fight is "epic".
In a "perfect" (pun intended) we and all other b-action movie aficionados would make the Box office returns for the original higher than the remake.
What is the business sense behind this anyway? Re-releasing a high def transfer of the original a few weeks before the remake?
I remember they did this back around 2007/8 when Poltergeist was hitting dvd and they "re-released" it meaning they basically just projected the new dvd at the theater. So my friend and I got to see it on the big screen, but it wasn't even an actual digital projection, or even better an actual film print. I would possibly see Total Recall (it's not being released over here, but you get what I'm saying) just to see it on the big screen, but it seems to be the same thing. They're probably just going to project the new Blu-ray onto a theater screen. That would suck.
That said, it looks like the "Mind-Bending Edition" is still missing some of the stuff from the original special edition dvd in the Mars-shaped tin that I proudly own, but if I hear the transfer is good, I might pick it up if it's cheap enough.

Just from the few shots we've seen in the trailer, it definitely looks like BARNEY ROSS and JEAN VILAIN will have an epic fight. Probably more epic than that fight between Rod Taylor and William Smith. Holy shit was that brutal. William Smith just comes raring through the door screaming and ready to fight.
So right now I'm watching Robocop 2 and decided to look up the Asian character actor that seems to be around that little bastard Hob a lot. I've seen him in a shitload of movies, including Rambo: First Blood: Part II. I'm talking about George Cheung. Well, looking at his roles on IMDB, he's got an upcoming role in a movie called BRING ME THE HEAD OF LANCE HENRIKSEN. I swear this is a real thing.
Check out the plot summary.

Sounds pretty interesting, and it's got gents like John Saxon and Art LaFleur in it. Along with cupcake Cerina Vincent, and the lovely Adrienne Barbeau. It's also got MARTIN KOVE and John Witherspoon! Hopefully this thing gets released, because I want to see it.
I actually haven't head anything about the 1990 movie coming back to the big screen for one night only. But that may be something for me to check out, even if it's just a Blu-Ray projection. I also saw Poltergeist a few years ago in the manner that Rene did. Believe it or not that was the only time I've ever seen the film.
A little later tonight I'm going to watch a Western on-appropriately enough-Encore Westerns. It's 1970's El Condor and it manages to feature both Jim Brown and Lee Van Cleef, which is a duo that catches my attention. It also features the dish that was Fredo's lady in the beginning of The Godfather Part II and even Iron Eyes Cody. Later tonight I'll say if the movie is as good as I think it sounds.

I'm DVRing that.
Best experience with one night re-release was THE BLUES BROTHERS back in '05 (Same night Katrina hit) It was a live simulcast, and they did a pre-movie Q & A with Landis, Aykroyd, and James Brown. I'll never forget leaving the theatre, I saw someone driving away in an exact replica of the Blues Mobile.
Even tho I have a stack of rentals to get thru, I hit the video store and rented SINNERS AND SAINTS to follow up HARLEY DAVIDSON. I'm not as keen on DTV as some of you cats, but the positive word made me check it out. And I felt like something all out Action.
I have to admit something. (Don't crucify me please)

Maybe its just nostalgia on my part, but i enjoyed Batman 89 and Batman Returns better than the Bale flicks so far.
I became an internet pariah for criticizing the film when it came out. I enjoyed it, but it's chock full of terrible writing, some really bad acting *cough*Bale*cough*, terrible plot contrivances, declarative statements in place of dialogue and a brazenly offensive waste of Michael Jai White.
I caught Haywire and 21 Jump Street in Asia, suffice to say I'm now a fan of Channing Tatum and I went from being sickened to being glad they're gonna reshoot G.I. Joe 2 with extra Chan.
I had a massive nerdgasm during Haywire, when this exchange occurred;
"Keep your eyes open, dad"
"I haven't shut them since you where born"
That the Bill Paxtoniest line, with the Bill Paxtoniest delivery, I've heard in years. I totally missed him in our kind of cinema. I'm glad he's back home where he belongs, between this and the up coming 2 Guns.

The Van Cleef/Brown thing is not going to change your world, but it's enjoyable enough.
Sinners and Saints is well done, even if the plot is pretty nonexistent. There's a great fight scene near the end of the thing, too. I was impressed, and I too have a lot of trouble with most DTVs anymore.

I will agree with you on some of things you said, especially the plot contrivances and how big plans are able to happen because many different things just happen at the exact right time they're supposed to. I hope the movie isn't wildly disappointing when I revisit it sometime soon.

