felix, I will see...The Dark Knight Rise at...High Noon! Batman vs the...Bane of Gotham! Batman is basically...Gary Cooper, with his lady...Selina a very...Catty Woman, vs an EEEEEEEvil Villain leading a gang of thugs against the town!
"If you took Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, gave it to Roger Corman, who produced it through a partnership with Hammer with a young Al Gore co-writing the script with Jack Hill, then you might approximate something close to today’s film, No Blade of Grass."

Man, those fucking despicable pimples on humanity possibly picketing Sage Stallone's funeral. I hope it doesn't happen. If it does, I hope Sly gives them hell.
Had a very great afternoon out with my friend. We hit up Barnes and Noble and I got a few Criterions. Repulsion, 12 Angry Men, Shallow Grave, Paris, Texas, and The Wages Of Fear. Also got the Conan reboot, and the Sensei's Born To Raise Hell at 2 pawnshops. Also got a new cellphone for my Father In Law at the second pawn shop I stopped at.
Then I hit up 2 Best Buys to take advantage of their trade in dvds and get Blu-rays. Like Molt, I came away with quite the haul. Get The Gringo, Lockout, Ghost Protocol, Altered States, Dog Day Afternoon, and Babe. At neither one did I find Outland. That really pissed me off. Still, it's so great it's disgusting this deal going on. If you have some dvds you don't give a shit about, go trade them in and get some Blu-rays for as low as 5 bucks. I had only taken 5 dvds with me, and didn't trade one in, since I didn't find Outland, but I ended up buying two 99 cent clearance dvds at a pawn shop just so I could hock them for the 5 dollar coupon. So if you don't have anything you want to part with, but want to take part in the deal at Best Buy, hit up a pawn shop for their 99 cent clearance dvds if they have any.
We also had some fine dining at THE MACARONI GRILL which despite having a funny name, had some really delicious Italian cuisine. We were both very impressed.
Watching Men Of War right now, and then I'm either going to revisit The Gauntlet, or see Lockout.
The DVDs don't have to be unopened?
About to watch another movie on Youtube: the Richard Crenna starring Italian JAWS rip KILLER CROCODILE (1989). Supposedly, a pretty effective film. Hoping for something cool and a little batshit insane.
No, the whole deal is to bring in your used DVD's to get the $5 coupon (Off any Blu Ray $9.99 or higher, they have lots for $9.99). I end up just bringing stuff that I've now gotten cheap on Blu-Ray. I've heard some folks go to those Dollar Stores and buy those real cheap .25 cent DVD's and use those to get the coupons. From what I read it works. They pretty much take anything that has a UPC code outside of porno.
Got back from trip #2. Like Eko I came away with GET THE GRINGO, then also snagged the 2-disc RAGING BULL and BLACK HAWK DOWN. Under $25 total after tax.
Was hoping BB would have the LONE WOLF MCQUADE disc but I guess that's one that isn't gonna be readily available in stores.
Ahh, cool. Thx for clearing that up, Molt.
KILLER CROCODILE was so-so, but it did have a scene where the Robert Shaw stand in jumps out of the boat and stands up on the back of the croc, riding him while stabbing him over and over in the head.
And how did the young Greenpeace enviromentalist character finally kill the croc? SPOILER: by throwing a rotating boat propeller into the beast's wide open mouth causing the creature to blow up haha.
EDIT: oh, and it wasn't thread legend Richard Crenna who starred but his son!
The deal also seems to vary by each Best Buy store. Sweepers didn't have a barcode on it, but they accepted it at the second one with no questions. However, I didn't get the Blu-ray I wanted to upgrade to, since it was mismarked, and wouldn't have been really worth it for the coupon, so I kept it.
I've heard about that .25 cent dollar store scam that some folks are angling, and yeah, like Molt said, it seems to be working for them. That's good, as the BB rules seem to be pretty lax, porno aside, you can take in anything with a barcode, and you get your coupon!
I caught it after seeing the trailer and someone saying it was Mad Max before Mad Max...which is an incredibly generous way to put it. The tone of the film is what kills it, as it tries to be both a Serious Issue film while catering to every cheap B movie thrill it can think of (quiet moments juxtaposed with color tinted flashforwards with SHRILL ORGAN stings! MARAUDING VIKING BIKERS!). It might be worthy of a remake, as there's probably enough raw material here to make a decent survivalist thriller.
CRYING FREEMAN is one of my cult favorites, something in between THE KILLER and SHOWDOWN IN THE LITTLE TOKYO (the main title sequence) with the touch of a genuine movie and Asia lover, Christophe Gans. A true fan flick. Really shame it never came out in America.
PS Don "The Dragon" Wilson just liked Dolph Lundgren's Facebook page and sent him a greetings message with congrats
It didn't?
I remember a HK version of CRYING FREEMAN starring Samuel Hui. It was called DRAGON FROM RUSSIA if i recall correctly.
Oh, that's great. I really hope they get to work together one day.

