Hahahahahah, Albert Pyun.

From the Ronny Cox thing Elvis posted:

Captain America (1990)—“Tom Kimball”
RC:
We all know it wasn’t a very good film, but I will tell you this: Captain America remains to this day maybe the finest script I have ever read. Stephen Tolkin wrote the script, and it was a brilliant, and I mean brilliant script. Funny, naïve… It captured that whole sort of World War II naïveté, the innocence, as well as what it’s like to be a superhero. And it had a good cast. Ned Beatty was in it, Melinda Dillon was in it, Darren McGavin was in it. It had really good people involved with it. It was a fine budget. We shot it in Yugoslavia, in L.A., in Alaska, in Canada. All I can say, and I won’t cast any aspersions on the director, but he obviously didn’t understand what it was. He was more fascinated with the Red Skull than he was with Captain America, and it took that film two years just to go to video. [Laughs.] But I’m telling you the truth: The script was brilliant.

I haven't had the pleasure of seeing that film, but I remember awhile ago Hunter mentioning that there's a scene which is a newspaper montage throughout the decades and the music to represent the 70's sounded exactly like Duran Duran and Girls on Film, of all things. I later was able to confirm that Hunter wasn't fibbing; nevermind how I did it, but what he said was true.

Wow. You'll have to log onto Facebook to see the ad, but I say it's well-worth it. I will not spoil what you get to see; it's glorious.

He does seem like a pretty great guy to do such a thing. I certainly have never heard anything bad about him and he has been honest in the past saying that he's done certain films just for the money.

On July 31, the evil Peter Weller step-dad movie FIRSTBORN is hitting Blu-ray & DVD. A fondly remembered 80's cable staple. Weller in rare nasty mode is kind of fun. Essential Corey Haim.

Saw THE AMAZING SPIDER MAN again.

Still liked it. But i think i understand why so many people are unconfortable with it. The movie is much more low-key than the Raimi films we are used to. In fact it doesn't even feel like a Summer Superhero flick in some places. It's slower paced and a lot of the Origin stuff is a replay from the first film. That gives this reboot a high yardstick for it to follow.

I honestly think its not as bad as a lot of people here in CHUD think it is though. It's just a different take on things. The same way we've got 6 different Bond Actors over the past 25 years.

It's not slow paced, it just feels really long because it's a badly written, hacked up rehash with a crappy villain.

Harsh, man. smile.gif

felix, I agree with you.  I thought the new Spider-Man film is...Amazing!  I eagerly await news about whether or not the sequel will have The Sinister Six, whom that will consist of. Do you think the...WEBBslinger Returns to direct?  The film was pretty on the...MARC!  I also don't know why so many people dislike the film version of...The Lizard.  I thought Rhys Ifans was great as Dr. Conners and the Lizard vs Spider-Man was neat to finally see on screen.

Saw COLOMBIANA aka Just when you thought I couldn't ape LEON/NIKITA anymore by Luc Besson/Robert Mark Kamen!!!

What a terrible derivative plot.

The action was barely passable.

Its a wonder these movies keep getting made.  I guess its easy money for the studios.

Megaton gives me 0 faith in TAKEN 2: TAKE HARDER.

Factor that in with the fact that Besson/Kamen will probably start ripping off TAKEN now because its one of their biggest hits, I think we are in for a long series of films about family members being separated and the father/mother having to get them back

This was to be expected from the director of 500 DAYS OF SUMMER but it sounds good in my book so maybe I'll check it out.

Bumping up Berenger's THE SUBSTITUTE to the top of my queue. (Never seen it) Also, thinking about adding Sam Jackson's 187. Haven't seen that one either. I guess I'm in a High School really sucks/ 90's frame of mind.

Caught SAVAGES. Worth watching once for Del Torro. A delightful scumbag. Just like the book though the main trio are lame and you wish they'd be murdered so the rest of the movie could be about the cartel.

That's a movie I hadn't heard of before but Weller as an asshole sounds interesting, and so is who comprises the cast, which is Haim, Robert Downey Jr., Sarah Jessica Parker, and Teri Garr.

I'm going to have a long day today. I just got finished eating McDonalds dinner; I was gone for a few hours at a giant flea market about an hour away. I've been there a few times before. A big reason for me to go to that huge place is to look for a new PS2 controller as the one I have (I've used it for 7 1/2 years) is starting to become wonky, so I might as well get a new one. Even though I had to walk around a place that is roofed but still open-air (there were fans going all over but I probably was sweating like James Best in Rolling Thunder) in real hot and humid weather I did manage to get a new controller along with some other items.

They include a pair of DVD's I know people will enjoy; I managed to find a thread favorite... Quiet Cool! I've seen it before but it's nice to have a copy all my own. I also found D.C. Cab. It's a movie I've never seen in full but I've heard all about. I don't know if I've mentioned it here or I just mentioned it on another site but one of the first movies I remember seeing parts of on TV was that film, if you can believe it. Now I can finally watch it in full, not to mention unedited. I imagine it's terrible in edited form; I understand that The Busey says many politically incorrect things throughout, for example.