Sigh. Poor Stone Cold. I hope he gets paid well. It's bad-enough they're making a sequel to a film I am probably safe in presuming is not that good; but the sequel has Wolf-Boy Taylor Lautner in it! Even if Austin stomps a mudhole in his ass and then walks it dry I still don't want to ever see that motion picture.
I won't say too much as people like Elvis are going to see it sometime later, but El Condor was pretty entertaining. It's not a great classic that's unjustly been ignored; it's just a fun movie to watch where you get to see Cleef and Brown be pretty cool, see some nice action... and oh yeah, a good amount of nudity! I mean, I'm talking about full-frontal at one point.
The set that you see quite a bit of action take place at, the fort the movie is named after, is quite large and pretty impressive. Speaking of that, leading lady Marianna Hill... I don't say that just to be a pig. You get to see her Hills, bare, and to quote Sixpack Parrish, "What a pair!" To be blunt she looks pretty nice sans top and I'm sure at least a few of us think she would be worthy of someone to comb your hair over.

Some of the things? What don't you agree on? I'd really like to discuss The Dark Knight one time without it devolving to threats of rape against my mother, this is probably going to be the place for that!
That Total Recall re-release seems to be only available in the UK, and that's sad, as I wouldn't mind seeing it in the theater. A digital projection I don't mind. Seeing a damn dvd/Blu-ray on a theater screen I do. I could just stay at home, sit in my comfy green recliner and watch it on my tv.
So earlier my friend Rolando and I saw the last showing of Cabin In The Woods. It's the last day for it in the dollar theater here, so I knew I had to see it, and he digs horror movies as well. I'll just copy and paste what I posted on facebook, but I really loved it a lot, and I will talk more about it. My facebook post is just my thoughts in a nutshell.
I may resurrect my CHUD blog to do a proper review (or just be lazy and not do it), but I really enjoyed this film. It's a smart horror film posing as a throwback to early 80's horror (heavily Raimi inspired), and the mixture of the Cthulu with the stereotyped horror "formula" was a genius movie on Whedon and Goddard's part. Whedon who up until Avengers was released, I really didn't care for, Alien: Resurrection aside, now has my full attention. He and Goddard deliver a swift kick in the balls to every friggin' reboot/prequel by using every cliche in the book. Right down to having the "sacrifices" labeled as such. "The Fool" "The Scholar" "The Whore" etc. I liked that it didn't get too self referential, but what was there "Let's split up? REALLY?" was great. The "hypnotic gas" angle was brilliant, and once they get into the complex and ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE. Well, we know that we have a new horror classic on our hands, and not only is is scary, it's friggin' hilarious as well.
So now we're back at my place, hanging out and watching my old Fox dvd (the one with the awesome original poster art) of Point Break, since he's never seen it, and he wants to see the origin of the "shooting in the air" scene from Hot Fuzz.
Some of the things? What don't you agree on? I'd really like to discuss The Dark Knight one time without it devolving to threats of rape against my mother, this is probably going to be the place for that!
You're among friends here, dude. You should know by now we're not a judgmental bunch, and as I posted earlier, I didn't really care much for the movie either. One thing I forgot to post about was the stupid subplot of "People are inherently good!" Fuck that noise. The Mist is a proper showing of what can happen to people when they're cut off and faced with danger. Just like that episode of The Twilight Zone where people in that neighborhood are cut off from the world and they go crazy thinking people are aliens.
They will not sit there idly on ferries, especially one full of convicts, and wait out a timeclock.
Well, I guess it was a lot of what you said that I happened to agree with, but then again I haven't seen the movie in almost 4 years so I'm not 100% sure that everything I said was accurate. I didn't think that Bale was bad in the role (his "Batvoice' is rather silly; they should have just had another actor dub in a voice that doesn't sound so odd) but otherwise, yeah I guess the script wasn't that great if it had all those contrivances (even if you don't think about it the movie is a blast to watch and the general idea of the story is certainly good, The Joker basically trolling Batman to get him angry), I do remember some declarative statements but I wasn't too bothered by what I heard and thought it was definitely less excessive than Batman Begins, and yeah Michael Jai White certainly was wasted.
It sounds odd for me to say all that and yet at the time I really enjoyed the movie. Maybe me and many others got wrapped up in the hype that intensified by what happened with Ledger and how his performance was so awesome, and I did enjoy the action scenes. Like I've said a few times, it does warrant a revisit from me and hopefully I am not tremendously let down. I imagine others here (like Rene) will agree with you so you should not worry about expressing your opinions and they'll be happy to share their (more accurate due to maybe seeing the film not so long ago compared to me) criticisms.
Hopefully what I'm saying makes sense. I've been revved up for much of today and no it's not because I just saw a movie with plenty of nudity in it. I've just been that way for whatever reasons.
By the way, I noticed that late tomorrow night on MGMHD they are playing the movie The Boost, starring James Woods and Sean Young; I don't plan on seeing it but I laugh as the plot description mentions randomly that they both do coke in the film and I think it is fair to say that when they were a couple in real life there was some coke-snorting going on... right before she superglued his dick to his thigh!
Yeah, it sounds like I'm really slagging the film, but I will own up to pre-ordering the Blu-ray (first Blu-ray I ever did that with, at Sam Goody of all places) for The Dark Knight, and watching it as soon as I got it. Vanessa actually stopped by there to get it for me, as I didn't go to town that particular tuesday, and she works in that town too, so it was nice of her to do that for me. So I don't flat out hate it, but as Perfect Weapon said, some of us got caught up in the hype. I know for me personally it didn't live up to it, save for Ledger, but I certainly was expecting a lot more, and this last film looks really epic from the trailers, which is what I'm expecting.