The Trailer for Nicholas Cage's STOLEN is up.
http://www.nicolascagebr.com/2012/07/primeiro-trailer-de-stolen.html
Looks pretty good to me.
Arnold in a cowboy hat. I love it.

Thought i should bring back this awesome Teaser Trailer.
dude hallenbeck, That is an...Awesome poster for The Last Stand! That would probably make a good avatar as well! Unless a date changes, Schwarzenegger and Stallone open their 2013 films a mere...2 Weeks Apart!
I feel like I've been away from here on some kind of soul-seeking journey or something, but here I am again.
Anyway, it was 25 years ago yesterday...
I remember my first memories of RoboCop were along the lines of how kids my age typically discovered it: the character was ubiquitous as I was in pre-school, and given my love for Batman, I somehow suckered my late father into renting the first two movies, or maybe just the first. Anyway, ED-209 didn't sit well with me and neither did Murphy's last stand, so I spent the rest of the movie running in and out of my parents' bedroom, hoping that the badass on the cover would haul ass.
I did, however, watch the sequels too. 2 was one I remember being up at 5 in the morning watching for whatever reason, and I had to see RoboCop 3 as soon as it hit video and, for whatever reason, it ended up being my favorite one because I was 6 years old and dumb and young and RoboCop having a jetpack was so fucking awesome.
How times have changed.
Anyone else have some memories to spare?

I actually thought Al Gore and Jack Hill co-wrote the script from the way you worded it.
Didn't know it was Cornel Wilde. Sounds cool.
Quote:
Oh, Duke.
I'll be seeing the film at...the stroke of midnight...as the new day...RISES for me to see the film!
Arnold as Raylan Givens?
Would be awesome if this is official.

Yep, yet another movie I may or may not watch sometime in the future, joining the pile of what seems like at least 10,000 other movies. I do notice it's from Charles Band so I hope that is a positive rather than a negative as I don't always dig his films, but when I do...
I have been there before myself and while it's still a national chain serving up Italian food, for what it is it is great. The name does make me giggle, but then again I just saw an advertisement for something known as Hunt Brothers Pizza and the first thought which crossed my mind was, "I hope one of the brothers isn't named Michael".
I am still interested in hearing what you think about Lockout, you and your unique tastes.

I imagine that is like getting Frank Sinatra, Jr. when you were expecting Ol' Blue Eyes. Still, at least it wasn't awful.

I have never seen The Villain before but I am sure I will one of these days, even if only to giggle at seeing Arnold wear such outfits.
Speaking of him, that poster is BOSS.
I just presumed you were in Bhutan being trained by Henri Ducard... and I am excited that I will get to see the DARKNIGHTATHON in IMAX tomorrow, even if it will result in a ridiculously long day and I am sure it will be quite tiring too. But, real late tomorrow night I'll give a recap of the action and I will say if I see any geeks and dorks dress up as if they're attending a comic-con or not.
I really like that Last Stand poster too. Much, much better than the standard photoshopped hackjob that passes for a movie poster these days.
A write up on Dennis Hopper's neo-noir THE HOT SPOT:
"According to Dennis Hopper, Don Johnson arrived on The Hot Spot set, in a helicopter no less, with two bodyguards, a cook, his own make-up person, and his own hair stylist. His hair really deserved its own credit as it was absolutely perfectly messy in every scene."

