It's odd. There still has been no official announcement that FURY ROAD is happening. Cool cars though.

I don't think they did as far as I know, that's the first time I hear this Aspergers theory.

It's not my intention to say that any such condition of this kind would lessen the drama or the accomplishments of the character (or Gunner Jensen's possible autism in the Expendables films).  As a writer, myself, I just wonder how much of it is actually the intention of the filmmakers and how much is people reading deeper into the material than the makers intended.  It's a tough line to walk.  If something's explained too much, there's little-to-no mystery.  And if there's not enough explanatory detail and too much is left to the imagination, you get Prometheus.

Regardless of any conditions, both the Driver and Gunner Jensen are two of my favorite action characters of the last five years.  They kick much ass, and if they are in fact doing so while working through autism or aspergers then more power to them.  :)

Right!

Wasn't there a pic of Charlize Theron bald for her role? So i am definitely sure FURY ROAD is happening.

I notice that there haven't been that many great DTV Action this year. ASSASINATION GAMES and BAD ASS wasn't that good from what i heard. And RECOIL was rated as just okay by Vern.

Everybody seems to like EL GRINGO and GET THE GRINGO.

Really liked GET THE GRINGO. Haven't seen EL GRINGO yet.

Saw DRAGON EYES recently and it wasn't that bad. Peter Weller hamming it up and Van Damme imparts some Martial Arts philosophy to Cung Le.

I wish I was joking but I am not. Sigh... and I actually like some of her songs, which is more than I can say about most Top 40 music the past few years. Yet her God-awful wannabe "controversial" persona is a real turn-off and this news isn't a positive to me.

I did just see the news was posted on the main page as I was typing this, but I just had to mention this here as soon as I could.

There seem to be too many time-wasters at this party.  We get rid of one piece of crap (Lohan) and get a bigger one.

Let's hope it's just for a scene or two and then she gets blown by Machete.

Umm, do you mean 'blown away' by Machete??

If you only get only one DVD/Blu this week... one of the great 50's sci-fi/ horror films

http://www.avclub.com/articles/invasion-of-the-body-snatchers-bluray,82912/

I like the original ending shown on TV when I was a kid, with Kevin McCarthy running in the highway frantically screaming to passing motorists "They're here already! You're next! You're next!"; hysterical as truckloads of pods pass him by. There was no reassuring epilogue with him persuading the authorities into action, it ended at a dark/paranoid place that was terrifying.

Yeesh.  I'm so angry by this stunt casting, that I turned all Sandra Bullock from Demolition Man.

I meant 'blown up'.  Thanks for pointing this out.

It's not like I haven't seen season 6, all of this is a revisit anyway. One of the aspects I love about the show is that certain characters who were just back ground fodder end up having major arcs, or at least figure heavily in one episode. Plus PETER CRISS has a 2 episode arc where he pretends to be a witness to a crime, and then gets stabbed in the neck (and survives) with a pencil by a crazy THOMAS G. "WINDOWS" WAITES.

I'll admit it; I have never seen an episode of Oz, but I've heard a whole lot about it, such as how explicit it is. I had no idea the former KISS drummer was in it, and that he got attacked by another famous musician.

Why didn't that lady give up her handbag? That was some grip.

Ha, yeah I did think she had quite the hold on that handbag. That's in the opening of the film where she gets dragged and then meets a nasty end.

Yes. I talked about that when I saw it a matter of weeks ago. I wildly enjoyed it. I hope you liked it as much as I did. You have to love a flamboyantly gay older gangster, along with him saying that Jack Palance's character scares him so much "it makes my asshole twitch". Not to mention, a glorious t-shirt of a cat on a sailboat that somehow is supposed to represent Brazil.

I'm digging it so far. Hunter was right too. The lead slimeball does look like a beefier Bruce Campbell with some righteous sideburns and mustache.

Oh yes, that film is also great, as I commented on not too long ago. It's awesome, especially that bitchin' long chase scene involving beefy Bruce Campbell going after the guy who did that horrible thing to his family. I am glad you enjoyed it.

Yeah, that's what I heard was the reason for her not having any hair. But hey I am happy that it appears to finally be filming, considering they've been trying to make it for most of the years that I've been alive, and I'm in my early 30's now.