I was joking about this place 'probably' not being judgmental. I know I'm in a total Safe House here.
I took it as the old guy on the non-Con Ferry just being too much of a chicken shit. I didn't mind Tiny Lester throwing the detonator, because he figured they all deserved to die anyway. What did annoy me? Batman did absolutely nothing to try and save those people. The boats being rigged was public knowledge. The first thing, he would've done would be to diffuse the bombs before taking on the Joker.
I also thought the final battle between Batman and Joker was pretty weak. Dogs and a pipe? After the Joker being pumped up as this master criminal who is also quite the physical threat. I don't know. The interrogation scene was a lot creepier and the Joker was more of a threat without being a "threat".
Some of the things? What don't you agree on? I'd really like to discuss The Dark Knight one time without it devolving to threats of rape against my mother, this is probably going to be the place for that!
Yeah, it's not a bad film. But i just don't understand why people were calling it the next best thing to sliced bread. Bale's Batman just sounds and looks so awkward and terrible. I like THE DARK KNIGHT RISES footage we've seen so far. But i think we should be realistic with our expectations.
In my definition, a Classic film is one that you enjoy watching over and over again despite its flaws (Every film has some). I'll stand by on Die Hard, Aliens and Predator on this. But not on Bale's Batman flicks.
Absolutely. I've intentionally avoided TDKR's marketing to go in as blind as possible, but I've heard Bane's new voice, and his British accent makes him sound more like a snooty butler than a badass.
Batman was so reactive in TDK he came off as very dumb. If John McClane where in Gotham, the film would be half it's run time.
That said, I think DARK KNIGHT RISES will be a good film. Also very curious on Anne Hathaway's approach to Catwoman (Though Michelle Pfeffier is the Gold Standard for me).
I think she's a pretty gal, but i understand why a lot of people don't think she's exactly Oscar winning material. Lively is pretty not Lively in most of her performances so far.
On a one month fur-lo from work as of now! Will be seeing Ted, Savages (damn those reviews!), Batman, Total Recall, Bourne Legacy, and Expendables 2!
I don't understand all this Dark Knight backlash. You're all entitled to your opinion and I respect you and yours, but I think you guys are wrong. I'm no fanboy either. The only thing I was ever maybe a fanboy of would be Punisher and/or Die Hard. My tastes always went harder, since I was able to watch anything at an early age. Still I believe that Begins is the lesser film and they both have their problems here and there, but Dark Knight is the Empire Strikes Back, which I think time will tell on. In about tens years or so I think most of you will agree. Excited about Rises as well. I wasn't, but then I saw the trailer and it looks pretty good, and I love Tom Hardy (Mad Max!).
Gonna get the Netflix back going, one at a time, for this vacation!
Gotta say I like Blake for the obvious reasons, and in a "girl gets kidnapped" story I don't expect much out of an actress.
What Robert Downey, Jr. said about TDK, back in '08:
"My whole thing is that that I saw 'The Dark Knight'. I feel like I'm dumb because I feel like I don't get how many things that are so smart. It's like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I'm like, 'That's not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.' I loved 'The Prestige' but didn't understand 'The Dark Knight'. Didn't get it, still can't tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I'm like, 'I get it. This is so high brow and so f--king smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.' You know what? F-ck DC comics. That's all I have to say and that's where I'm really coming from."
I kind of agree with him here on the whole Nolan experience in general. INSOMNIA especially. It's all whiz bang, concept, concept, and if that works for you, awesome. I'd like the guy to be able to mold that stuff into interesting characters. The Joker was the most interesting character in TDK, and that has more to do with what Ledger brought to the role, than what was on paper. He's still just a jumble of philosophical points more than a coherent character.
Shit, at least Nolan is using his brain, though. I'll never fault him for that. I enjoyed TDK, but have found that I really can't sit through it anymore. Even after a lenghty absence. Fuck yeah, I'll be there for Return of the Jedi, though. It's a slim summer. I'm not missing out on Batman.
I would have liked to have seen Batman break his one rule, but then that proves The Joker right. However that would have been a brave ending for the film to have a "Seven-esque" denouement. Especially in a big budget summer release. Even though he didn't, that last shot of The Joker was pretty chilling.
Too bad about Savages. I still want to see it, but I've never been a fan of Blake not so-Lively. They really should have gotten another actress in there. I mean, even from the previews I was like "These guys are going to rescue her? Why?"
The one qualm I have with HARLEY DAVIDSON AND THE MARLBORO MAN is the use of Bon Jovi. No way, Harley rocks out to that as he rides, especially in the future '96. (That band was already unhip by '91)
Mickey philosophy to live by: "It's better to be dead and cool, than alive and uncool."
This "Bad Movies We Love" entry from Rupert Pupkin may cause thread controversy!
Tango & Cash (1989)
There are bad guys that are out of control. Tango and Cash played by Balboa and Plisken go crush them. The End. Tango & Cash is the buddy cop movie formula put in the front seat of a GTO and driven into a wall at 105 mph. There is a stink on this film's script that is so, how do I put it, cocaine that it might keep you up at night. This movie has no regard. It copies the Lethal Weapon partner dynamic, one crazy partner and one uptight partner. Within the first ten minutes Tango & Cash completely rips off an action sequence from Jackie Chan's action masterwork Police Story, characters make references to Stallone's past roles, "He thinks he's Rambo!" Stallone asks Kurt Russell if he "bumped uglies" with his sister. Jack Palance is the bad guy. Stallone says it best: this film is "Action. Good old American action." Oh, and the heroes get a bulletproof heavily armed truck to fight the main baddies in the finale ala Gary Busey in Eye Of The Tiger. It's. Too. Much. To. Handle. People.
Hate Harley Davidson & The Marlboro Man. Didn't like when I saw it years ago and tried to rewatch it recently. Still dislike it greatly.
Speaking of Sly I watched D-Tox aka Eye See You the other day on Netflix instant. While he did a bang up job in the role the overall movie stunk. Great supporting cast with Dutton, Berenger, Kristofferon, Stephen Lang, B. Vance, etc. Great cast! Shitty movie. Unrealistic to a ridiculous degree. The kills were impossible, improbable and worst of all - boring. Avoid at all costs unless desperate to be a Sly completionist.
And ridicule me if you must but I also watched Mindhunters. I...liked it. A lot. Found it to be everything D-Tox wasn't. Mindhunters had a good (not great like above) cast with much better chemistry than D-Tox. It was better shot, acted, written, etc. Now, it is also full of ridiculously impossible kills. But at least they were interesting and fun. The twist at the end was also done a million times better than D-Tox. Maybe I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue but I thoroughly enjoyed Mindhunters.