I still remember seeing Hulk in the theater, and seeing this teaser attached to it. I was pumped, and then I see the movie, and while I enjoyed it, it really wasn't up to par with the Dolph one. I blame the lack of budget though, and apparently so does Hensleigh on the commentary on the dvd. Then again, Punisher: War Zone was epic, and that one probably wasn't a large budgeted film either.
Yeah, like everyone else has said, this poster is pretty awesome. If it's not official, I hope they make it official.
Like Perfect Weapon, I'll be attending the DARKKNIGHTATHON, but only in regular theater and not IMAX. I'll try to chime in whenever I can, but I'll try to post my thoughts on revisiting the first 2 films, and then finally seeing the new one later in the evening.
Right now I'm watching The Gauntlet, and the Blu-ray looks great. Elvis, you should pick it up. Last night I didn't see Lockout, rather I revisited Born To Raise Hell, and after a year since I saw it that one time, I have to say I enjoyed it a lot more this time around. Within the first 30 minutes, Seagal shoots a bunch of guys, and has at least 3 fight scenes, as well as calling guys "Bitch" in the funniest way. Still, it's a decent DTV film if you haven't seen it yet. Seagal's fights are still hilariously one sided, but whatever. If the Sensei wants to keep people thinking he's invincible into his 60's, then that's what's gonna happen.
So I'll be seeing either Lockout or Rambo III next.
If you can get past the "American Gypsies" bullshit, a pretty nice 'Random Roles' with Ralph Macchio. He talks THE OUTSIDERS, THE KARATE KID, and CROSSROADS.
http://www.avclub.com/articles/original-karate-kid-ralph-macchio-on-roles-before,82596/1/
You know when i was a kid THE KARATE KID meant more to me than ROCKY. No telling how many times I watched it. Also, the beginning of major crush on Elisabeth Shue that lasted for about a decade.
Decided on seeing Lockout. It's true that the opening chase looks like PS2 graphics, but you know what? I didn't hate that. Just reminded me of what it looked like. An opening cut scene to a videogame. Thus far the film is cool. Pearce is being a badass.
After posting the machine gun scene from Rambo yesterday, I decided to revisit Rambo last night. It's still one of the most brutal action movies I have ever seen. What's sad is the fact that the movie was tame compared to reality.

Handsome Stranger!
I loved his six-shooter that fired seven bullets, lol.
About to watch another never seen before movie on Youtube: the mid-80's MEATBALLS riff ODDBALLS. I've heard good things, hoping for a GORP-like fun surprise.
EVERYBODY WINS is notable for the offbeat, eccentric Debra Winger performance. Pauline Kael loved it.
"Debra Winger is one of the two or three finest screen actresses we've got. For a brief period in the late sixties and early seventies, moviegoers seemed willing to be guided through a movie by their intuition and imagination; if this slyly funny picture about the spread of corruption had been released then, it might have been considered a minor classic. It's satirical in an odd, halucinatory way. There are fresh, often startling scenes. The picture is a classically constructed detective story, with a mysterious woman who lures the fact-oriented man into something that ramifies in every direction and is way over his head."
It's a film I don't exactly like, but am fascinated by.
Finishing up Lockout. It's a fun film, but it's not Kiss Of The Dragon or Taken fun. It's still worth a look. Plus Snow shares a first name with a beloved Stallone character, but is explained as his Father being "A big John Wayne fan."
The only thing I didn't really like is that there wasn't a big throw down fight with the lead crazed villain who's dialogue is nearly incomprehensible due to his thick accent. That however helps him out, as his uninteligibility adds to the psychotic nature of the character.
So my final take is that I enjoyed it, it's not top tier Besson, but still a fun ride. Snow is a character I'd like to see another adventure with though. Pearce should be telling Besson he wants a sequel.
Just saw part of Guy Pearce in Lockout, which seems like the quintessential "b-movie". I'm going to finish up the rest tonight before my rental expires. Pearce is great and surprisingly very funny with some killer lines, but the movie is way too busy and undercooked. He needs to do more of these sorts roles though, because he's by far the best part of the whole thing. In a better film some of his Lockout one liners would be classics.
Fat Elvis, Well Debra Winger has been in some good films but she truly was a...Wonder in the mid 70's when she was...Drusilla/Wonder Girl, the sister to Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman!
Urban Cowboy, Mike's Murder, Legal Eagles, Black Widow, Everbody Wins and especially The Sheltering Sky. I always loved Debra Winger. :)
This goes out to you, Duke Fleed. Gentlemen... BEHOLD!!
Engineer, That was a...WONDERful clip! It was great seeing my favorite pair of...Amazons, fighting for their rights, in their satin tights and the...Red, White, and Blue! It is fitting that the clip is from the...Letterman show. LETTERMAN was a...Superhero Short from...The Electric Company! It is a shame that Warner Bros cannot figure out how to make a new Wonder Woman film or series. The one proposed by David Kelly was such a horrible concept. Lynda Carter could be Wonder Woman's mother, Debra Winger could remain her sister, and Olga Kurylenko could be...Wonder Woman. It should be set in WWII, with Nazi's as her main adversary.
duke fleed, Debra Winger is definitely up where we belong.
Reading an interview Van Damme did with a French magazine and thought I'd drop this bit by you guys (excuse my unprofessional translation, French is the closest thing I have to a second language and it's still pretty far off):

That's an interesting story. I had a weird thing happen kinda like that as a kid, when Predator and Harry And The Hendersons somehow mixed in my head and I had this very clear image of that Bigfoot ripping out a dude's spine. Kinda wished it were real.
Same here. Crush still going strong.
I actually had a hard time watching a lot of the violence in that one. When that village was getting massacred, I actually had to look away.