Ha. A nice slip of the tongue... and speaking of that, I heard that Machete has some killer cunnilingus...

Concerning his movies that have made Blu-Ray, all of them I know about have been totally bare-bones with basically no special features. Lazy I know but that happens more often than it should.

Anyhow, tonight I plan on going out and about so I will be having a good time, and may have interesting things to write about once I get back home.

Speaking of musicians on OZ, DAVID JOHANSEN is on there for 2 episodes as well, and he has the most hilarious death on the show. 2 characters (one of them is Christopher Meloni!) are vying for the chance to kill him, and he has a heart attack. Both characters look at him, then at each other and say "Later." and just walk away!

I actually ended up rooting for the beefy Bruce Campbell guy after that horrible thing happened. It was a good twist around, as I'd been all for Henry Silva and Woody Strode beforehand.

Went out earlier to check my mailbox and to go get my weekly allotment of comic books. My mailbox yielded some goodies in the way of Blu-rays for The Last Days Of Disco, Kiss Me Deadly, Humanoids From The Deep, and Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. As well as a new copy of the dvd of The Beast Within. So yeah, like I said on facebook, my weekend is set. Right now I'm watching the Netflix disc I got in the mail. JAMES WOODS IS...COP!

Which INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS did you get?

Glad to see I'm not the only one embracing the Italian crime films on Netflix. Sleazier and grimier than what we usually go for, I'd say, but they're just as awesome.

I watched Live Like a Cop, Die Like a Man and enjoyed the shit out of it. Thrilling, violent, and very homoerotic, with a hilarious toy boat explosion at the end. But it's got nothing on Beast with a Gun, which I watched last night. Helmut Berger, who would make Klaus Kinski shit a brick in a sharing contest, plays a con who breaks out of jail with his cronies and immediately gets down to the raping and robbing again...except he rapes the wrong woman, who's just part of a series of steps that a vengeful cop who looks like North Dallas Forty-era Nick Nolte is taking to get him back behind bars. I felt like the former film at least allows a breather here and there, but Beast with a Gun may be my new favorite poliziotteschi film: little is put into giving its antagonist anything redeeming (Berger reminds me of a prototype for where Heath Ledger went as the Joker), and therefore it emits an aura around the film that's utterly purgatorial. HIGHLY recommended for those who haven't gotten to it already.

Amazing how unafraid these films were to portray violence, misogyny, and show nudity as fearlessly as these did.

Yeah, all the Seagal Blu's seem to be lacking features. I just grabbed the Under Siege double feature earlier, so now I've got the whole golden age era in hi-def (not counting the dismal Hard to Kill).

Heads up: Amazon is matching Best Buy's price for the new and gorgeous-looking Total Recall Blu-ray hitting next week. Better off holding off on the shitty new one and revisiting this one. Hopefully Amazon matches Outland too.

Speaking of which, MGM is unveiling some Van Damme Blu's for October 2: Cyborg, Death Warrant, and Double Impact are all on the way. Good to see this all hitting, now give us Leviathan!

The low-profile but high-laughs thread favorite Hans Gruber's EYE CONDITION! and I are about to dig into Back in Action. Wish us luck.

After that: Death Warrant or Battle Beyond the Stars?

It's even worse than it looks.  Watching it MST3K-style, preferably with many beers, is the only way to make it entertaining.  Here's a link.  Save some money.

It's like FLASH GORDON without the humor, the budget or the self-awareness.  On the plus side, you get Munro in lots of skimpy outfits, light sabers, David Hasselhoff, a robot with a cowboy accent and an eternally-high Christopher Plummer.

The original film. I've got the first dvd release of the remake, as well as the 2 disc edition, so I don't see myself upgrading that one on Blu-ray, but the old dvd for the original film looks really shitty, and even though it's 20 bucks, it's well worth it for some classic 50's sci-fi paranoia.

Glad you enjoyed Beast With A Gun, because NOBODY BETRAYS NANNI VITALI!

First I'm hearing that Cyborg is hitting Blu-ray. I'm definitely upgrading my non-anamorphic dvd.