The first thing, he would've done would be to diffuse the bombs before taking on the Joker.
Maybe Superman isn't the one who's a dick, but rather Batman.

Well, no surprise that Downey would have just a bit of bias in saying "Fuck D.C. Comics" but interesting nonetheless.

Oh I don't know; it doesn't sound too controversial to me. The movie technically isn't that great but it's still wildly entertaining.

They are actually showing some other great movies, but those three definitely "stick around"
Nice. You lucky SOB. Sad to say I live nowhere near Maryland so I'm SOL there but it sounds like an awesome thing to attend.
Here is some comedy for the late afternoon: Seagal in Las Vegas this week for the big UFC show; at a public workout for Anderson Silva old Steven (dressed tremendously) does some brief sparring with Silva's training partner, Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante.
First Seagal does something shitty like what he was quoted as saying that Anderson Silva probably fears him, then he goes and something fun like that AND TOTALLY REDEEMS HIMSELF. He genuinely looks like he's having fun, and it's a good PR stunt for himself.
Tango & Cash not good? Screw that noise. It's awesome. I need to revisit it sometime soon, so I'll probably pop in my Blu-ray some time this weekend.
I like Eye See You a lot because it's Sly doing a slasher movie, and I got to see it on the big screen, since it was dumped in the dollar theaters here in August of 2002, and I'd been following it on Greg's Previews (remember that?) on Yahoo for some time before that. Mindhunters I do enjoy a lot too. It's almost a Proto-Saw movie, and yeah, the kills are great.
Saw Chronicle, and Midnight Express earlier. Both on Blu-ray. They were revisits, and Chronicle is still one of my favorites of this year. Midnight Express is still an intense film that is a great showcase for an in his prime Brad Davis. Not the "looks like he's 50" Brad Davis we got in Cold Steel.
Now I'm onto Robocop 3. Yes, since I've seen the first 2 within the past 2 days, now I'm onto the third one that a lot hate, and I love.