I'll be back late tonight after I get back from watching the huge pay per view and I'll give you the pertinent details.

Really glad I got to catch The Substitute in the theater when it came out. Tons of action in it, and you will probably enjoy it, Elvis. The most of the finale consists of silenced weapons being fired. I have't seen 187 either. That's one I need to finally see.

I was nearly alone in my enjoyment of 187 back in the day.  It went some places I didn't expect.  At the time, sort of the anti Dangerous Minds, if you will.  One of the last times I remember Clifton Gonzales-Gonzales being billed as such.

Firstborn was one of the first in the wave of VHS rentals for my family.  Coked up Peter Weller.  Need to revisit.

Liked 187 a lot back in the day. Curious if it still holds up. Gotta DVR that one soon.

Not as fun as THE SUBSTITUTE.

Thing is, as much as I love the original ROBOCOP, and you have no idea how much I love the original ROBOCOP, I still feel there's a wealth of fun to be had with the character, and considering they made no sequels back in the day, I'm cautiously optimistic as to what they have in store.

Yep, denial is my new thing.

THE SUBSTITUTE would make a good double bill with ONLY THE STRONG.

Agreed. That redeisgned ED209 really looks not bad.

Quiet Cool is lots of b-movie fun.  D.C. Cab still makes me laugh my ass off just like I did when I was a little kid.  For me, it's right up there with Stripes, Bachelor Party and the first Police Academy as 80's R-rated comedies that still hold up.  That cast!  That soundtrack!  Make sure you watch all the way through the credits for a funny little capper at the end.  Hope ya' dig!

Yeah, I'm liking the look of the ED-209 as well.

I won't lie and say I will never see this, but I half expected this to be written and produced by Besson.  They don't even make any qualms about throwing it in the audiences face that "HEY LOOK, THIS IS LIKE TAKEN!!!"

They even have a guy who looks like Jean Reno!

Geez, is this going Theatrical?

Didn't recognise Olga Kurylenko as the female agent till i saw the credits. Different hairstyle i guess.

Slapped up an article on the main site about the OMNICORP viral site, and of course gave Keith the credit for bringing it to my attention. Also, I couldn't help but mention my recent revisiting of the trilogy and my love FOR ALL 3 FILMS.

I've got a feeling we're going to like the new redesigned Robocop suit.

OMNICORP still doesn't flow as well as OCP though.

Maybe that's just for the website, and we'll still get OCP said and shown in the remake.

Was going to see Savages but was too tired by the time I got home and fell asleep.

In Daytona, I assume? Awesome finds!

You guys are being way too kind to that new ED 209. The viral site seems well intentioned and in line with the corporate smearing and civil unrest of the series, and I could see Omnicorp, theoretically, being a rebranded OCP. But ED 209 isn't supposed to look like a rejected Avatar mech suit design. It looks like a glorified Transformer. And those red LED's are not doing it.

OOOOO LOOK THE ED 209 HAS COBRA CANNONS!!!!! Give me a fucking break.

But given that A Good Day to Go Fuck Yourself will probably end up PG-13, I'd rather end up seeing this.

i am worried that this new ROBOCOP is going to be just "slightly" different than being an actual re-imagining.  ED 209 looks very very very similar to the original.

I am worried this is going to turn into a TOTAL RECALL remake more than a true re-imagining.

Oh, you crazy kids, Eko and HT! You got my hopes up that COLD STEEL was something of a lost B Action classic. Unfortunately, my vote is going to have to be that's a no. I thought it was pretty cheesy, and Brad Davis was a pretty boring lead. He had like zero charisma, and his banter with Sharon Stone when first meeting her at the bar (cop hang out), was the most painful and pathetic pick up attempt ever. The guy was just slumped back in the booth, while this impossibly hot girl is flirting with him. It was such a weird way to play the character (the anti-Mel). I guess Banks was allright, and I had to crack up at his over the top death, but I wouldn't put it up with his best 80's work, and just going by this performance, you'd never guess how amazing he'd end up being decades later on "Breaking Bad'. Verdict: a slice of 80's cheese, that never really came together in a satisfying way. Best watched as a young Sharon Stone time capsule, and by fans of cops shooting vending machines on film. A miss.

Gordon Willis' WINDOWS has to be seen to be believed. A Talia Shire Stalker thriller with as unrealistic a potrayal of psychopathic homosexuality as Friedkin's CRUISING. Yet still with scenes approaching the effectivness of FATAL ATTRACTION. Stylishly sleazy.

Interesting. I may check the comic out. I've got the trade paperback of the original comic. I've had it for years, probably since around '97 or so. Got a few other issues, including one involving a Native American man who is resurrected 100 years after he and his wife are murdered to wreak vengeance on the also re-incarnated Confederate thugs who killed them.