And lest we forget...
Hey, Marvel! How about a current-day remake of this issue with the present day Avengers? Or a Letterman cameo in THE AVENGERS 2 ?
Also... from THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS...
Letterman just crosses all forms of entertainment thresholds, doesn't he?

I hadn't heard of the movie before but knowing that both Jennifer Connolly *and* Virginia Madsen are in it and they both get topless... it shot up... my interest in it, I mean.
No idea. I thought the only Death Sentence out there was the Kevin Bacon movie from a few years ago.

The only thing I didn't really like is that there wasn't a big throw down fight with the lead crazed villain who's dialogue is nearly incomprehensible due to his thick accent. That however helps him out, as his uninteligibility adds to the psychotic nature of the character.

Unfortunately I can't agree with you there. The movie left a bad taste in my mouth and I don't even think an unrated cut viewing will change my opinion too much. I know I'd have to use the subtitles if I did watch, as I'd love to know what that A-hole was saying.
I think I'll refer to him as THE VAN DAMME from now on.
While watching Piranha 3D, I thought that Shue was quite the MILF. She still looked pretty good.
It reminds me of the hilarious thing of how in '78 there was the Marvel Team Up #74 comic book (I had to look that up; I did not know it off the top of my head) where Spiderman fought Silver Samurai... on the original Saturday Night Live! That means Belushi, Aykroyd, Curtin, Murray, and Stan Lee appears as himself. What a strange yet hilarious-sounding idea. Old John as the Samurai character dueling with the Silver Samurai... sounds tremendous.
Surprisingly the unrated cut of Lockout really seems like just a "hard" PG-13. There's no big time violence, and everything I saw in the film looks like it could pass for PG-13. The only coarse language is the "Fuck you" bit from that promo trailer we saw earlier this year.
I had that Avengers/ David Letterman crossover issue!
Best crossover/team up ever tho was the comic where Superman fought Ali.
I often do. Another tidbit, though. THE Van Damme implies that Stallone and Schwarzenegger, at one time or another, "dreamt of being Lone Wolf McQuade." This he seems to infer from Norris's standing as the oldest on the set. Made me take another glance at that post with Arnold in the cowboy hat.
Earlier in the week I saw on AICN that they're coming out with a 30th Anniversary edition of BLADE RUNNER. I didn't pick up the last box set so i might get this one. Really wanting to revisit the theatrical cut.
I respectfully disagree:
It's the Joker's shirt that makes it.
Watching Get The Gringo right now, and Melvin is back in Porter form. Between this and Lockout, Get The Gringo is the clear winner. By a mile.
Oh my god, comic book crossovers.
I had a Marvel Kool-Aid Man comic book from the early 80's years ago. Nothing on the Avengers meeting Dave or the Joker relaxing with Jerry Lewis.

Oh, well, darn. That gives me even less motivation to check it out.

What a mental image I have now, of those two guys pouring beers on themselves as a means to wake themselves up.
Dear God... I am not a Jerry Lewis fan, so I don't plan on ever trying to read the comic; of course, it's just now that I realized such a thing even happened.
In terms of crossovers, I've known for awhile about Archie meeting The Punisher (it has even been my avatar in the past) but I've recently heard about Punisher hanging out with... Eminem (sigh), X-Men vs. Star Trek, and Superman vs. Masters of the Universe.
Speaking of Dear God... tonight I finally watched Exorcist II: The Heretic. I was able to track down a copy, and *wow* what a terrible movie which at least isn't boring, mainly due to how insane it is. To quote the usually sweaty and usually in a trance Richard Burton, "Utterly horrible... and fascinating." THAT is the perfect review for the film. Talk about strange, from the music to the sets to how bizarre the plot was; I can only assume that massive amounts of drugs were involved during the production.
And yes I noticed rather easily how a what had to be 17 year old Linda Blair apparently did not wear a bra at all during filming.
That cool loud shirt that Burton wears towards the end in Exorcist II is something I'd like to add to my wardrobe. I've always liked the film, but that's also because I wasn't expecting it to be some amazing masterpiece that would be a worthy sequel. It's an entertaining movie, and has a lot of hilarious stuff in it. Mostly from those trance scenes.
Further on in Get The Gringo, and the movie continues to be lots of fun. It would have PLAYED down here had it been released in the theater. Check it out gents.