Earlier, my friend Rolando and I went back to that town we went to last week, because he had ordered Cloud Atlas from the nearby Barnes And Noble, since he heard the movie is based on a book, and I did all I could to keep myself from buying more Criterion films......,but I was weak. I sprung for 2 more films. Diabolique, and my first Godard film, Breathless. Also traded in 3 dvds at Best Buy and got Dead Snow, Excalibur, and Interview With A Vampire.

Sweet. A few years ago I got to see Jaws on the big screen. As awesome as it was, I wish I could have seen it the way you did.

There isn't too much to say from my time out on the town tonight at that one nightclub. It was the usual good time there. However, there was one moment where a hot Filipino-looking girl did a bodyshot off the body of a dude who was celebrating his birthday; he was hairy so various Ted jokes were made. That reference was lost on me but if you've seen it I am sure you will laugh.

Before I left for the club and then at the club I saw parts of the Olympics opening ceremonies. I didn't listen to any of the audio of the event except for a few minutes; just watching the images, much of it (aside from the normal entrance of all the nations) just looked real bizarre to me, as if I was on a drug trip. And, it was directed by Danny Boyle! Such Brits as Kenneth Branagh and Mr. Bean appeared. Oh, and there's Daniel Craig as Bond appearing in a sketch with Queen Elizabeth II (!) where they leave Buckingham Palace and they jump out of a helicopter to the outside of the stadium. It was hilarious how obvious it wasn't the Queen that actually jumped out of the helicopter. It was quite surreal.

Get the Gringo was theatrical here. But I really, really, dug Dragon Eyes.

Sam Worthington, Terrence Howard and Dawn Olivieri are joining Arnold Schwarzenegger in Breacher. Formerly known as Ten, it's about a squad of ten DEA agents who make off with a cartels drug money and get hunted down by a lone assassin.

Howard and Olivieri are playing a couple who plan on double crossing Arnold and taking all the money. I'm sure they wont be killed horribly after an epic one liner.

Just came back from a second viewing of The Dark Knight Rises.

I think Bane is one of the best villians to come out from the past 10 years. His voice takes a little getting used to but he has a massive Darth Vader type presence about him. Anne Hathway's Selina Kyle is deadly and awesome as well. She did an excellent job of embodying the DC version of Catwoman.

I am really glad that TDKR exists. It's nice to know that in a world of mediocre films. Once in a while, a film comes along that passes all our expectations and you have a genuinely good time as well. I am so thankful for that.

I agree.  Nolan does seem to have a handle of having it both ways, entertaining and substantial.  This is not to say that the film (or any of his for that matter) is perfect, but are far more engaging than most blockbusters.

I am really curious to see what he does now he has finished with Batman.

I saw this in a digital screening.  I'll never tire of watching it. It's my favourite Spielberg, back when he was a great film-maker.  It looks great and that underwater shot at the beginning (right before the victim gets attacked), is obscene with how much you can see now.

Howard and Olivieri are playing a couple who plan on double crossing Arnold and taking all the money. I'm sure they wont be killed horribly after an epic one liner.

Interesting. Hopefully the film turns out well. And I hadn't heard of Ms. Olivieri but after looking her up, not too shabby.

Well, that is quite unfortunate... even if I've only seen it barely reported; I am not 100% sure it's true, in other words. I'll wait until I see some more reliable sites report the news, just to be on the safe side. In any case, of course I remember him most from the likes of Predator, Bulletproof, Race With The Devil, and Lone Wolf McQuade.

I had quite the day today. I found out from elsewhere that this weekend there's an event in Orlando known as GameWarp. It's the second year it's taking place. You pay 20 bucks for a wrist band and for the rest of the day you can play all the arcade machines and pinball tables you want. There is a big variety of both. In the former there's mainly pretty old machines, like Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition and games of that ilk. I'd rather talk about all the pinball machines, though. There are quite a few that will interest those here; for example, '89 Batman. I did not see Jack Palance but Robert Wuhl WAS on the machine. I laughed. There was also a guy who looked like a greasy long-haired Jerry Seinfeld. I am not sure who he was.

There was also Jurassic Park, Tron (after Tron: Legacy), Star Trek: The Next Generation, Dr. Who, Lethal Weapon 3, and even Last Action Hero. For the most part those tables were fun. Other ones included The Twilight Zone, Bram Stoker's Dracula, and wacky ones like Hercules, which is a giant table that uses a giant ping pong ball instead of a small steel ball. The favorite of me and others include BAD CATS, which is a cat-themed table that isn't so great but is hilarious because the back glass has such odd images as a woman with a broom hitting a cat, another cat being cooked on a grill, and a third cat grilling a mouse with a candle! Anyhow, it was nice to play games that included people on the board/back glass as Patrick Stewart, Robert Prosky, Jeff Goldblum, and Wayne Knight.

Sad to say, there was a virtual pinball table there that malfunctioned often so I wasn't able to play it at all. As it was virtual there were over 100 (!) games on it and the ones I saw included Demolition Man, Judge Dredd, and believe it or not, CONGO. Yes, they made a table based on that film. I am *pissed* I wasn't able to play it as I know at least a few people would want to hear those details.

One nice thing about going there is getting to meet up with some people from a podcast; it was my first time meeting any of them and they proved to be pretty cool. I was even invited out to dinner with them. It was at a national chain restaurant as it was close by the event. The dinner went by fine; there was discussion of both Robert Loggia *and* Vinnie Jones, so of course things went fine.

The day was pretty long but I still had a real good time.

Not really a horror film at all. That being said, hold onto your butt.

I thought this was interesting:

"For the role of Jack, Hill wanted someone who was “representative of the tradition of the American West – taciturn, stoical, enduring,” and had Nolte watch a lot of films starring Gary Cooper, Randolph Scott and John Wayne. Nolte wanted to recapture “the demeanor of how those ‘40s characters carried themselves – how they dressed and carried their guns.”

And this was a perfect point of comparison:

"In a precursor to his grinning baddie in Tombstone (1993), Powers Boothe plays a genial antagonist in Extreme Prejudice while also sporting a dapper white suit. Cash sees the drug trade as simply giving the people what they want. Early on, Boothe has a nice scene with Nolte where their two characters meet and Jack warns Cash that if he crosses the border into the U.S. he will bust him and his operation. Unfazed and as cool as they come, Cash says to his old friend, “I got a feeling the next time we run into each other we’re gonna have a killing. Just a feeling.” Think of this scene as the pulpy precursor to the legendary diner scene in Heat (1995) between Robert De Niro and Al Pacino only with two legendary character actors instead. The message in both scenes is the same: the next time Cash and Jack meet, one of them is not going to survive the encounter. For any fan of these two actors, this scene is a lot of fun to watch as these forces of nature square off against each other with Cash being gregarious yet still threatening and Jack all stoic determination."

I used to play the Last Action Hero pinball machine at the Fresno airport whenever I'd be waiting to come back to Texas after visiting my Grandpa and family who lived over there in California. It's probably not there anymore, and I haven't been to California since 2008, but it was a really fun game.

I'd LOVE to be able to play the Batman '89 game.

My afternoon and even has been pretty productive. Bought some shelves and shelve material to start putting them up on my walls and put up my movies I have. Going to buy some more, but I wanted at least one set so I could know what I'm working with. Then I made some dinner at home, and watched a monster double feature of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, and Humanoids From The Deep. Also cleaned up my game room, as it's a mess. Right now I'm with my buddy Rolando, and we're getting "refined" by watching the Criterion Blu-ray of Breathless with Jean-Paul "The Professional" Belmondo in the lead.

My Cable Listing says that The Matrix will be showing next weekend.

Has anyone tried watched the entire trilogy (The Matrix, Matrix Reloaded, Matrix Revolutions) in a row? There's some interesting stuff in Reloaded and i am sure the first installment still holds up even today.

I actually prefer the Jim McBride/ Richard Gere BREATHLESS.

I'll just stick with the first Matrix movie. That's the only one worth a damn.

Yes, I have. A few times actually as I'm a huge fan of the entire trilogy. Most recently I watched them post surgery, while very high on codeine. Woah indeed.

I think Reloaded was where Laurence Fishburn started eating too many Big Macs.

There's a discussion on the TOTAL RECALL remake thread on how good the original is. Second tier Arnold. Agreed?

No.  Top tier.  With fucking cherries and shit.
